Europeans haven't heard of American schools that are thousands of miles away? Weird.

I watched the German version of the Big Bang Theory on a local TV channel today. On it they said "Caltech University". I giggled

It never even came to my mind to keep my toothbrush outside the bathroom.

I regularly switch my toothbrush though to prevent an unhygenic situation.

Well I don't know how to convert your GPA... maybe do it for us?

Your GRE looks good. I think it is more important than your GPA for some schools if you're an international applicant. Also, the research internship will help a lot.

Definitely check for schools that don't have a minimum GPA cutoff. Problem is most of them have one but don't say so. What you can do is contact the profs you're interested in before you apply. If possible, ask them some in-depth question about their research, this means you should read their papers and show that you understand what they are doing and are interested in it. If you're lucky they will remember you when reviewing applications.

Also, ask the supervisor of your internship or some of your undergrad professors if they have connections to professors in the states (i suppose that is where you want to go).

You really shouldn't worry that people can google you as long as it does not contain personal information.

If you're looking for a hobby I can recommend anything physical. Sport is really a good way to get your mind off research.

Also, especially in the STEM field it is very likely that you will encounter backpain at some point. A good workout can make these problems go away.

Deciding between Ph.D. and Masters should only be about what you want to do.
If your ultimate goal is research, go for a doctorate. If not, or if you're unsure, I'd go for a Masters.

Also..your grades look good and UNC is a decent school.

It's even more strange when you're not form the states.
In Germany we don't have American style graduate schools, so nobody knew what the big deal was when I got accepted. Also, nobody knows the institution I am going to although it's one of the best schools for my field.
It's also not common here to do your Ph.D. directly after your bachelors, so I just told most of the people I am doing my Masters

I ended up just changing my facebook profile to the new school so everybody knows about it and I don't have to explain it anymore. I really don't like using facebook but for such purposes it is kind of useful.
(I did not figure out how to use this life event feature though. There is no option for grad school acceptance...)

    Hey,

so right before I was accepted into college I broke of with my girlfriend and now I'm single and about to leave in two months..
I am in this weird state where I am just waiting to leave the country. Meeting new people does not make any sense anymore. I feel like I should enjoy those last free months but I really just wait for the time to pass by.

Anybody else feeling the same way?

I just looked at the fares and schedule section of trailways and it looks like it doesn't list that route. But if you go through the purchase ticket process there looks to be a bus that goes from syracuse to ithaca every day around 4.

Going from NYC and taking a bus is a pretty good option too.

Maybe take a look at http://www.trailwaysny.com, or Greyhound. There's also some kind of "limo" service too apparently.

That I was actually admitted into my dream school without having a perfect profile.

It seems to me that choosing the school that actually fit your interests and skills is the most important part of the process.

If the "stipend > all expenses" is also shown on your I-20 then you should be fine. The interview is shorter than you think and is usually only a formality.

At least I wasn't asked for any additional documents. I offered to show a bank statement but they told me it is not needed. I recommend to bring something just in case anyways.

Don't get me wrong. I do think you have a chance to get in.
But there are many other good schools besides the top five (or even 20). Just google a little. Look for the professors that do awesome research, research you would love to do. You will only excell at your studies if you love what you do.

Write exactly that in you SOP. I think its a good way to show that you like research and know what will await you in the Ph.D. programme.

Most schools already had visit days so you could start to be a little worried. If I were you I would start thinking about a plan B (job applications, schools with different deadlines etc).

That being said, I haven't heard back from Johns Hopkins either.
