Cscscscs Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Aw man. Rejected by Indiana Bloomington. Kinda surprised tbh, probably because this is my first time applying and I've got blissful naivete on my side, but ah well. Still gotta hear back from Iowa, Cornell, Minnesota, and UCI, but now I'm wondering if I should've maybe been less ambitious LOL. tous le memes! LifesaBattle 1

chuey Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Do we know from past years if Iowa calls alphabetically? lol palaver and DeepSyntax 2
DeepSyntax Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 (edited) 32 minutes ago, chuey said: Do we know from past years if Iowa calls alphabetically? lol In all seriousness they do seem to spread notifications over the course of  a week or so, looking at last year’s MFA Draft, some on the 24, then the 26 and then the 28. Though I will say starting the process on a Friday afternoon is both conspicuous and little cruel. Though of course after I posted this two more people posted that they received calls. gagne Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 I emailed an admissions person I’ve reached out to at Naropa about fellowships and JKS (Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics) and they said decisions are likely coming out next week.
Yellow62 Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 (edited) From what I recall, Iowa calls folks who have received fellowships/the best funding packages first, then a mix of call/email acceptances go out, and then waitlists are notified via email or post while rejections go out exclusively via post (which can take weeks to receive after the phone calls/emails have gone out). Also, initial notifications are definitely spaced out instead of all going out in one day. Edited February 19, 2022 by Yellow62 DeepSyntax, MDP and xhou 1 2

Haha, thanks, but I meant I had 6 schools left to hear from, not that they'd all necessarily be all rejections, though I'm certainly prepped for that as well.
monstersink Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 Has anyone heard back from Idaho? I saw someone post they had heard back about poetry, but not fiction.

koechophe Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 3 hours ago, monstersink said: Also - I'm new to this: what's draft? It's a facebook group and, by the time you get into it, you'll likely have heard from the schools themselves since it usually takes several weeks. It's called MFA Draft. Users post their admissions there.Â
koechophe Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 Also, if anyone's feeling like last-minute adding a new app, McNeese's window closes on Feb 22 (So Sunday is the last day to submit). They're a good "make yourself feel better by applying to one more" because they don't charge for their first round. They actually don't require, like, anything for their first round other than basically an SOP and short sample. sb2798 1
sb2798 Posted February 19, 2022 Posted February 19, 2022 I'm trying to avoid Draft so thought I'd ask here. Has Iowa notified Poetry or just Fiction? And in previous years, do they notify both genres somewhat simultaneously or not at all? Any info would be helpful, thanks!

Usually they are notified within a week of each other, though I've seen some seasons where Poetry is a smidge later. sb2798 and Yellow62 1 1
