RubyBright Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Ha! I sent an email today (2 sentences) which I spent nearly 30 minutes proofreading. No mistakes though, I don't think. If I spent a proportionate amount of time proofreading/checking my class assignments, there wouldn't be any questions about my acceptances.

If I spent a proportionate amount of time proofreading/checking my class assignment, I would still be working on assignments from my freshman year in undergrad.
hiroshiman Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I'm now fairly convinced there was a typo in one of those two sentences. dat_nerd, RubyBright, amlobo and 4 others 7
Vincenzo Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I'm now fairly convinced there was a typo in one of those two sentences. You are my hero.

TeaGirl Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I opened my email this morning and saw "University of Maryland" as the sender. The bottom dropped out from my stomach and my heart went to 1000. Then I realized it's some irrelevant auto-emailed spam thing from the university reminding me of how I can check my account. Gaah..
zs3889 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Has anyone else sent an email to a POI that they obsessively checked for mistakes, only to find the mistake immediately after hitting send? Did you do this before you were offered acceptance or after they offered you an acceptance? What was the content that you put in in the email? I am just curious because I am planning on sending emails to my POI's in a school that I was offered an acceptance.
ay761 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Has anyone else sent an email to a POI that they obsessively checked for mistakes, only to find the mistake immediately after hitting send? yes, yes, yes. I only sent an email to one POI during this application process - at my first choice school. I typed "the the." I spell checked and re-read many times, but didn't notice the mistake. Until I pressed send..... and then it was standing out clear as day on the screen.

This year, I have vowed not to re-read any sent materials. It's not at all worth the stress. amlobo and BMO 2
TeaGirl Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I made a list of all the universities I applied to and added the dates according to the results search of when I may start hearing back. I check this list several times a day to make sure it's okay I haven't heard from them yet. That's not overdoing it, right? BMO 1

IOPsych3927 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Has anyone else sent an email to a POI that they obsessively checked for mistakes, only to find the mistake immediately after hitting send? YES! I wrote a follow up email to a POI after a phone interview... Immediately after hitting "send," I realized that I had wrote "Our chat yesterdady" in the subject line instead of "Our chat yesterday"....!!!!!! Luckily he wrote a gracious email back, but he probably thinks I'm an idiot... D'oh!

I check this list several times a day to make sure it's okay I haven't heard from them yet. That's not overdoing it, right? I've done the exact same thing (and I check daily too) - even though I know the earliest I could reasonably expect anything is around Feb. 20th. I am finally finding a few things to keep me busy, so hopefully that will make the next three weeks move faster than the past three.
RubyBright Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 And so Monday is over Love that emoticon. Perfectly conveys my feelings. Did you do this before you were offered acceptance or after they offered you an acceptance? What was the content that you put in in the email? I am just curious because I am planning on sending emails to my POI's in a school that I was offered an acceptance. After interview, before a decision. It was asking a question post-interview. D'oh! I agree with Vincenzo. I laughed pretty hard. I hope your POI has a sense of humor, because if so, I'm sure he appreciated it.
Lilac13 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 (edited) And so Monday is over I have one more Monday to go and hopefully I should hear something from one of my programs. I wish I could fast forward time!I YES! D'oh! Because of this application process, I put everything in Microsoft Word and spell check it. Even the contents of the subject line. After my interview last week, I sent a message to my POI with the subject of "Thank You" and I spell checked that too. Crazy right? Speaking of interviews, the wait for an admissions decision after being interviewed is brutal Edited January 29, 2013 by EW33
CP3 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 1 response so far, should be hearing another one by the end of the week, ugghhh, wish I would've applied to more programs!! oh well
kyjin Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Heard from a POI yesterday. Not an acceptance, but it sounds like one, just waiting for the adcom to get in touch with me (which should be this week???) Can I just have one for sure "yes you're in"?
radiomars Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I'm currently operating under the amazing notion that I will actually get to choose which program I want to go to, as it's looking like I might get into all four. This is opening up a whole new set of problems for me. The main tussle in my mind is whether to go back to my alma mater for the PhD, which is an entirely perfect program, absolutely perfect for me, but the same school and faculty I've been working with for four years. The alternative is most likely an Ivy League with a much smaller program that's more specialized, but a great stipend and benefits, and in a different geographic region which would open up a whole new area to network in. Not sure what to do.

sansao Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Can I just have one for sure "yes you're in"? Exactly. I've convinced myself fairly effectively about a few schools, but this idea of everything being up in the air doesn't seem like it's going to be enjoyable for much longer. I can say for certain that it is much more enjoyable than the feeling of all rejections, though.

If one day (like today) I decide to stay home instead of going to my office, I would end up refreshing refreshing, status page, email, result section, forum, past forum, google searching and the list goes on ! I called one of my schools today just to ask "hey according to the previous years you should start sending out your offers " when I was told Feb 15 would be the date and I was like "What the F?! I cant stand this one more day"
