Sometimes schools have more than one interview session. They may do a later interview set. You can't know until you get the rejection. Having not been rejected now is a good start since it means there is still a chance. You can't do anything about it now but you can wait and try to stay sane. Best of luck.

I'd check the results search to see historically when people heard back. All depends on the school and the program. For now just let yourself stay occupied with other things and best of luck!

Interview tomorrow - help me prepare?
peachypie replied to katiegud's topic in Interviews and Visits
No idea since I have only had an interview where its just for the visit/recruitment and not specific for funding but I'd guess it would be similar. You'll probably get a lot of questions about what drives you/interests you/research you have done in the past and what types of interest you have for school as well as maybe down the road. -
What to do when you have 1 interview?
peachypie replied to hopefulstudent01's topic in Psychology Forum
Be honest first off. Tell them you are still waiting to hear back from other programs and then quickly move the subject/conversation into why you are interested in THEIR program. That should end it up nicely. Best of luck, one is all you need! -
When you can't find an acceptance deadline
peachypie replied to EccentricAcademic's topic in Decisions, Decisions
I would definitely ask/clarify if you don't know. most abide by the resolution to let you have until april 15th. -
sounds like something that would be difficult to do. I would not do that but that is just me. The best case would be if one of you was on the waitlist and then MAYBE it would increase the chances of coming off the list but in all honesty that sounds kind of unethical on both sides. Schools are interested in you not in two people...i'd think they would not change their stance based on a conditional acceptance, they have a lot of other applicants I'm sure who would be more than willing to comply with the offer they get without a condition. Also why wouldn't both of you want to go to your respective best fit schools? Try long distance? Maybe try to get into schools that are near one another.

"So...you think you want more education...?"
peachypie replied to OCD or Perfection?'s topic in Interviews and Visits
1. Universities interview candidates to make sure it is a good fit for both you and the school. They also like to see that you are what you say you are on paper and so they are making sure it all adds up. It is also their time to educate you about them and their program more and in a more formal/presented situation. The fact that you are having a second one on one may be more formality. Although my interviews have all been a whole day of interviews one on one, not just 1 hour, so maybe they want more time. 2. i wore a suit for everything, a navy suit with a nice shirt and heels (I'm a girl obvi) and I would much rather be the dressed up more than less especially if you care. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident and try to make it look nice. So far I've been more dressed than the professors but so have other applicants. and the applicants who don't dress up have definitely been judged by the grad students even when they are in jeans. Take that as you will. Best of luck! -
I think the best thing you can do is not let it deter you, which it hasn't. Then talk to a few schools if they give you the option to communicate and say what could I do to be a more competitive applicant to your program? Then depending on what it is, try your best to improve that or show progress or evidence why that is an anomaly to your otherwise very nice profile. Good luck and let me know if you have any specific questions.

I have had nearly two months and about two weeks.

Some schools will be doing multiple rounds of interviews/acceptances and others might not. The only way to know is to ask. Some schools send out rejections at the end and some do it throughout the process as well. Have you seen any rejections for your program or just interviews or acceptances? Otherwise hang tight and be happy there is no bad news received. Good luck!

The Campus Visit: Advice Requested
peachypie replied to Academicat's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I'd go. A visit can make you see a school in a completely different light than you imagined based off of its website and talking to people. It'll either push you further in the favored direction or make the other school a bigger chance. Either way I'd take the opportunity to visit especially if you have a 30% chance of interest. give yourself the opportunity to be won over, but you'll never know if you don't go. -
Anyone hear back from Northwestern IBIS program?
peachypie replied to hihan's topic in Life Sciences
I didn't apply to that program but I had a question for you. Did the assistant explain what was still open on the application? Are they waiting on something from you or for some reason a GRE or transcript didn't get there? Aside from that I'd say just to remain calm until you hear something you have no idea what is going on but at this point unless they are waiting for something from you there is not much to do but wait until you hear something. Keep your hopes up because its the best strategy. best! -
I think with good success in your masters program and establishing a positive reputation that it could definitely help you if you were interested in continuing on to your PhD.

I know when you submit a result you can say the date you received this information (it does not automatically fill in the date you are adding) although it will have the date auto-filled that you posted the results in a separate category. I have heard of people hearing from faculty specifically on the weekends however I have received all my e-mails/phone calls during the week (typically towards the end of the week). I think I received one rejection on a Saturday or Sunday via an e-mail actually. It could happen anytime it seems but likely will be during the week.

First one was a weekday later in the afternoon I was at work and getting ready to leave. Second one was also afternoon but I had just finished a round of interviews at another school. Felt so excited but had no one to talk to about it.
-
I would say schools get back to you at different times for the same result. The biggest indicator is if you haven't heard but you know the interviews have been completed, then i would say you can imply a rejection. If not there is still a chance.
-
Typically you want to accept an interview and reschedule if there is overlap for the school contacting you after the other one. Kind of a priority by being the early bird for the school. Generally you take the alternate interview for the school you are somewhat less interested in if you can. If not its not a huge deal. I'd say don't hold out too long for visits or contact the school you are still waiting on to see when they may be scheduling interviews or check the website if you could. I wouldn't decline an offer to visit unless you have decided not to go to this school and you shouldn't make that decision until you've visited. All depends on who you are waiting on and how interested you are in the ones you are still waiting to hear from. I typically accepted an interview relatively quickly, I wouldn't wait longer than a week (depending on when the interview timeline is).Good luck!
-
Yeah I tried this but the program is small enough that I can't find any results actually going back. I was the only one who even posted an interview this year, so the n is very small on this one. Trying to keep distracted for now.
-
For those of you who have already gone through this process or those that are early enough in the application season, how long did you expect or did it take before schools were contacting you regarding your admission following your interview? I have started my interviews recently and am already a nervous wreck as I wait to hear the results. Some schools have been able to tell me a general time period but others only said they'd be meeting after the interviews. When did you get nervous and what is a normal time to have to wait?
-
i don't think so...depends on how closely related the ug and the grad institution is I would guess. But grad school is typically fairly different makeup of students compared to their undergrads.
-
If you can make the 68$ work, I'd send it. There is a chance it may lead to nothing, but you don't want your lack of a transcript becoming the deciding factor. don't make it any easier for them to disregard your application and make their interviewee numbers less. essentially don't let this take you out of the running because they have to cut someone and this just makes it easier. Best of luck!

Stony Brook IDPAS- POI not on the admissions committee
peachypie replied to Daisy123's topic in Anthropology Forum
I wouldn't worry about this either. once in an interview situation its more about how you do in the interviews, the POI would be important if you needed to get to that point. Adcomm are there to make overall decisions but frequently people interview with people not necessarily within the realm of research of the applicant's interest and thats ok. They are looking at you overall, not as research specific at that point. -
I think that won't hurt you, contacting ahead of time will only have helped you but not doing so will generally not count against you. just relax and keep the hopes up.

In all honest, it is always good to have a plan B no matter what. I'd start thinking of your next steps just in case and that way if anything does not work out to your liking you will have something else to focus your energy on and hopefully still a positive step. i have interviews and I'm still planning a plan B. its a good insurance plan since some of this stuff is just too difficult to forecast. Good luck, fingers crossed!
