Where in Ireland are you applying to go? I'm an Irish studies specialist and have spent a lot of time there.

Excellent! I proposed to work in Ballyvaughan, co. Clare. Where have you spent time?

Japan notified around 10am, which I was not expecting at all - Congratulations everyone! I am an Alternate, so the waiting continues! It feels like I'm still in a limbo state since the 6 finalists in the newly graduated research category could make any decisions that may or may not impact this. But it's still a blessing that I've made it this far, I'll just have to see how things turn out over the next month.

Congrats! Sending positive vibes your way. Regardless of the final outcome, Alternate is a huge achievement!

I am actively seeking a job, since my current position ends when I graduate in May. I figure the Fulbright is not something I can bank on, so I need to be searching for a solid plan B. I've had a few interviews, and came close to getting hired in one job. I'm not bringing up the Fulbright, at all. Even though it seems more "honest," you risk being pegged as someone who will leave whenever a better opportunity comes along. If I end up accepting a job and then get the Fulbright, I will simply reverse course and decline the job. I've been a working professional for over a decade now (I'm almost 15 years out of college), and if I've learned anything it's that you have to protect your own interests. Don't burn bridges, but also don't sacrifice your own well-being for a job - because your job will likely not make similar sacrifices for you.

I second this. I'm not mentioning Fulbright to potential employers and removed "Fulbright semi-finalist" from the CV's I'm giving them (though I'm keeping it for residency opportunities).

Im betting that we are going to get a lot of notifications today!

Michigan just sent out a "hang tight if you're still waiting and let us know if you hear anything" email to all semi-finalists and it just about gave me a heart attack to see "Fulbright U.S. Student Program - Second Round Notifications" in my inbox. lol. Serious spike in the ol' cortisol levels.

On a more productive note, I'm forcing myself to prep (yet another) residency application that takes place in the first few months of 2018. Need to get a full time faculty application in before April 9th as well. How is everyone still waiting passing the time?

I'm considering drinking scotch at 2 pm at a professional conference at this point :(

Fulbright should really give out voucher for meditation clinic or something with the semi-finalist notifications :unsure:

I support both of these sentiments.

  6. Just called Marla about Ireland results and she said "it's generally late March or early April".

edit: I wish I could down vote my own post, lol.

I'm willing to buy a goat for real

The farm I apprentice at just had a bunch of kids last week...one of the dams pretty much gave birth right into my arms. So I've been hanging with those little guys a lot to cope with the stress. It's also put me at peace with whatever the results may be...I have a great thing going here and Fulbright can't change that.

    So yes, baby goats work.

It's honestly worse that they split notifications this year because now the spreadsheet feels kind of useless. I just thought we'd have to survive until our country notified.

    Totally agree!
