If the people who noted a Columbia rejection post-interview (so sorry to hear but at least your POI was kind enough to let you know early!) are on here, do you mind noting your sub-field?

Hey! That was me, my subfield was medieval Europe :)

Columbia was a bit of a long shot for me in terms of matching with POI’s. I hope you get better news soon!

Thanks so much for replying!! That's honestly so nice of your POI to email you. I hope I don't have to wait until the end of Feb for a rejection...(Modern Europe subfield). Best of luck for your other apps!

I was also medieval Europe so it must have been a subfield thing. I also didn't super match with POIs, but at least he was nice enough to let us know.

Congrats to whoever our second U Chicago POI confirmed acceptance is! Just saw the second one this morning after @automatic_peas posted theirs :)

Personally, I’m expecting not to hear anything until mid-month on my own app (U Chicago was a last-minute decision for me to reapply after last year’s rejection).

Seems like we’re seeing a lot more of the history, humanities, and social sciences starting to roll in now (lots of English, lit, political science, and anthro popping on the results listing the last few days).

Keep breathing and good luck to everyone.

the second acceptance was me! British/Atlantic subfield.

Apparently the department has voted on candidates but the dean hasn't formally approved them yet, so its totally possible that some POIs are waiting until it's official-official

Congrats!

Wondering if you, by any chance, know how many people are being admitted this year.

(Saw your post from last year. Did you go to MAPSS?)

my POI didn't say, but when I talked to him a few months ago, he said he thought they were planning on taking more than last year, but not quite to the pre-covid amount. Although that could easily have changed

I mean, if they’re taking more or as many as they did last year, that’s good news for folks who applied and are hoping to get accepted.  It may or may not be indicative of other trends, but we will have to see how that all plays out.

On the other hand, might not be so awesome given the job market, but that’s a whole additional can of worms, right?

The professor I exchanged emails with at Chicago said they had taken 11 students last year and might take a few more this year.

Adam (I assume it was Adam) is one of the better humans I've encountered in academia.

Hello! New here, international first time applicant, early modernist mostly interested in history of education, religion, and intellectual life more broadly. Anyone here prepping for a Notre Dame interview? Have you heard anything about when they’ll actually take place and who will be interviewing? I assume it’s the POI I mentioned in my SOP but who knows really! Also, I previously interviewed for a European uni and it was legitimately aggressive and just downright unpleasant, I don’t really know what to expect from an American interview? ND is my top choice so really want to prep properly, if anyone has any advice, let me know, would be much appreciated.

Thx for that info. BTW, do you know when will the department / DGS send out official decisions (especially offers)

Hi! I had an interview with Yale really early, in the first week of January (before I knew this forum existed) - it was in the African history subfield, I was interviewed very formally/intensely by three professors...they said I'd hear from them in early February but also that they're only taking 1 person in African history, lol. It seems interviews go by subfield so that might not have bearing on your application!

I also had a Yale Interview in the second week of February. Has anyone heard from them yet?

Rejected at Brown with a bunch of others today. First response of the season. Weird that they are posting rejections before any acceptances first though. Does any program do that? The first of February seems way early to send out a spat of rejections.

I just got rejected at Brown history too. Don't know if anyone got selected.

Also just got rejected by Brown! Sad face. Congratulations to all who got accepted. This is my first decision, feeling down as it was very high on my list and I spoke to three faculty members in September, who all seemed keen on my research.

Yeah this is such a blow to my self-esteem as an applicant, not even a second thought just outright no thanks.

For anyone accepted at Berkeley, have you gotten your formal funding details yet? Starting to get nervous I haven’t received anything

Has anyone else been interviewed for PhD in History at Yale? Have you heard anything from the POIs and the department yet?

I haven’t (I’m an Americanist). Because of the smaller pool of admits, I feel like it’s most likely we didn’t make the cut and the people who did just aren’t on gradcafe. I’m assuming the same is also true for Columbia.

(Sorry to be a downer, just seems unlikely we’d still be interviewed. I guess anything is possible though! ???)
