  1. Hi y'all -- just want to make a plug for Illinois State University's MFA. We're a fully funded 3 yr interdisciplinary program and have a Feb 1 deadline for applications.

I used this page extensively in 2014-2015 when I applied to ten MFA programs. The freak out forums are both wildly helpful and anxiety-inducing. I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2017 and now have a TT job at ISU. I'd be happy to answer questions about either program, or even applying to grad programs in general.

    Good luck everyone!

  2. Hi all! Just a friendly note that I spoke with my FPA this morning.

Ireland applicants: do not apply for the open-research award unless your host institution (if not listed on list of affiliates already) can pay $10,000 to the Fulbright program for you to come. Irish commission has no money. I will not be re applying this year because of this.

I was the one that made the Slack chat, just in case anyone wants verification that it was made by someone from here and not one of the trolls that were vandalizing the spreadsheet.

Edit: An invitation link, in case ewhipple's link doesn't work for non-members,

    Thank you!

Hi all! Just found this forum and I'm so glad I did!!! Been freaking out on my own over here!

I'm a semi-finalist for a research Fulbright in Ireland (any others out there??)...hoping notifications come in soon, but I combed through the Fulbright forum from last year, and seems like folks didn't start getting selection notifications from Ireland until early April. Will I survive until then?!!?

I did, however, also see in said forum that notifications had gone out in March in previous years. Crossing my fingers.......

Also semi-finalist for Ireland research! What is your proposed topic?

Ugh, I hope not, I did not hear about a missing transcript  Waiting sucks!!! Sending good vibes to everyone.

Don't look too deep into it. They request official transcripts from each and every semi-finalist. Regardless of whether you are ultimately a non--select, alternate, or finalist.

Hi y'all, gave in and made an account just like every other anxious semi-finalist out there... Does anybody know what happened to the spreadsheet? All the data from this year has been eliminated, the chat sheet deactivated, and the access changed to view only. I'm a little confused? Seems like a curious thing for somebody to do.

Are you looking at this sheet? https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Cd86U9AreH9k_-WKLKnLCLn_C5MC3FKvZZ9RhlqSAq4/edit#gid=2001832949

Got an email from my country program this morning.  During my interview they said they would try to notify me this week, but my new email says that they likely won't be able to notify until April due to the State Dept. being on a "continuing resolution" on the topic of funding.  I don't know if this only applies to my country, or if it applies to all of us...

The last paragraph of the email really confused me, because they said they look forward to meeting me in person and that they're excited about what I plan to do.  I don't know if this means they plan to except me (if funding works out, of course) or if this was just a stock email they sent out to all semi-finalists for my country.

Either way, it was terrifying to see in my inbox, because the email preview said "Thank you for your interview with us. Unfortunately..." :D

Yes, please do tell us where you applied. Are you ETA? Research?

Ireland didn't notify until April 10 last year so I'm not holding my breath for any notification until April 1.

This was in my interview request email: " We have been informed by ECA about having all U.S. student notifications go out by March 1. "

Does anybody know if this means we find out our final status on March 1st?  Or does that just mean the country sends their final choices to the FSB?

Hm, the wording is what is interesting here. My gut tells me the language used to describe a country's choice to the ECA isn't called a notification, they would call it a decision...we are the ones who receive "notifications". My gut also tells me that March 1 is very soon and judging by past calendars, the ECA will not have their business together by March 1. What country are you interviewing with? Thank you for sharing this potential info.

For others that have to interview, were countries prompt about scheduling?

I am a bit late, but I am a semi-finalist for a Taught Master's Award for University College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland. I have already been accepted to UCD, with a Global Scholarship offer. I applied to UCD with the intention of studying English Literature, with a focus in American Lit. I am currently a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellow, and my project is a cross cultural analysis of works by James Joyce and Carlos Fuentes.

I am considering looking into alternative funding as a back up plan, because if I do not receive funding I will take a gap year before applying to PhD programs. I need to do my own research, but does anyone know of scholarships/fellowships that are still open for application?

Finally - is anyone else potentially headed to Ireland? :)

    Hopefully, yes!
Make sure you update your line on the spreadsheet. Congrats on your recommendation to semi-finalist! I hope you find all the monies to study.

I told my employer that I was nominated as a semifinalist and that decisions don't come out until spring, and he said that he would contact HR and get back to me. Definitely give a heads-up, sooner is better than later!

I think it depends on the job. Personally, I would not tell my employer until I knew I received the award.

Does anyone know how this works if there's only one award? I can't imagine they're only picking 2 semifinalists for the partnerships.

Last year, I know there were at least four semi finalists for the one open research award in Ireland. It probably depends on the country/number of applications.

  12. So interesting that FPAs communicate with you guys--- maybe Michigan is too big of a school but I don't hear a peep from them outside of a generic email in early January with the 30th info!   I hope we all receive great news.

Friendly reminder that Fulbright is super competitive and the status of a proposal has NO bearing on your self worth. Many of us will have to apply multiple times to get to a semi-finalist round, and many more to get the award. You are smart! And resilient! And your ideas are worth pursuing.

I say this as an artist and we get lots (LOOOOOOOTS) of "No Thank You's" every month. :)

Great question! I applied for research in Luxembourg and also wondering if interviews are to be expected.

You might search for Luxembourg on past year forums to see if someone shared the information there.

I applied for the Taught Master’s Program Award at University College Dublin. This award requires applicants to be enrolled as an MA student at UCD, and I was accepted to my intended program (MA in Literature and Culture with a focus in American Literature)! :) Now just waiting to hear about the other half of the process in January. Best of luck to everyone throughout the waiting process; hopefully the new year will bring some exciting news!

I hope we're both in Ireland next fall!

Hi all, I applied to do research in Nigeria.  Anyone else notice that the application closed 3 weeks early this year? Anyone know if that means we'll be notified about the first round 3 weeks earlier (meaning next week)?

I didn't notice that, no. From previous application experience, I'd assume that we won't be notified of the first round any earlier than previous years. Slow as molasses!

  16. Has anyone found the document that contains panelist names for this round? I'm applying to Ireland in Installation Art and last year, I was able to locate the names of those who pushed my proposal onto semi-finalist round (the American panelists) but haven't had any luck this year.
