Congratulations to everyone that has been accepted to Hunter!

Are you planning on accepting the offer and attending for the upcoming year?

I decided to create a post for those that are in case they would like to exchange contact /social networking information with each other.

Moving to a new city, arranging funding, finding an apartment can be daunting, so I figured there should be an additional space to share info and support.

Thanks for creating this thread! Congratulations to all =) Yes, I am accepting the offer at Hunter.

I read in the MFA freak out forum that Hunter doesn't offer funding? Is this certain?

I got accepted to Hunter for Fall. I went out for the interview and it was my first time in NYC and I fell in love. The program seems to be really theory-heavy, I liked the work I saw at open studios (there seemed to be a strong queer presence), and the faculty seems great. I'm 90% sure I'll be accepting the offer. I figure there won't be funding for me, and even though the program is still expensive, I'm still worried about how I'm going to afford it. I don't have that much to pay back in loans from undergrad, but it's still a pretty notable amount. Is anyone else in a similar predicament?

I'm in a similar predicament too. Nice to hear positive things about the program. I'm an international student and I've never visited hunter. So I'm going in a bit blind.

I have heard this as well, but I recall someone in a previous year being offered a scholarship. On interview day I asked how people pay for school there and the answer was "financial aid". I was also told that many students work as art handlers.

Haha. I was told "getting in here is your scholarship."

May end up going to Hunter if these other schools don't offer aid... ehhhh.

I think a big part of it is that they have a reputation for being a highly competitive school for a very low tuition. That may be a part of the attitude the interviewer gave you. Hunter competes with schools that have 100k price tags. Even if you were to get a full ride at an expensive school, you may end up with loans for costs of living that are in the same ballpark as hunter tuition.

Plus, it seems relatively easy to get in-state tuition.

Ah. Too bad international students only qualify for out-of-state-tuition.

Hi everyone!

I got in for Spring 2016, but all of you seem to be Fall? :)  I'm kind of bummed to hear about how little funding the university seems to offer from this discussion, but I'm happy regardless because Hunter is still a really good deal. I'll be accepting the offer, so hopefully I'll see all of you in person next year?

Hey cococo! I am also accepted for Spring, but isn't sure about going yet:( I know Parsons is not listed higher on ranking, and that I was much more impressed with the open studio at Hunter. But I still couldn't yet talk myself down to accept Hunter... What would you think?

I mean Parsons is a very good school, but the best things I hear about them are usually in regard to design majors? I have some friends that go there for fashion design and graphic design and they really love it.

I honestly can't really recommend one way or another for you though! It really depends on what financial aid you get, how you felt about the studio spaces and facilities, the instructors etc. The spring vs. fall thing may be a thing to consider too?

Lol I'm totally not being helpful at all. I mean I have been excited about Hunter since I went to a thesis show of theirs last fall and went to their open studios. The vibe of the community seemed engaging and interdisciplinary, and I saw a lot of art being made that I loved. Plus, you really cannot beat the price tag associated with it for a school with studio spaces that are in downtown Manhattan.

I wish you luck in deciding though! Both are great schools, though I have had a few teachers who went to Hunter for their MFA and they always talk about how much they loved their time there.

Deep inside I know I love Hunter much much more for the kind of community it creates. Sigh. OMG I can't believe I am kind if freaking out about decision making :(

Wzhao sounds like you made your decision, you may just need to give yourself permission to follow through. But it's a big decision so you should think it over as much as you need to.

Accepted as well.  Most likely going.  I'm coming from Wyoming, and will be looking for a room mate for sure lol.  this is so exciting and scary at the same time.

also, when is the deadline to accept/decline?

I think the universal deadline is April 15th, though often schools move it forward to get you to choose thirty school. Oddly, I have not seen Hunter push deadlines for acceptance or deposits. But then again I knew I was going as soon as I got the acceptance lol.

I haven't gotten the letter via snail mail either, but it will be great to have for your own records and memories.

I am hearing rumors that we will begin to be contacted regarding funding offers and scholarships from Hunter? Has anyone else heard about this or been contacted by the school?

I haven't received a snail mail either. I thought it was taking a long time because I'm an international student.

Has anyone heard about any scholarships besides the fund posted by TEM33056? I am considering accepting and attending, and I know tuition isn't that bad but still have to pay for living expenses in NYC etc. Please post if there is another grant/scholarship available to apply for.

In case y'all are wondering, I called Financial Aid today and they said they have no idea when to expect award letters (digital or otherwise). They find out when we find out, essentially.

Hoping for it to happen soon... am most likely accepting.

I still haven't gotten my snail mail letter. I think it was sent to my parent's address and they've been having problems with missing mail lately. Can anyone tell me what the deadline to accept is? If it doesn't come in the next couple of days I'm going to contact them.
