I still don't know if I'll be able to afford a car, but insurance concerns me, specially because I'm foreigner. I'm over 25 and have a driver's licence in my country for almost 10 years, but I don't have an American licence. Do you guys think this will be an issue when I try to get an insurance?

No news from professor after interview
I am not sure yet replied to Negeen's topic in Waiting it Out
I am in a similar situation, my interview was one month ago and the professor had told me he would get back to me in 3 weeks... Nothing so far! In my particular situation, I will just wait. We spoke a few times after the interview and I guess they haven't made any decisions yet, that's probabily why I'm still in the dark. Do you know if the program already started sending the acceptance letters? If so, I would email the professor, really politely, something like "I'm sorry to disturb you, but I was wondering if you have any news on the decisions for the program". If they haven't sent any acceptance, maybe you should wait. I'm sure the professor still remembers you! =) -

tiny Unfortunately, the cat consumed all glory of the moon and stars. It gave him severe anxiety, but also he received the power to fly. A joy. Suddenly...Bees! They flew around, jealous, plotting murder, arson, etc. They were searching for hundreds of floating wildebeest. These evil bees converged into a mega bee! Zooming fiercely throughout the glen until they could find unsuspecting marsupials, the bees settled on a caribou. Meanwhile, the cat soared through the aether, gathering bundles of tiny…

I have developed conditioned fear responses each time my smartphone beeps. Seriously, today I got a happy birthday message from one of the universities I’ve applied. I nearly had a heart attack! Then I was deeply disappointed.I have developed conditioned fear responses each time my smartphone beeps. Seriously, today I got a happy birthday message from one of the universities I’ve applied. 1) Not to freak out before acceptances come; 2) Lose weight (I lived in the US for one year and gained 20 pounds, I'm still struggling to get back to my normal weight...); 3) Visit my friends in Dominican Republic; 4) Finish reading the books I won't be able to take with me; 5) Finish and submit 2 papers from my Master's research.

Crucial BBQ, I din't get the acronyms in your signature: CSMB? MLML? And sometimes I don't get the program's name on the Results page...

I know the felling, bro! I might have to move to another country and start my life all over again (which is nice, btw), but waiting out is killing me! I can't make plans because I don't know where I'll be in 6 months from now! The other day, I was so stressed out, I got scare with the WIND and droped my phone. Broken screen it is!

A question about application status
I am not sure yet replied to WendyWonderland's topic in Waiting it Out
Those status are confusing! In some programs, mine is submitted, but missing transcripts, but when I contacted the about this problem, they said it was alright, my application was already under review and this was probabily just because they didn't change the status online. But if you are worried, contact the admission office to double check! -
Cognitive Neuroscience for fall 2014
I am not sure yet replied to obf314's topic in Psychology Forum
I applied to JHU and WUSTL (Psychological and Brain Sciences, top choices), got interviewed at JHU, but nothing from WUSTL. I know they were doing interviews this week, so I guess this is a rejection... =( I already have a MA in Psychology, good GPA (3.8 for undergrad and 4.0 for Masters), a couple of oral presentations, but lame GRE. I'm freaking out here! -

I asked the professor when I should expect to hear back from the program, he told me around 3 weeks, so 2 more weeks to go! I don't know if I can handle waiting for any longer!

What's the issue with impersonal emails?
I am not sure yet replied to Eyetea's topic in Waiting it Out
People are just way to sensitive when it comes to the whole application process. I haven't been rejected anywhere so far, but I am ready to get any sort of email, it doesn't really make a difference. I would get more pissed off if I didn't get any answer and had to call/email the program to find out I was rejected! -
I think the process is long and it doesn't depend only on the professor of interest. So, I would wait. He already has a good sense of your application and I guess he might see this as "pushy". If you haven't heard from him or the program yet, it's probably because they haven't made the decisions yet. But if you start hearing about results and you're still in the dark, then I would contact the program, not the professor himself.

Top choice (it's hilarious to see how things change around here!)

Anyone heard news from Washington University in St. Louis? -
Hello everyone! I'm not American and I sure don't like football - neither understand it. But Super Bowl commercials are famous and mostly very impressive. After I watched this year's Coca-cola ad, my first thought was: wow, that's beautiful and touching! Then, I had the terrible idea to read the comments about it. And then I gave up hope in humanity. It' awful to see how much hate and prejudice there's still out there. To sum up, there's a bunch of people saying the ad was offensive to the American pride (well, they didn't put it so nicely). My point is: did you guys find it offensive? I didn't, and I wonder why people got so mad. I'd like to hear your opinion! Here's the video, for those who haven't seen it yet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8iM73E6JP8

I'll have an Skype interview on Monday. I could never afford a trip to the US now, so this is my only option, really. I think in person interviews are easier in the sense you can "conect" to the interviewer faster, it's obviously more personal. In the other hand, without Skype (and similar technology), I would never even apply for a PhD abroad! So, I'm ready for all sort of questions as I would for a in person interview, and, also, ready for possible technical issues: 3 laptops prepared, should do it, right? =)
