For the person who posted on the results page that they got an interview invite for UMich for their Communication program, is this for their Comm and Media program? If so, could you please DM me your POI? Thanks and congrats!

I just saw a posting that someone got an invitation to Northwestern MTS visit day. Congrats! Have any other international students been invited to this event?

I was invited to Screen Cultures program last week. Different program, same Comm school. And looks like they do same days for the school

Thank you for your reply. Can I ask if you are a domestic applicant or international applicant?

They are not the same comm school. There is no comm school at umich.

Regarding Northwestern, did you apply to the MTS PhD program? And did you receive a screening call through skype or phone call?

Umich has a department of communication and media, their Ph.D. in Communication & Media program is on their website. The program has two strengths: " an interdisciplinary program with two major strengths: the Social Scientific Analysis of Mass Media Effects and the humanities-based study of Media, Culture and Society." https://lsa.umich.edu/comm/graduates/prospective-students/program-overview.html

I applied to MTS and I got a call from the person whose name I wrote down. It was a screening call over the phone and didn't last super long. Did you get the same?

Welcome to the Stanford rejection party! Yes, feel painful for a sec. I am wondering whether someone in our thread gets admitted.

Do their letters go out in waves?

I was also wondering about this! I have not received neither an acceptance nor rejection letter from Stanford.

I haven't got any calls yet. I'm still hoping for an interview?

Hello all. Decided to jump in on this thread. First round of applying to PhD programs. I've applied to the following schools, and in general, all are media and technology oriented communication tracks.

1. BGSU

2. Purdue

3. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

4. Mizzou

So far, I have been accepted at BGSU, but have not heard anything about funding yet. I will check back in if I see any further results. Congrats to all who have received any type of acceptance, and a big good luck to those still waiting around anxiously.

Those are not different programs. It is one department that brings in diverse cohorts. I am not trying to be pedantic, but clarity is important here. Screen Cultures is a completely different department from the communications and media department. Same college, but it is like economics and statistics departments. Totally different.

@DuhGoobz I got into BGSU also. Got my funding letter 2 days after acceptance. Tuition, out-of-state waiver, and GA spot at 13,500. Not much to live on, but looking at apartments online it seems doable. BGSU's PhD GA range is 12k-14k according to the salary tables in the handbook. Waiting to see what happens over the next two week with the other schools I applied to.

Congrats! And oof. I got my acceptance letter on the 8th of this month. Haven't received any word about funding. Guess I shouldn't stress horribly as I haven't received other decisions yet. Though, I am curious to know haha.

Since people are starting to hear back about acceptances and funding (congrats!), I want to point everyone towards the PhD Stipends database. Submitting your offers will help prospective applicants recognize just how little pay we're breaking our backs for, and help us estimate what''s expected for our field and chosen locale.

@DuhGoobz If it makes you feel any better, you were accepted before me! I didn't get my acceptance letter until the 20th.

You're currently residing in the US right? I wonder if they will invite international students located from outside the US to visit campus. I know some schools do, but oh well :o

Yes, I am. As I know, USC CMS program invites students living outside the US too. (Bc they've got that money.) I'm not sure about Northwestern though. I know sometimes they will do skype for those who could not make it to the campus visit -- if it is an interview.

Hi – I'm an international student living outside the U.S. I was invited to Illinois' Welcome Weekend, but they will only cover up to $500 of my flight. I've still haven't made up my mind if that's a good enough deal.
