  1. I see some other linguistics programs are starting to send out interviews! Congrats to the people who got them and good luck!
  2. For the NYU Cognition & Perception post, would you mind PMing me your POI? Thanks!
  3. Yeah, I sort of suspect that these interviews might be aimed at clearing up questions of fit...
  4. It's about time there's finally an NYU result! They were so much earlier last year. Hopefully this means more interviews come soon sorry I can't actually answer the question, it wasn't me!
  5. (unrelated but I love your username!!)
  6. I think it was a mass email because it wasn't addressed specifically to me and I had the writing sample question too. My writing sample is also a mismatch, so you're not alone
  7. Looks like Berkeley is switching it up and doing skype interviews this year!! Did anyone else get one?
  8. I didn't apply to clinical programs! 1) All of the psychology/cognitive science programs I'm applying to do interviews. 2) I've gotten two interview invites so far; one program covers all ground travel and up to a certain amount for air travel (it will completely cover my plane ticket); the other program partially reimburses travel (I will end up spending ~$75 out of pocket). Also, as Dedi mentioned, it's reimbursement, so I won't be seeing that money for a long time probably...
  9. If anyone is wondering about UCSD, I'm an undergrad and found out the other day that Open House is on February 6 this year, so official acceptances should be coming out very soon!! Good luck to anyone waiting and feel free to ask me any questions about the department as well
  10. Yay congrats!!!
  11. Make sure you mention that to him! In general I think a lot of professors assume that deadlines aren't hard for the letter writers, so you should tell him that they definitely are this time.
  12. Having a hard time focusing on school/research because I'm constantly worrying about when I'm going to hear back from schools. Why is it so hard to wait?!

  13. Me too I have shit to do, but here I am just thinking about grad schools...
  14. 1. Professor at an R1 ... I only have one dream job! There are other things I would maybe be sort of content with, but this is it for dreams...hopefully I will be qualified in about 5 years
  15. Informal interviews can mean a variety of things. For example, some people get phone/skype interviews before getting an official invite just to clear up stuff from their application, talk more about their background if they didn't come from a psych undergrad, etc. A lot of people will get official interviews without having one of these informal interviews. Also remember that at most schools, interview invites go out at different times and some people won't hear back until a month after other people hear back. I'm freaking out too, but it's nice to keep this in mind!!
  16. Totally agreed! I had been volunteering in a lab for a year, working hard on my own independent project and being accessible/generally friendly. At the end of a meeting a few months ago, my advisor just suddenly was like "Oh yeah, I'm going to pay you this year so you should go fill out HR paperwork." It was awesome! Opportunities like that have come up from other people as well -- making connections and maintaining them pays off.
  17. Congrats!!
  18. Lol this is seriously what it's like!!
  19. Was that Maryland? I remember getting that email too...like 3 weeks before the deadline for linguistics haha!
  20. You have so much time to retake it and a lot to gain from it, so I would do it. I have no idea what Education programs are looking for, but that quant score is really not good and it would be best to bring it up at least a few points. Your verbal is fine and your AW is great, so I don't think you need to worry too much about improving those. I would just focus on studying the quant and retaking it in a few months!
  21. Yeah, NYU does it constantly! I got 3 email confirmations of my submission, and a Happy Holidays email from them...
  22. It rained in here in San Diego yesterday and it was literally on the news all day. What is this strange sky-water?!?!
  23. Haha this makes me think that the person in LA who viewed my profile isn't even from UCLA, just some random person
  24. Mine too! Good luck!!
  25. Another Stanford interview invite went out yesterday apparently...hopefully this means a flood of invites next week
