jldstudio Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Did anyone fill out the Diversity Fellowship or any part of the Fellowship section on the UC school application? I noticed it was the same for UCI and UCLA. I filled it out, used the same statement for all of the diversity fellowships. I don't expect anything from it most likely but can't hurt to submit it. I think every UC school has the same.
Fool4nine Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 just wondering how many detail shots you guys included ( probably more for the 3d people) - I had 10 different works, with 10 detail shots for those that needed them; seems like a lot but I felt like it was necessary. Just a suggestion for any future admissions for 3D works, but perhaps you could include the detail shots as an inset in a corner of the overall photograph. That way you have room for more actual works. Or you could have a composite photo that included labeled details from four areas/works on one photo.
losemygrip Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 I assumed it was a given to waive your rights on the recommendation letters, like the difference between official transcripts and unofficial transcripts. More so for the confidentiality between the letter writer and person receiving it. I wouldn't sweat it though, I'm sure it's near the bottom of the list of things they give a shit about. Yeah, I wouldn't worry about this too much. It's true that you should waive your rights to review, but probably a lot of the admissions committee won't even notice unless there is something weird about your letters.
Resendes8909 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 First app is submitted. And supposedly, all my letters of rec are sent. My essays contextualize everything I want them to (its multiple versions of one essay and its *long* - 960 words - any thoughts on the subject?) My portfolio looks slick. Yet..... Anyone else feel like you're gambling here? I'm applying to programs that accept fewer than 10 people a year. :-/ And I am applying to design programs, not fine art programs.
jldstudio Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Would they accept an official/unofficial scan until the mailed copy arrived? It seems odd to me if they wouldn't because the one school I tried to email and check on my transcripts with replied to wait until the 3rd week of Jan (week of their deadline) to inquire about receipt of materials. Oh USPS, I hope all of mine are in!
Mh31 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I feel like I screwed up- for some reason I didn't think it was a big deal if I checked 'do not waive my rights' on the recommendation section.... what do you guys think I'm in the same situation as you starling. I didn't think it was a big deal to 'waive my rights' either. Did you hear back from any of the schools you emailed regarding it?

I think that sounds about right for your work. And email the school back about the transcripts and rush mail it. They will probably won't have an issue with that.

OutWest Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Sweeeeet. Sent off all the apps, now time to wait for the circus to come to town. Good luck to all...
TheZane Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Two down, five to go. It's the home stretch! I'm enjoying SlideRoom but, only after the first upload and info dump. First round is tedious.
susanbanthony69 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 just got this email from UC Davis... Please note – we are missing all of your transcripts. I will need to have these no later than Jan 5 at 5pm. Please contact me if you have questions. so great, even if I overnighted them, they wouldn't get them in time....our USPS is broken- now I wonder about the rest of the materials I sent out---- Starling - I know they e-mailed you but have you tried contacting the graduate school to see if they just haven't been added to your file yet? There could be some wiggle room especially if the transcripts are sent to a different graduate admissions area than the rest of your materials. There's still hope, shake some of these people down for information over the phone as soon as they're open.

I'm in love with Slideroom even though I think the 10buck app fee must be QUITE the money sucker maker but after having to do tedious CD+paper apps...slideroom anyday.
jldstudio Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Slide room is cool, except for a certain school where it was $35! Very easy to use and I would have been quite happy if all schools accepted it. Good luck everyone getting apps in!

Very easy to use and I would have been quite happy if all schools accepted it. Good luck everyone getting apps in! Whaaaat?!! 35 bucks?! Good Lord! Schools must be able to set the app prices then. Interesting. I thought it was just a standard 10. I can't even think about all the money I've spent on apps without giving myself a stomach ache. Cheers to being 90% done with only a few Feb deadlines to meet!

cottonwoodgirl Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I just submitted my application before the deadline! Server didn't crash or anything on me! Anyone else feel a sense of paranoid-ish dread that somehow, something might be messed up or that some information is missing? It felt a little too easy! Now the waiting game - good luck to you all!

Anyone else feel a sense of paranoid-ish dread that somehow, something might be messed up or that some information is missing? It felt a little too easy! Now the waiting game - good luck to you all! Yes! After I submitted all of my applications and portfolios (still waiting to send a portfolio to Slade as they only accept it between Jan 21-24) I had this feeling of impending doom. I felt like, and still do feel like, I screwed them all up in some way or another. I guess I can't keep thinking about it, and just have to wait and see.
forestine Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Gah! I didn't have money for applications until Xmas so I put it all on my credit card so there'd be room to pay the fees. I did that on the 30th and my bank statement still doesn't say I have the credit. I have paid 1/4 fees(that one had an online recc form) and need to pay the one where the recommenders mail directly or they'll have these random reference letters that they won't know what to do with. Do you think it's a big deal? I can't pay some other way because I am really broke.

susanbanthony69 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 sucks Did you ever figure anything out, Starling? Gah! imbeingdead Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 Last few days to get everything finalized. Dropping off my UCLA materials in person on Monday...
michaelwebster Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 yeah I tried to reason but got this back Hi Mark, Please note: our deadline was for Jan 2 to have all of the applicant’s materials in our hands. This does not mean postmarked – so sorry. Unfortunately you are at the mercy for your undergrad school and the postal system. If it does come in Monday or Tuesday, I will try my best to load it into your application, but that is all I can do at this point. I will send you an e-mail if this is the case. Have a good weekend, Victoria Wow, they are a little strict. Its nice to know they announce they didn't get your transcript the day it was already due.
berto Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 (edited) it's all good, they were my last choice anyway - oh and I just last minute applied to SAIC sculpture, so that will add another chance in the lottery how did you apply "at the last minute" did you call up your recs and ask "hey would you mind submitting another letter why your at it?" I felt I wanted/needed to apply to some more programs but at this point its just out of desperation. Edited January 7, 2012 by Roberto
