When did you get the email for interview? How many days after? I got rejected too and am so bummed. I'm waitlisted for the MEd but am not going to allow myself to hope coz I don't want to be disappointed again. Same with the MA. Sigh..

I got an email for an interview last year about 5 days after the rejection letter arrived in my mailbox.

Admission criteria is very high for the MA Counselling program at OISE. This year (for fall 2013-2014), they had 4 spots and compeition was more fierce than it was last year. Many applicants had A+ averages and some were even professors.

I would recommend applying to the MEd as well as the MA if you're not set on doing a PhD. With an MEd in Counselling from OISE, you have a practicum placement in your 2nd year and even take more courses than the MA students (fun!). You don't write a thesis. You are able to open a private practice with an MEd degree. Bonus! MEd accepted about 30 students last year and they are a great bunch. All very diverse. Good luck getting off the waitlist!

Um.. I come here hoping for some kind of updates because I don't know if I can actually make it through the next 3 months.. I need to know now! lol.

(Was here last year. Doing my MPsy Counselling psych now but reapplied to UofT for MA and MEd with better letter and such *fingers crossed*)

Hopefully this forum gets more busy so we can keep ourselves occupied? :D

Cheers!

I don't know many other people applying to this program. Just you! At least the two of us can keep it going :P

I spoke with Todd Wills (I guess the Grad Secretary position) yesterday, and he said something to the effect of waiting until early April to hear about the status of applications. Not sure if I should start crying now, considering that's way too late to be an acceptance.

I just found this thread, and I applied to the MEd program at OISE as well! I have been searching for a thread related to this program for some time, happy I came across one. Let the waiting begin! :P

Hey guys! I wish you guys all the best in your applications. I was/ still am in the same situation. If you recall I was an active member of this thread in the year of 2012. I didn't get in in 2012 nor did I last year. I've reapplied this year but only as a backup. I've been accepted to the M.A. Clinical Program at Australia and will be commencing this February!

Hi all,

I am also waiting to hear back from OSIE for M.Ed in Counselling Psych.  It's nice to know I'm not alone in this very stressful waiting game! Good luck to all of you!

I had a minor heart attack followed by minor relief today. I received an offer from another school waaaay down my list of preferences, and they asked for a decision ASAP so I decided to contact OISE and see if they could tell me the status of my application.

I talked to Jennifer, the program assistant and liaison, and she told me that all successful applicants for the MA had already been contacted. I was heartbroken until I realized that I had contacted the liaison for DPE instead of the liaison for counselling and clinical. So I got in touch with Todd and he confirmed that no decisions will be made until mid-March at the absolute earliest. So we're all still in suspense, but at least we're not hopeless!

I have also applied for this program. I have been accepted for a MSW program but I really want this one.

I'm also waiting to hear from OISE's M.Ed for counselling psych but I always knew it was a long shot! I'm just curious as to what kinds of 'counselling-related' experiences everyone has? And for how long?

Almost lost it when I read that the successful applicants may have been contacted already!!

I was so tempted to make up an email like that and send to Todd to know where the results lie. lol. But I guess I'll wait.

Can we keep this forum alive so we can get through the next few weeks!

My counselling related experience- volunteering at the Distress Center Peel for about 6 months. Also volunteered in Ghana with orphans and at Alzheimer's society peel if that counts.

You?

I've had 3 years experience at a sexual assault centre (volunteer, volunteer program assistant and overnight crisis therapist) plus other not-quite counseling related experiences like research and working at the AccessAbility centre.

I wish I had an idea as to what kinds of experiences/GPA etc. previous students who have got in have had...It is hard to know how much weight they put on GPA vs. related experience

I think at this point, because the application is in and there is nothing we can do about it, it is best not to try to figure these things out so we can keep sane. Honestly, these things dont matter much because there have been applicants who have even been college lecturers and had other good positions that get rejected. So it's a complicated process. It's best to just do your best and wait it out.

Now waiting it out and keeping sane at the same time, that's another ball game...

My friend who was accepted into the SCCP program was accepted around end of April...

So who knows when we might hear back from OISE for the clinical/counselling programs.

Worth the wait! I really want to know!  They had really strict guidelines and no room for error.

I had applied back in 2011 for Fall 2012 and I remember only hearing back from them around beginning of April. And yes they do seem to have pretty strict guidelines and standards, I've known of people who had stellar grades/experience and did not make it :(

Btw, does anyone know how they average your final year grades? I believe its last 10 courses or last 5 credits? I know its a bit late to be worrying about this lol but I was just curious!

I heard back March 27 last year and it was dated for the 22nd or something. So I think they will go out soon!

They average your grades by taking your last 10 half credits or the equivalent that are relevant to the program and taking the average.

They do have tough standards but I think it's more about showing you have a prof or two in mind to work with and explaining your interests for the MA program. Not sure about the MEd.

I'm an applicant, but got this info from applying last year and from a student doing her PhD there now

Oh, yea I figured it'd be the last 10 half credits though I've applied for the M.Ed and not the MA - I'm an international student and I know the chances for an international student getting into a funded program are next to none :(

I am also curious as to how many students (if at all) they accept for part time studies...

Hmmmmm, someone posted in the results that they were accepted by their POI for the MA Counselling program but turned down the offer. If whoever that was would be generous enough to PM me their POI, I'd reeeeeally appreciate it.
