Hoping others get an update today/this week as well :). May I ask what is the first letter of your last name? Trying to figure out if they are going in alphabetical order.

Also - the official admissions letter hasn’t arrived in SGS yet, although based on past years, it takes a few days between ACORN being updated and SGS.
dardykat Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 I'm a bit confused about ACORN. I never received information to access ACORN when I applied for the MSW program at U of T. The only information I received was to access the SGS portal. Am I missing something? Lovey1115 1

I cannot see it. Is it just in academics? Mine says I am not enrolled in anything. Ddi you also get a notification up top?

I have received one rejection so far from Dalhousie, but it wasn't as upsetting as I expected it to be - seeing how competitive these programs are and how many highly experienced, smart people don't manage to get in on their first try has definitely helped save my self esteem! Also who else is applying/has applied for UBC Okanagan? I applied to UVic too- haven't seen anything on the portal other then it saying "under review by department" in the status section!

There it has 4 major headings: Today's Timetable, Profile Checklist, Academics, and Finances. If you were to be offered an acceptance, this is where it would show up. Under academics it will show that you are invited to the program you have applied to, and under finances it would show that you have the $500 fee to pay. If there is nothing there yet, you just probably haven't received an acceptance yet. Not sure how it updates for waitlists and rejections.

MSWanxietyyyy Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Hi everyone! For anyone who got accepted into UofT Advanced standing - do you have access to to application management portal as well? And if so, has the status been updated? I don’t have access to ACORN (this is my first year applying to UofT) and I was just wondering if the status changes immediately for those who are accepted or if it will take a few days. thanks

The admissions coordinator had said that decisions would be released this week and by early next week - all that to say, for folks that haven’t seen an update in SGS or if you don’t have access to ACORN yet, don’t assume the worst! They’ll take some time over the next little bit I imagine.
YouBetterSocialWerk Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 Just checked my ACORN, invited! Probably a dumb question, but how do you tell which stream you were accepted to? 😅 My ACORN just says MSW advanced standing. My SGS hasn't updated yet either

If you see nothing there yet, it’s likely because they haven’t released all the admissions offers yet - the first ones were released this morning. I’m not sure what would appear there for rejections or waitlisting though.

You can’t see the stream yet (you will in your official SGS letter) - I just assumed mine based off of how I ranked them and the fact I mentioned only one stream in my personal statement - and you are only offered admission for the stream you applied to 🙂 If you applied for two streams then it could be either though!

Great thanks!!! I applied for two streams, though I veeeerry much prefer one over the other, and it was one of the smaller ones. Can anyone share how long it took for their SGS to update after they saw their acceptance on ACORN? 😀

I was going to apply to this program this year but didn’t have a professional reference at the time. Do you mind sharing your stats and experience with me? Want to gage what successful applicants have!

Just trying to gage what applicants they accepted so far. Sure! I share them with caution as I don’t want for folks to feel discouraged or be compelled to compare - I am not sure which parts of my application may have been more heavily weighted in the decision and I am aware that my stats and level of experience may be much less (or more) than other applicants with different outcomes. I’ll be graduating with my BSW this year (so applied to Advanced Standing - I am not a 2-year applicant) and at the time of application had an 11.3 GPA on a 12.0 scale. Not sure what the specific percentage is, but it's in the A or high 80s range. In terms of experience, I did 780 hours between 2 BSW practicums that were split between a macro role in research and programming, followed by a micro practice counselling role in the VAW sector. I also had around 400 hours employed as an intake worker for a counselling agency and around 350 hours in research assistant-ships. Total hours on my CV - including non-social work related - was about 3000 hours. My references were a professor in the School of Social Work at my university who taught me in two courses and my two different BSW placement field instructors, both who are RSWs. If anyone is hearing news that was not what they were hoping or are feeling discouraged, please be gentle with yourself. A rejection or waitlist is not reflective that you are not suitable for this program or field - it is merely indicative that the admissions committee was unable to equally measure the capabilities of all their applicants. Wishing everyone well! Edited March 1, 2023 by hopeful2024 Dough123, HopeScientist, msw.helper and 4 others 6 1
