  1. No, and try not to stress, you already have an acceptance in hand! Your discipline may be different, but the programs I applied to posted 6-10 week response times on average, and you're not even to the short end of that minimum yet. The schools I applied to with deadlines between Jan. 1 and Feb. 1 traditionally don't start notifying until the first week of March. Like I said, this may just be a humanities thing, but if I were you I would just focus on my acceptance for now and give schools another couple weeks before you reach out.
  2. Did your friend tell you if it was a MA/PhD or PhD acceptance? I have a MA from that program, so I just wanted to check for those applying. They are likely still sending out PhDs first, then PhDs contingent on MAs.
  3. I'm sorry! That wasn't a dig. I was trying to be optimistic for someone else because I don't have much optimism left for myself. I'm in the same situation with funding. Of course, none of the programs I applied to that have yet to notify applicants assure funding. Really, getting in without funding is my second biggest worry, next to not getting in at all. While it may not look like it, there is definitely a method to my madness (one that literally involved spending all summer narrowing down schools). I've already been rejected from a few really close fits, which is why I'm throwing my hat into the ring for some MA programs even though I already have a MA in American Studies. Anyway, good luck to us all.
  4. Hey, Cactus Ed, at least you have one great acceptance (and WL) already! So at least you have some good options.
  5. As they say, it's not over until it's over, but I'm one of the applicants calling the silence a rejection. Cynthia is actually the one I've been in touch with too, and she said it's a 2% acceptance rate, while the MA is 57% (which is why I asked to be considered for MA as well). Based on previous years, though, it is possible more acceptances should go out. Really, all I know is that they're starting MA candidate review today.
  6. FYI: CU Boulder's grad committee is meeting this week to review MA applications.
  7. You get more and more awesome all the time! Brown's American Studies program isn't the highest ranked, but it's the standard i used when selecting programs to apply to as far as placements, classes, profs, etc. I don't have much of a shot but, hey, a girl can dream, right? Congratulations again.
  8. Congrats on all your success, bluecheese, and thank you for being such a stand-up citizen! I know if I was WLed at one of these programs (or anywhere, really, lol) this message would make me really hopeful.
  9. I love the sentiment behind the Magic 8 Ball, but I must have the worst karma ever. I asked it about three programs and each time I got "maybe." No joke. I started asking other things just to see if it was a trick without other options. Nope. The universe must just want me to be in limbo.
  10. Congrats to all recent acceptees and WLers! Those few programs aside, why isn't anyone notifying yet?! It wouldn't be so torturous if it didn't seem like EVERY discipine other than AS started notifying already...
  11. THANK YOU! 1. I love buckeyes, but I didn't know I could make them myself! 2. You will probably love these, if you haven't tried them already: http://www.jenis.com/products/The-Buckeye-State-Pint.html http://graeters.com/buckeye.aspx I am an Ohio poser.
  12. If you don't mind, I may PM you tomorrow for more information. This could be just what I'm looking for, and I definitely have a "diverse" background.
  13. Thanks, dazed. That looks great! I was really bummed about the Pitt rejection, so I will definitely look into this. Seriously, thanks a ton!
  14. Does anyone know if there's a thread listing MA programs with admissions deadlines that have not passed (or something like Northeastern's "special student" program)?
  15. Thanks much tazo! Congratulations! Congrats to you as well, agej!
  16. I work in publishing too. This is hysterical.
  17. I'm not on this thread much because I only applied to one Communication program, UMass Amherst. It looks like someone got an acceptance lately. Was it someone on here (basically I'm just probing for information )? Anyone else applying to UMass? Congrats to the UMass acceptance and anyone else who has gotten good news!
  18. First off, I have absolutely nothing useful to contribute, but thank you to everyone for posting your stories and inspirational words. Really useful as I receive one rejection after another and another and another... Nope. However, I am from Hawaii which was basically a foreign country about 60 years ago, so I may not be the best judge. Also, question for the Ohioans: my dog is from Ohio. Is it okay for me to support Ohio State on his behalf? There may have been very cute OSU sweatpants on sale at Banner 47 recently...
  19. It's on. We need some sort of grump-off...
  20. Thank you! And, seriouslty, congrats again! Such PHENOMENAL news! This is amazing. Thank you!
  21. I would LOVE to be in that stage. It's (Not), did you just get pulled off the WL? If so, CONGRATULATIONS! That is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. This is a random, crazy thought, but while I was driving home today an idea occured to me. What if I was rejected from everywhere EXCEPT Brown? Wouldn't that be great? I picked Brown because I'm calling Boulder and Chicago as rejections and it's the only program left I applied to that assures funding. Now, I in no way think I'm going to get it (I only applied because it is my dream program), but it just crossed my mind that it would be a lovely thing to happen. So, yes, I am still, slowly losing my mind. What makes it worse is that it also occured to me on the drive home that I was coming home to a Pitt rejection in my mailbox, which I did, so part of me refuses to let go of the impossible.
  23. Officially out at UPitt. It was nice of them to tell me on the rejection letter not to bother asking why they rejected me. They were one of the schools I was going to contact for feedback. Also, I'm now glad most of these are coming via e-mail. After getting nothing last Thursday, I got literally 10 pieces of mail today (two bills), most of which were dated 2/11 and 2/12. I'm fairly certain my mailman just picks random days to not work.
