So... who has committed to a school?! Let’s hear! Congrats to everyone in advance!

I committed to Ohio University! Graduating from OU in May and so glad that I get to stay with the help of an assistantship and scholarship!! Good luck to everyone on making your final decisions! ?

Question for everyone who is comfortable answering:

What makes you interested in being an audiologist? I’m interested in hearing all of the different answers! We all have this in common :)

I did my undergrad in speech and Language and fell in love with the audiology classes we had to take. Then I did a post grad in Communicative Disorders and was placed on externship in 2 big hospitals in Toronto where I got to see Cochlear implant surgeries and watch them subsequently hear for the first time in follow up visits. I was HOOKED!!! I’ve been working in a hearing clinic for 2 years now doing audiometric testing for ENTs and applied to a Canadian program last year which is really competitive and screens at grades before even looking at experience, and I was rejected. There are only 3 English programs in all of Canada so it’s very tough to get in. I’m just ready to become a audiologist now so I’m excited to have the opportunity to go to a US program!

I love this!!! You said you chose Indiana, right? How’d you choose (if that’s not too personal to ask)?

Yes! Not too personal! It’s an accelerated program, since I have a lot of experience and I’m 27, I’m ready to get the show on the road! It’s also only an 8 hour drive from home, and I really connected with the person I was communicating with from the beginning of the application season. Very friendly and warm! So it just felt right. :)

One more q for everyone who committed to a school and is in the process of committing to a school: how’d you choose the school? Congrats everyone!!!!

I’m a third year AuD student and let me say making a decision for where to go can be tough, but seriously don’t make a decision based on ranking. I personally had 7 schools to choose from. I went where the money and opportunities were. I had secured funding for one year, the opportunity to switch from out of state tuition to in state, and the possibility for future funding. This program was honestly the best decision for me, it also happened to be highly ranked and at the time I thought that was important, but now I know lower ranked programs have great curriculums too and where you get your externship can really set the stage for your first job. My biggest advice when considering schools is cost should always be the first factor. Next you should look at clinical opportunities before the externship, then you should find out if they require you to go to certain externship places and if anyone helps you find places to apply to. The externship process seems far but it will be here before you know it and you won’t want to be navigating it all on your own.

I love that I can make a positive impact/help someone through technology. We have the ability to really help make a positive impact on someone's mental health. I am passionate about helping people build the skills or maintain the skills they have to have successful communication, which is important when building relationships with a significant other, at school, in the workforce, at home, etc. I love the ear anatomy and physiology especially balance/vestib and the flexibility of where an audiologist can work.

Hi Everyone.

I am debating between Pacific University, University of the Pacific, and SDSU/UCSD.

I am torn between three years and a huge debt or 4 years and less debt. I literally have no idea which program to accept and that fact that I have to make my decision like now is stressing me out. If you chose any of these programs woudl you mind sharing your reasons as to why you did?
