Congrats on the interview!!! Good luck!

Although my apps are done, two of my schools have Jan 15 deadlines. I know I won't hear back for a while since they are still accepting applications.

I finished all but one of my apps by mid-October, but despite some friendly e-mailing with POIs before Christmas, have heard nothing official from anyone and nothing from POIs for weeks now. Cue slow build to crazy.

I can't figure out if schools that use applyyourself show status updates such as "under review" etc. I can't remember anymore...

Congrats on the interview. It seems like a LOT of people got rejected from Washington University in St. Louis this week (myself included).

Yeah... WashU must get a TON of applications.

I'm wondering the same thing. Does anyone know? Mine haven't changed, even though the deadline has passed.

As one of the "science folks" I was been fortunate enough to hear back from two programs for a PhD in Chemistry before the winter break. It's still quite early though so I am as anxious as anyone to hear back from my top choices, but there is a certain peace of mind knowing I will have some options to choose from come April.   Hang in there, you'll hear back soon!
Hey Faraday, how did you receive your acceptance from UMDCP? (congrats, btw) I'm pretty sure they're still reviewing in oceanography world. Hidykong, I got a similar question during an interview. I suspect it's a good sign. I still need to send them an email about it, though. Making that kind of decision is a little intimidating.

I received an email from a member of the admissions committee on Dec. 3rd asking for me to set up a time to talk with him on the phone so I could ask him questions about the department (it felt nice being the one conducting the interview for a change! :P). We talked on Dec. 5th and when we finished talking he said that I was unofficially accepted although they still needed my transcripts. The official offer came via email on Dec. 20th. He said my application "stood out above the rest", my GPA/GREs are not great so hopefully this means my research experience/SOPs, and I’m also a Maryland resident.

The official application deadline isn't until February so they must review things on a rolling basis, but I don't know if that is how your program works. Good luck!

I haven't heard anything. I am applying for fall programs in speech-language pathology. I have applied to 7 schools. I spoke to some schools and it seems like I may hear by mid - late march or as late as April which is awful. My applications are done and now it's a waiting game and its driving me nuts! I do have one interview on the 31st.

I've heard from two schools about my application materials, essentially stating that they are reviewing my file and needed additional clarification on certain things. The application process is disadvantageous to women with maiden and married names on differing forms, especially in programs that don't provide a form for 'alternate names.'

Anyhow, that's been the extent of it. Of course, the programs I applied to usually notify in late January to very early March. So, in reality I have another month to fret it out.

I had an unexpected phone interview with a POI (unexpected in that my field doesn't interview much). I hadn't contacted my POI before -- he reached out to me, which was nice. The interview was terrifying but great! Great in that after it ended I was very excited to continue having such conversations! I do hope I get into a program.

Congrats! That's wonderful. What school?

Congrats, I'm sooo jealous. My empty mailbox=rejection, but do this forum proud and ace it.

have a small offer from North Dakota State, but the POI is not the the guy I want to work with. I tend to reject this offer.

But till now no more news from other programs I applied for(three deadline already :Cornell, Uc Davis, U of Minnesota). Has any guy apply for plant biology/breeding from those three schools received interview yet?

Most faculty I contacted do not have funding for a Ph. D. student this year. Is really a tough year for all of us, I think.

I applied to 5 programs in my field.  I was recently contacted by a current PhD student at one to see if I had any questions about the program/application process (the application due date was a couple of weeks ago).  I've taken that as a good sign, and I'm staying optimistic since it's one of my top choices.  Social science programs seem to notify much later than the hard sciences, but I am hoping I'll hear something more concrete soon.  Best of luck to you all :)

They wouldn't take time out of their busy schedule to contact you if you didn't have a good shot, so that is good news! Good luck!

No surely not (at least I haven't)-- it sounds like a great sign :)

Thanks. It WAS a good sign as I got the acceptance email today.

Hope everything works out for you as well :)

I applied pretty early - so saw a status change (and acceptance) for Cornell in November (I managed to apply just before their admissions committee met to decide Spring admissions, so I guess I was considered in that group - although I'm applying for Fall). Also caught the first round at UPenn and was disappointed to be rejected by them!

I don't really know if it works in your favour or not to apply early - nearly all of my other applications all have set notification dates.

Great sign, I hope you took up the current student's offer to field questions. How did/is that interaction going? I imagine that current students are one of the best resources for getting a feel for the department and also which profs to connect with before app deadlines.

I have been in contact with the POI at one of my top programs throughout the past semester (we had a running dialogue going from about August - last week). I will be meeting with two of his graduate students next week at a conference. The deadline was Dec. 15 but other than my status changing to "ready for review", I haven't heard anything official.

For another program, I emailed the professor about two weeks before the Dec. 1st deadline with a question. He said he thought my research interests would fit really well with his lab and he would contact me after the deadline. However, I still haven't heard anything and my application status only says "Forwarded to department for review." He'll be at the conference next week as well and is actually in the same symposium as one of my professors...I wonder how that will turn out.

I did, and it has been great.  If anything, it has made the program even more appealing to me, since everyone I've interacted with there has been so kind, helpful, and supportive.  Also, it is nice to talk with a current student since it takes the pressure off of being so formal and careful as you would with a professor who has a stake in the admissions process.

I just got an acceptance from one of my four programs yesterday. :o  But that's the first I've heard from them, and I still haven't heard anything from the other three...
