Hi, is anyone here studies at UT comp. lit.? I need some info regarding their funding package; their website is so unclear. It does state that TAs are offered a stipend only, no tuition waiver ??? Is this true? -

They might be less selective, but they have limited to no funding for international students. Many schools in the UK offer funding for domestic and EU students only. -

Thanks for the info. UT is in fact the one and only school on my list this year that I applied to last year -

I never heard about that, why wouldn't a school allow students to reapply? I should ask about that too cuz I have one school on my list that I applied to last year. -

Would it be outdated to use biographical criticism (Although the text I'm working on was written in the mid-20th century) ? -

I got a dumb questions for you guys; if a writer's work (all of it) reflects her background and her life story, which literary term or literary theory could be applied to her work? thx... -

Proflorax, you're always there when help is needed. You know, at some point I felt that I will quit the whole thing cuz I kept checking my e-mail and telling myself 'they must have hated me'. Thank you so much and good luck in your first semester -

Should I be worried if I e-mailed a professor and I got no response? It's less than two days now but it worries me. Is it true what I read around here that someone migght really steal your research idea? I can't even imagine that. Someone please assure me cuz I'm really freaking out about the whole process. thx -
Thank you so much for asking. We're doing fine. Don't believe everything you hear or see, the media tends to exaggerate. Everyday the police arrests more terrorists and people feel safer. We all hope that the whole situation comes to an end soon so that we get to live our life as we used to, no fear

Fall 2014 applicants??

Hi there. I'm an international, so I don't really know how to judge on my GPA. What would you consider a very low score, that there would be no chance for the applicant to be accepted anywhere on earth? Is there a minimum? The last thing I need now is to worry about my GPA -
This is a good list. But I only counted on two of them: fit and reasonable admissions requirements. I had to search for schools that offer PhDs in Comp. Lit. Then I tried to narrow down this long list based on fit until I reached 9 of them only. Now, after "careful consideration" of admissions requirements, my list has only 4 schools that I'm sure I'll apply to, and an extra one that fits my interests but I don't really like. Anyway, I should advice you to apply to schools that perfectly matches your research interests. Many people would say "apply to as many schools as you can afford". But I'm convinced that I shouldn't force myself to apply to a certain school unless I'm sure I'd want to study there. I hope you're not confused by all this, cuz I already am

Fall 2014 applicants??

Questions questions... I might have to take the paper-based GRE because the testing center is really close to where I live. Has anyone tried it? Do schools accept both versions of the test, paper and computer? Any advice will be appreciated -

Thank y'all for the advice. And BunnyWantsaPhD, don't worry. Once you decided not to apply to a certain school, be sure that it's not meant for you to be there. I'm sure you'll be able to decide which schools to remove from your list. Sometimes you just have to follow your heart -
Fall 2014 applicants??

Hi, I have a question about my list of school: Is it wiser to apply to a few places that really really fit and that I think I have a good chance of getting in at lease one of them, OR; I should add some schools to my list that don't fit at all, which I think is useless since I'll end up being rejected?? Does this make sense to anyone? I can only find 4-5 schools that I really like and I hate the idea that I might regret not having applied to a few more -

danieleWrites, are you currently a student at Arkansas? If so, can I ask you a couple of questions regarding their application process? Their website is a little complicated. thx -
Hi, is it me or the UIUC Comp. Lit. homepage is really stupid? For every information that I look for, a link leads to another and I eventually get lost. Is it true that to be able to apply to their PhD program, you need to have an MA in Comp. Lit. at their dept.? I hope not, cuz every day my list of schools shrink and I had to start looking for schools again and again.

I have the same worries as you. I always feel a little vaguness in the way I state my research interests. I do understand and appreciate datatape's advice though. I hope I can apply it to my SOP, cuz talking about what one should do is way easier than doing what needs to be done. -

I still have a question about my SOP: how specific should I be regarding my research interest? I mean, do I have to mention specific authors that I intend to work on? Or should I just mention a somewhat vague general idea about what I intend to work on? It's a little difficult to balance between not being too general (so as to be unfocused) or being too specific (so as to limit yourself). Am I making any sense?
