  1. You should expect a response soon. Some schools have rolling admissions, so the earlier you applied the earlier you will hear back. If you are really concerned you can call the admissions office and ask what your status is.
  2. Eh. Not necessarily. I technically still haven't been rejected from one of the schools I interviewed at last year. The last I checked I was on their "hold" list.
  3. I can drive! And just in time to start getting ready to move :)

  4. Unfortunately, Office Mobile does not work with Office 2013. Without an Office 365 subscription Office mobile is read-only.
  5. I'm in a similar situation. I have to miss the last two days of Orientation due to a prior commitment. I notified my the head of my program, but I have yet to hear back. Any advice would be appreciated.
  6. Yes. I lived in an area that was economically depressed, so food was MUCH cheaper. I'm also not counting eating out in that (which I did about 1-5 times a week depending on my stress level). I made sandwiches for lunch, had cereal and yogurt or scrambled eggs for breakfast, occassionally got fruit when it was on sale, and I would make large pasta dishes or other foods that would last me about a week for dinner. I would also buy a lot of things in bulk, such as cereal and yogurt, and my roommates and I would often share things like eggs. Keep in mind that I am a tiny person (5' tall and about 100 lbs) so I eat less than most people do.
  7. In undergrad I somehow mananged to survive with between $20-$40 a week in groceries when I was living in an apartment and cooking for myself, but I'm pretty sure that number is going to go up in grad school since NYC is more expensive than Binghamton in every way (except rent, I lucked out on that one).
  8. I told my mother and then she told the rest of my family before I got the chance to tell them myself . But I informed a few of my friends and put it on facebook for those I hadn't told yet. I also emailed my professors that recommended me to thank them and I visited two of them soon afterwads to thank them in person. I am going to head up to my undergrad institution in July to talk to the other two professors who wrote my recommendations to thank them and give them cookies.
  9. The Normal Heart reminded me why I am going to Grad school. I am grateful for it.

  10. Hey, I graduated from Binghamton, too! Class of 2013 . My advice is that NYU is definitely going to be way more expensive than Queens, but a Master's from NYU will carry more weight than one from Queens College, especially since you will be doing more lab experience. Also, is the program a thesis-based Master's or a non-thesis Masters? If you decide to go on to a PhD, the thesis-based Master's may give you a bit more of a leg up as it will have you doing academic research.

    New York, NY

There are mosquitos in New York, but not many. The number varies with where in the city you are though, as the outer boroughs tend to have more Mosquitos than Manhattan. Expect mosquito bites, but not many.
  12. Wow, everybody hear has such big computers compared to me! I have a little 11.5" and it works great for me. I have no problem reading or editing on a smaller screen (I actually prefer it) and the keyboard is just the right size. Plus, I'm a tiny person so I always feel awkward carrying large laptops, and consequently large laptop bags, with me.
  13. My boyfriend is a Paramedic in New York City as well as a paramedic and EMT instructor at the school he got his certifications from. I guess now he does have a higher education since he just finished his associate's though.
  14. My current Boyfriend is a year and a half older than me and just finished his Associate's last semester. When I first met him three years ago, he only had a high school diploma and had started his AS the year before (he was going to school part time). He had to go through some soul searching to figure out what he wanted to do with his life and is now trying to go get his bachelor's and eventually go to med school. Quite frankly I think he is smarter than most of the people I met with college degrees and he is much more well read than I am. He challenges me intellectually and encourages me to use my brain outside of my academic pursuits. A lot of people have yet to realize that higher education does not equal intelligence, and it's been a battle to try to get my family, which is almost entirely college educated, to understand this.
  15. My parents like to travel, so growing up I got to go to a lot of different places. In the US (outside of New York): Texas, New Jersey, California, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, Maine, Florida, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Places outside the US: England, France, Germany, Italy, Egypt, Greece, Bermuda, Spain, Austria, Turkey, Russia, Mexico, Canada, Belgium, Switzerland It's hard to pick a favorite since every place is so different, but if I was absolutely forced to I would probably say Italy. I really loved Italy and I would consider moving there if I could.
  16. I studied Biology with a minor in Anthropology in college, but I absolutely love studying art history as well as literature and film media theory and criticism.
