Has anyone ever had the rug pulled out from under them?

Recommended Posts

SO the waiting game is over and I’ve finally committed to a program, yay! Has the anxiety stopped, no! I’m super nervous for whatever reason that my school is going to be like oh jk, you’re not *actually accepted!

Am am I just being irrational? I have all of the prereqs required and even did post bacc here, just nervous that I made the wrong choice for whatever reason. I just want to be happy and excited!

I have been having this exact experience. I keep thinking they must have confused me with someone else or that they're going to pull out some minor requirement I missed. I don't know how to fight these feelings other than to make myself a cocoa and tell myself I'm being silly.

I hope it will all start to feel more real soon.

I actually have, but not after an initial acceptance. Last year I was accepted at a program and I asked for a deferment. They accepted this and invited me back for Fall 2019 or Spring 2020. I never heard anything from them, so I sent an email asking about my place in their program. They told me the offer was no longer available to me.

If you haven't heard of/looked into Imposter Syndrome yet, I suggest you do so. I think most (if not all) people entering a grad program feel this way to some degree (thinking you're not good enough, why did you pick this field, everyone else in your program is so much smarter than you, etc). I think even once you graduate you might feel this for the first few years.

Fight through it and remind yourself that you got chosen for a reason!

Wow, that's wild! Did you have their acceptance of deferment from them in writing?

It was actually through phone call,  however I did recieve information through voicemail. I did not want to argue for my spot at a place that no longer wanted me though. It also turned me off from the school. Although my applications were limited this year due to counting on this deferment I still got in to 2/3 schools I applied to so it turned out okay.

Thank you! Definitely some of that going on here. I will continue to fight through it!

lmao I am so glad that I'm not the only one who is thinking like this! I accepted my offer like 2 weeks ago and I got an email back saying like "okay cool thx for letting us know" but I'm still so nervous something will happen and they'll just be like "so, about that offer..."

We are being too paranoid lol. We just need to calm down. They can't really do that because 1. they had plenty of time to choose those who they wanted to accept and 2. they know we probably rejected other offers. it would crazy if they actually did that

I would be turned off as well. I'm glad everything worked out in your favor this application season!
