Anyone heard anything from Rutgers yet? I'm on pins and needles waiting!

Edit - apparently grammar goes out the window when I post from my phone.

No word yet. When I had spoken with the DGS he said "some time next week." Which could be today. Or tomorrow. But hopefully it's sooner.

So Syracuse was supposed to notify me today about the status of my MA application (which was actually a PhD app that they asked me to move to the MA pool because they found it "highly competitive"). I just got an email from the DGS saying that she apologizes, but they're actually finalizing NEXT Monday. Is it appropriate for me to rip my hair out now, or later?

Anytime you want – they’d already be transporting me to the loony bin if that happened to me . . . though . . . I hate to be Miss. Brightside over here (cause it can be damn annoying), but at least it wasn't an email apologizing because they can't offer admission, right?

Haha I have a midterm in 30 minutes and I'm having a hard time focusing on anything except how angry I am that I have to wait another (already miserably long) week. I feel like it would be totally bad form to ask me to change my application, give me the wrong notification date, and then reject me, but hey... If it's going to happen to anyone, it would totally be me.

Then rip away. None of us would do any different. Sending all the hugs and zen.

Thank you Katia! I need it badly.

Someone posted over the weekend that when he/she spoke with DGS, he/she was told all decisions had been made and notifcations would go out today (can't find the exact post) - maybe that's not accurate? Ugh. All I know is I am so done with this process. :(

I'd also add that Rutgers has release acceptances over two days before so it may be a multi-day process.

That was me - to clarify, I was not told that notifications would go out today. I was just told that decisions had been made by the department, and was told about my position on the wait list. I presumed therefore that it was likely that offers would go out today, but don't take that as gospel. (Sorry to get people's hopes up...)

No problem – thanks for the clarification!! I probably just read a "maybe" and was so desperate for news that I somehow transformed it into a "definitely.”

I guess this means I just need to be patient.

Having heard back from DGS/offices at all my remaining schools (minus Purdue, because rolling admissions = no certainty), I've determined outside of Rutgers, I won't be hearing anything else for a few more weeks. Sa-weet.

mikers, sorry if I've missed this and you've previously posted about this, but when did BU say they'd make decisions? Also waiting on them and Brandeis, so in similar situ.

I don't know if I actually posted it or not. And again, this isn't definitive responses, just general information I've gotten from departments. BU said they would try to make decisions within "the next few weeks." Brandeis told me, as I asked in relation to March 15, that they would likely not have a decision out by that time. UWashington said they'd hopefully have decisions made by that time, but couldn't promise it. So, that's what I know.

Just got off the phone with the DGS at UConn. It's not going to be an easy decision for me to make.

Who else has been accepted, but is having "How can I make this work (financially)?" and "I'm not good enough" worries?

Oh, yes. I have kids and need a 3-bedroom (not shared with other bill-payers), and all of the schools I'm still considering are in areas with a higher cost of living than where I am now. I know how to live frugally, but it's still anxiety-producing.

The "I'm not good enough" worry is most profound with the school that offered me a hefty fellowship. I'm doing the [*points to self* "who?… me?"] thing, for sure. It's intimidating.

mikers86, did the DGS at UCONN call you or did you call them?

We scheduled a call to talk about the offer they made me last week in more detail.

Right? "I'm sorry… what's that?… You say there's been a swiss cake?… I can't quite hear you; we have a bad connection. BRB, cashing this fellowship check."

Now I want cake.

I still haven't heard anything. I'm obsessively checking my email. Needless to say, I'm not being very productive at work today.

I think that they notify acceptances first by phone. At least that's what the board indicates, unless you were coming off the wait list.

I think the phone call is the most terrifying. That is why I asked if UCONN randomly called you mikers, I really enjoy the time I can spend crafting that email perfectly. I'm worried I'll screw it up and they'll change their minds!

But don't spend too much time crafting that email. Make sure you at least acknowledge the offer the day it's made. (Found this out the hard way. Talk about awkward phone calls)
