Apparently a lot can happen when you get home from work and check your email/voicemail, because I also received a phone call from U of Arizona. The director said that he was very excited about my application and wanted to discuss their offer, which I assume means I've been accepted. Congratulations. So, about 5 spots are now left at U of New Mexico (as I heard from a professor) I'm so excited that the waiting is about to come to an end, but so worried that I won't get in!!!

Do you know if they give out admissions in waves (as in fellowship offers first, assistantship offers next, PhD acceptances first, MA acceptances afterwards, etc.)? And congratulations on the double acceptances, @HumanCylinder!! My understanding is that everything goes out right around the same time, including waitlists for PhD and MA--I'm not sure about rejections. I know of two offers that went out for rhet/writing but I'm not sure if more than that went out or if more are yet to come--I do know there was a delay of about a day between the first acceptance being issued and the second. 4 hours ago, HumanCylinder said: I actually just received an email of acceptance to U of New Mexico for English lit! I'm a currently Ph.D student in the department at UNM and I'd love to tell you all the fantastic things about the faculty, staff, grad students, and university. I'm a fairly cynical/ambivalent person about most things, but I truly can't run out of enough positive things to say about the department--coming to UNM is hands down the best choice I ever made. 2 hours ago, aGiRlCalLeDApPlE said: Congratulations. Are you a current UNM student? I'm curious to find out who you talked to--I'm attending for my Ph.D at present.

I'm not sure if they waitlist by field or not, but I can say I am pre-1800. I know a friend of mine will probably decline soon as well. Thank you so much for the info! And best of luck to you wherever you are accepting!
glueofthepoolmilkofmydeath Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Congratulations to everyone for enduring the admission season! I am writing to reach out to folks who just received offers from U of Toronto. I am a PhD student in the Department of English, and I'd be happy to answer questions concerning the department, so please do send a PM if you have questions. All best, k. Mojdeh and SoyCoffee 2

I also just received an admittance from UNM and will probably be turning it down in the next few days since I have better funding offers from other schools. Good luck!

I'm waitlisted for funding, though (what about you, @HumanCylinder?) Does anyone know how much the stipend offer would be for an MA student, and when/how they start going through the waitlist? @ArthurianChaucerian? My acceptance letter said that assistantships become available as early as April and as late as July, but does it ever happen earlier than that?

And if so, can you say whether you applied to the CSPT concentration? Thanks in advance! That was also me! (I may or may not have only applied to Canadian schools.) HumanCylinder Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 @klader, I also was informed that I am on the waitlist for a teaching assistantship (which I assume is tantamount to funding?). But, since I have a couple of automatically funded offers, I'm not sure how much I will consider UNM. @ArthurianChaucerian I actually spoke to two graduate students before I applied (one was a newly minted PhD I met at a conference who put me in touch with someone else currently in the program). They were both Modernists, which is my area. They gave me two different perspectives, so I'd be interested to hear more about your take. Can I PM you at some point?
aGiRlCalLeDApPlE Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 So, if I haven't heard from UNM till now, this means I'm rejected? Do you know if they notify acceptances first, then waitlists and rejections? Can anyone please send me the link to the online app where I can check my status?

I mean, we were told that rhet/comp people were starting to get notified 2 days ago, and here I am with an acceptance today (and put on the waitlist for funding, although my letter said I was put on "the top spot"). We're in different tracks, though, so I don't know if rhet/comp and comparative literature operate on different systems with different faculty. Could be, so then maybe they'd notify their applicants at different times? In the end, I'd say that it isn't over until it's over!! aGiRlCalLeDApPlE 1
aGiRlCalLeDApPlE Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Would it bother them if I e-mail to ask about my status? Should I just wait? I have a negative experiences with writing to ask about my status, because they always said "DENIED". Grettir 1

EmmaJava Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Funded offer from Hawaii, and now I'm drinking Hawaiian beers like a boss and a champ and marveling at the prospects of island life. Online, of course... ...I...am...IN! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! If there are any Hawaii-attending lurkers out there that would like to connect, I would be grateful. I'm considering a trip out there in early June, too, to figure out the ol' living situation, see the campus and the department, etc etc etc. Thanks in advance. EmmaJava Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Sorry, that last post was weird, I couldn't exit the box that had the text I was quoting, so I just hit submit to clear it out. Anyway, just wanted to say kia ora to the Kiwi, and congratulations and welcome to 'Murica. I spent some good time down in Dunedin and have been to Auckland as recently as May. Good luck with the international education experience, that's a really cool undertaking. EmilyJoy 1
MeNotMe Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Has anyone heard from LSU, one way or another? I find it odd not to have heard anything....unless I'm just the last to know, which I guess is possible. Thanks, and good luck to those still waiting to hear.
EmmaJava Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Just got into Purdue w/ a TA-ship! The waitlist situation is now much easier to deal with...still wouldn't mind seeing one or more of those turn into a true offer, but meanwhile this along with Hawaii really takes the edge off. Whew. Little Earthquakes Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Got into University of Oregon with funding/tuition remission. The letter didn't specify the stipend amount though. So I'm waiting to hear more. But I'm excited! LuxuryBlue 1

EmmaJava Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 Yo, HumanCylinder - any word from CU Boulder? I haven't heard a peep.
