musicmage09 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 In my opinion, those questions are pretty specific! Well, at least compared to what I got. How long was the interview? edit: I'm the 100th poster in this thread my screen says your're the 101th poster
musicmage09 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Ok so Friday was a bust (except for the U of Chicago acceptance). Im pulling for next week to be a big one.
sweetcheese Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Hi all, I'm new here, but have been following the results board for a while. Congrats to everyone that's heard anything so far! Do we know that there were multiple Chicago acceptances yesterday?
musichistorygeek Posted February 2, 2013 Author Posted February 2, 2013 Ok so Friday was a bust (except for the U of Chicago acceptance). Im pulling for next week to be a big one. I hope so! Although, based on past years and the department/school of music websites, it looks like Cornell and McGill have their adcom meetings in February. So that may still be quite a wait...
CP3 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Yeah, super congrats to whoever got into U of Chicago!! That's my dream school. website for the humanities states that applicants will be notified in March about decisions, which seems contradictory to some of the results posted on this site recently. Oh well, I'm sure it takes longer to notify composition applicants, it must take them FOREVER to listen to everyone's recordings and read through all of the scores. We shall see
Haroun Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 my screen says your're the 101th poster OH NO!!! Well, It's the 100th not counting the very first post of the thread. Anyway, Princeton will make decisions sometime next week... I know that a lot of people here applied, so good luck to us all!
hiroshiman Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Is there a person and/or article that got you interested in musicology? What journals do you read regularly? Describe an article or essay you've read recently that provoked an emotional response from you. You are a recently hired musicology professor, and must teach three courses. What courses would you want to teach and why? I agree, those are fantastic questions. It sounds like they were trying to make sure any potential candidate has really given a lot of thought into this decision of pursuing a PhD. Good luck to you.
musicmage09 Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 From what I've seen in the past couple of years (at least in musicology), Yale (if they are doing interviews) will be sending out interview requests this coming week. Cornell has sent out acceptances early February (the 8th) and waitlisters are usually notified around Feb. 21. Princeton has been consistant with Feb. 10th at least the last two years.
purpledinosaur Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Just stopped by to say good luck, everyone! I was just thinking about how it was at this time last year that I was going through the extreme freak-out phase and checking grad cafe every 30 seconds... it seems so long ago! Just think about how at this time next year you'll be feeling the same way. If anyone has any questions about schools, I would be happy to try and answer them!

Hello, my fellow 2012 season applicant! :) Our existence and continued living should hopefully indicate to the current batch that this process will end and you will get through it!

Karajan Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 Purple Dinosaur, do you happen to know if music students in all of the disciplines are notified at the same time or is it staggered? Thanks! They don't necessarily come all at once, but we've found that, oftentimes, all the sub-disciplines are notified around the same time. In other words, it's hard to predict...
musichistorygeek Posted February 4, 2013 Author Posted February 4, 2013 Congrats to the ethno admit at Berkeley!
runn Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I see another University of Chicago musicology acceptance on the board. Congrats!
Counterpointer Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Yeah.. If I haven't heard back from Chicago so far, it's probably a no.. As I expected. My advisor went there and he had an undergrad from Berkeley and 4.0 masters from UCSB and applied to Chicago when he was 30.. They say it's possible to get into PhD programs straight from undergrad but that doesn't really happen a lot, does it?
musicmage09 Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Its exciting to see some movement on the board! I, however, have come to the conclusion that I won't start hearing back until next week. It is so nice to see musicology/ ethno/ theory/ and comp acceptances on the board!
hiroshiman Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 It is nice to see some movement, but the Stanford acceptance makes me nervous as I have not heard anything from them yet.
mochabear Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 I see another University of Chicago musicology acceptance on the board. Congrats! ...And a Stanford admit, too! Where are you seeing these things??
Karajan Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Where are you seeing these things?? The "Results Search"! http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php
Karajan Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 A friend heard positively back from Berkeley, Michigan, and Eastman for musicology
SafSam Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Hi everyone- new poster here. I applied to seven ethno programs, and so far only one has replied - CUNY - but they invited me to interview, so good news! I was wondering- to those of you who have already interviewed- what questions were you asked? When it's your turn to ask questions, what did you ask? My interview's on Feb 15, and I want to get as prepared as possible. Thanks! And congrats to those who already got acceptances!
CP3 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 A lot of musicology admits, barely any composition admits, mostly rejections for composers so far....from past posts, seems like most comp programs don't notify PhD/DMA applicants until late Feb/early March. By the way, as a side note, I took a nap today, when I awoke I had a missed call from a 400ish area code, I figured "Holy crap! Might be a school!?" Nope, Googled the number and found out it was a telemarketer from Seattle....haven't had a telemarketing call in months, I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT I GOT ONE WHILE WAITING ON SCHOOLS!!!!!" Disgusting feeling
