justwaitin:) Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 Good afternoon (depending on your time zone)! How are you all doing? How are you occupying yourself during the agonizing wait for results? Tips for others? What's something positive and awesome that has happened to you this week? MadisonMachelle, futurespeechieinprogress and sleepyslp2be 3

How are you occupying yourself during the agonizing wait for results? Tips for others? What's something positive and awesome that has happened to you this week? Hi there! I'm doing okay, very nervous as I only applied to one school (kind of crazy, I know!) and am waiting to hear back as well. I work full time so that's eaten up a lot of "worry time" but I'm definitely still refreshing email obsessively. I'm mostly trying to build my confidence up as I wait and pat myself on the back for getting this far! I would recommend for anyone else in the same boat to take this time to recognize all the work you've done to get where you are, and to be proud of that regardless of the outcome. Something positive that happened to me this week was getting to see my best friend who lives a couple hours away for her birthday! I hope everyone else is doing well and I would love to hear what the process is looking like for all of you! P.S. For anyone wondering, the lone school I applied to is Emerson College for the Speech@Emerson online May 2020 cohort. Fingers crossed big time zach2sawc 1

It was a risk, but a great payoff to avoid spending $1000 on applications for schools he would never actually end up attending. futurespeechieinprogress 1

I just love Emerson's program and have had such a great experience with my admissions counselor that I can't see myself going anywhere else. I hope you get some good news soon!
wodin Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Very stressed here! I was doing 100% fine all through the application season from the Fall onwards...then as soon as all those 1/15 deadlines hit I started falling apart. Completing the actual applications wasn't stressful at all for me....the waiting is going to kill me though!
MassSLPwannabe Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 feeling very stressed.. especially since some of my applications arent marked as complete . I have two schools that I have tried to call/ email and have not heard back. I sent my GRE scores over 6 weeks ago and they still say not received.. so not sure my application is even getting looked at.. very stressed.

I really hoped I'd ship off the applications and be able to relax, but not even close! This semester I'm not taking any classes, just working and beginning a part-time internship, so I think I'm going to complete my level 1 sommelier training, because it's a personal goal and I have lots of time to study right now. I won't have the time once grad school starts, so why not? It'll also be a great distraction while I wait for decisions to roll out. Edited January 17, 2020 by snaileywhaley

Wow, I don't even know what to say. I'm so sorry.
sjewell Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 @snaileywhaley did you say you want to do your level one sommelier course? I've passed both levels one and two through the Court of Master Sommeliers and worked as a sommelier for the past few years, now waiting to hear back from grad schools for SLP. I also am interviewing at Midwestern next week...Best of luck! It will definitely keep your mind off waiting.
futurespeechpath1 Posted January 22, 2020 Posted January 22, 2020 I did get an intent to admit letter from Lewis! They're still in the accreditation process and won't hear back from CAA till end of February/Early March. All you need is 1! Had my interview at Midwestern last week and praying that went well. Trying not to stress too much now, you can only control what you can after all

And yes, I figured since I'm not taking any classes this semester, I have plenty of time to study personal interests and once graduate school starts, I will not have the spare time to study wine. It'll be a great way to keep me busy for sure!

LMcLaughlin Posted January 24, 2020 Posted January 24, 2020 Hi Everyone! I'm so happy I found this site and forum to talk with others who are going through the same process. I am finally applying for grad school after a longer than expected break ( almost 9 years ?). I have an all day interview tomorrow at Moravian and I am quite nervous. I am proud to have made it this far and I hope I don't completely bomb. I would love any advice from those who have interviewed. I'm not sure what to expect.
amanda_rensch Posted January 28, 2020 Posted January 28, 2020 Hello everyone! I'm honestly so happy I found this site. The amount of support us future speech pathologists and audiologists give each-other is astounding! One thing I am super stressed about is decision declines. Waiting for decisions to be sent out is almost worse than all the personal statements I had to write to be honest?I keep checking my email inboxes and spam folders like multiple times a day, it's ridiculous. I am kind of a control freak, I want to control every aspect of my life. One thing I have had to realize is that, this process, is COMPLETELY out of my control and in the hands of the admissions committees. I cannot control if I get in or not. I cannot control if the applicant before me has a 2.5 GPA and is a non-major or someone who got a nearly perfect GRE score and has volunteered with every organization possible. Realizing that many of these processes and considerations are out of our hands, makes the waiting process a lot easier. All you can do is your very best! Admissions processes are almost like a game, you never know what they're looking for in a certain class. Be alright with where you are and know that you did all you could! Good luck everyone!!?
arkay Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 I am waiting! Trying not to be anxious, but I'm anxious because I don't know what I should be receiving or when (in terms of interviews, rejections, acceptances, etc.)
SpeechNerd Posted February 9, 2020 Posted February 9, 2020 I'm so nervous to start hearing back! Trying to occupy my time by reading as many books possible and distract myself from looking at my email every second of the day hahah
Pre-SLP Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) I got waitlisted at the only school I applied to and I'm so anxious! I am out-of-field so my back-up plan is to take the pre-requisites and apply again. Does anyone know how likely it is to get off a waitlist? Edited February 25, 2020 by Pre-SLP

At one of the schools I interviewed with, the four grad students who led the tour told us every single one of them was originally waitlisted. My good friend applied to one school – was waitlisted – then received an acceptance a month or so later. It happens all the time! Don't lose hope! Pre-SLP 1

slptobe! Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) Hi everyone! Just wanted to pop in to say that anything can happen in regards to waitlists! I was nervous after being waitlisted to 5 places, but I ended up getting off the waitlist at 3 of them fairly quick! And the program I am in now, a lot of people got in off the waitlist. So don't lose hope! Try to just not think about it until you have more information, I know that sounds impossible. I distracted myself! Also if anyone has questions, don't be afraid to PM me! Good luck to everyone!! Edited February 25, 2020 by slptobe!

No problem! Honestly, the way I think of it is: Students are advised to apply to as many schools as possible (sometimes 8-16!), but they can only pick one. They decide against schools for so many reasons, location, price, etc. For every school we are accepted to that we turn down, that's an acceptance for someone else on the waitlist. Stay patient! MadisonMachelle Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Unfortunately I had to withdraw my application from Chapman University. I started getting really anxious about attending the interview mainly because I couldn't see myself ever paying $70,000 for a program when there's schools that I like more that are less than 1/3 the cost. Feeling a little bummed because I felt that I had a really good shot of getting in. I also turned down NYU and Emerson because of financial costs too. How is it possible that people actually spend $100k (tuition+cost of living) on a graduate program when it's known that companies don't care where you went as long as you have your CCC's? squirrel_threats and speechlang 2

Honestly, I have no idea. I only applied to two private schools, Marquette, and Northwestern. I don't think I will get in at Northwestern, but I think I have a decent shot at Marquette and I really liked the program. The graduate coordinator is doing research that aligns with my areas of interest, so I applied for a GA position. I think the only way I would go to Marquette is if I had some sort of assistantship or other aid.
justwaitin:) Posted February 26, 2020 Author Posted February 26, 2020 Yeah, cost of tuition is at the front of my mind. Originally, I was most concerned with what I felt was the "best" education, but now I just keep thinking "a degree is a degree" and if I could pay off my student debt within a few years, that is so much more appealing then paying loans back for the next 30 years of my life. Of course it would be cool to go to a school in Los Angeles or New York but you know what's cooler? Being debt free in 10 years or less! Try not to feel too bummed because your future self with thank you when you don't owe 2x as much. MadisonMachelle 1
