Lee Kuan Yew School (LKY School), National University of Singapore (NUS)

Recommended Posts

Hi
I hope there are people on this forum who have applied for MPP at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at the National University of Singapore. I think, mostly, the written test and/or interviews are scheduled for March. Lets use this forum to stay in touch and provide updates on whether anyone has received emails/calls for the test and interview.

Thanks

Hi, i took the Math and Verbal diagnostic exams yesterday and had my interview.

I think I got half of the Math questions wrong. I read a post here saying it was Algebra and below but they must have changed it because mine included differentiation, combinations, geometry, variance, etc. I went into cold.

I think I did well on my interview but I'll need my GRE Math score (which was pretty good) to cancel out my awful diagnostic score otherwise, I am toast.

Thanks ASEANdumpling. You post is really helpful.

Even I was thinking Maths will be very basic but from what you say it seems different.

I have not heard anything from them about test/interview till now. I hope I can still expect to hear from them throughout March.

When did they inform you about the test? Are the test and interview conducted in a single session?

Good Luck.

Hi, champanK

Yes, study really hard. As you know calculators are not allowed. The numbers themselves aren't big but really need to know the tricks or formula or you can't do them.

Singapore Math is hard. The school says it is based on Grade 8 Math and they study trigonometry in grade 8 (no trig in the test though)

I work in China and had my test and interview on March 10. They said they'd been interviewing and testing people since Thursday and would go on until Tuesday.

They do the tests and then you can a long lunch break until your interview unless you are unlucky enough to get the early interview slots which start immediately after Math test.

The interview itself is kind of easy.

Thanks ASEANdumpling.

ajienaissant, how did your test go?

I was just wondering what kind of questions did they ask in the interview and what kind of specific questions were asked in maths test??

Thanks

I'll be doing the exam and interview tomorrow. Kind of stressing about it now. How many applicants took the test with you? I'm trying to gauge how many applicants were shortlisted and how many they will accept.

Um, I took it in Beijing. I think there were 20 of us and that is MPA and MPPs together (different tests but same test venue). Also, they'd been testing/interv iewing people since Thursday (I took it Sunday) and were going to continue until Tuesday.

Wow - thats a lot of applicants. There were about 10 of us for the MPA. I've written it off actually - as they were candid about the fact that my experience and background is more suited to the MPP program than the MPA. They said final results should be in by the 2nd part of April. The exam was actually okay - i wish I had more time to do the essay but it was not bad. I still find it bizarre that they ask applicants to take a math aptitude test where you need to know formulas.

Haha, the Chinese students I took it with finished in just 15 minutes. They found it so easy!

That's odd. They told me they'd get back to us by early April

I'm not surprised. :) Oh - they said April, and I assumed it will be the latter part of April like others. The sooner the better I guess.

  • 2 weeks later...

I am very unhappy with LKY and quite ready to just drop the whole application. I've pretty much settled on a school anyway.

After almost a month (I wrote to them on  March 10th), they finally reply saying that they can't find my GRE scores and one of my references. Frankly, I don't feel like asking my CEO to send it again after it has already been announced that I am leaving.

Received no interview call from NUS yet. Joyce Cuff says interviews will be held in April too and final results will be out in May. Should I assume I am rejected already or still keep hope of an interview call? It is mid-April already  :(

Any past experiences to answer my question?

Hey CreamTea,

did you hear from Ms Tan (that they will write this week) sometime recently or was this something she said around the time of tests??

She told me around April 9 that the will write to applicants this week (April 15-19) about the decisions. she wrote to me because they lost some of my documents and asked me to resubmit

ENTJ is a personality type - we like to have schedules for everything. And the uncertainty this whole process is bringing is hell on the nerves :)

I will also need to resign my post - and unfortunately, its a known fact that its easier to get in my company than to get out :)
