  1. Been to Germany, Belgium, France, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Finland, Denmark, Austria, Luxembourg, Ireland, Great Britain, Indonesia, Russia, Japan, China, Hong Kong, United States, Canada, Mexico Next destination: Peru. Also really want to go to Dubai too! And {insert destination etc.}...
  2. Pssshhhhhhht. I sing this LOUDLY in the shower. We'd make a great team.
  3. Child-free and enjoying it I don't hate children though, and actually get along quite nicely with my nieces. I spoil them silly with carbs and sweets, and since chocolate is my air, this makes me very popular with them. I think my main reason for not wanting to have kids is just that. Having kids freaks the living sh*t out of me. I minored in Biology and the prospect of giving birth still terrifies me. My sister had a c-section and to say it was gruesome is an understatement. But, since I don't hate kids, I may one day decide to adopt or become a foster parent. For now, carpe diem!
  4. What guilty pleasure? That's a way of life =P
  5. For me it's chocolate, and so much of it that my dentist has a love-hate relationship with me =P
  6. So dissappointed in HIMYM series finale. Feel so cheated! In other news, to the person who takes their morning dump in the public toilet, do flush that loaf. Stop disgracing yourself. *shudder*
  7. So I'm no expert or psychiatrist, but a simple search gave me the following sites that could help: Dr. Oz's alternatives to anti-depressant medication: http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/best-natural-anti-depressants There's also an offsite depression support forum: http://psychcentral.com/resources/Depression/Support_Groups/ I've never used it, but it may help. And I found depression diagnostic test: http://psychcentral.com/depquiz.htm Note: should not replace medical support! Depression is a very serious matter, and for the OP to reach out to people here makes sense and we should not ostracise her for that, especially since depressed people often feel that they have no one else to turn to, or no one who understands them. To the OP, there are people that care about you, and it is okay to reach out for help. Good luck and take care.
  8. According to New Girl, this could get messy, especially if your roommate looks like Zooey Deschanel
  9. Made out with a stranger at a club
  10. That sounds awful. Do you have any relatives living there? See if you could rent from them, and maybe they can give you a nepotistic deal
  11. dstock gave a good list. I've added my expenses breakdown: Monthly Bills/pay every month: Rent $850 (I share a 2 bedroom apartment with one other roommate. She's awesome) Utilities (Electric, heat, etc) 0 (included with my rent... yayy!) Internet 45 Cell Phone (who uses landline these days?) 50 Car Payment 0 (Don't have a car. Choose a place with better location instead) Car Insurance 0 Gas (esp if you are commuting up to 30min twice per day- will add up) 0 (see? this is why you can should go without a car!) Parking at school 0 Groceries/household items/toiletries 300 Laundry $ 4 (I wash my clothes once a month, but I have a lot of clothes, so I can afford to do this) Restaurants/drinks 200 Transportation (i.e., bus fare) 0 (already included in my grad tuition) $1,449 Not really monthly but need to budget for: School supplies, books etc. $600/ 8 months = $75/month Clothing $300/4 months? = $75/month Medical appointments/perscriptions $25 (mostly covered by my grad student health and dental plan) $25/month Dental costs $0 see above Haircuts etc $40 every 6 months= approx $7/month Any travel $3,000/ year (go big or go home)= $250/month Car maintenance $0 Have a little extra money for anything unexpected: broken computer, etc. $100/month $100/month Total incidental fees: $507/month Grand total/month: $1,956/month As you can see, it should be cheaper to go without a car for as long as possible, or until you get a raise! Also, you can be more environmentally friendly by walking/riding a bike!
  12. I've found meditation to be very helpful. It allows you to clear you mind, keeps your mood content, and helps you sleep. 5 minutes in the morning, and 10 minutes before bed does the trick for me
  13. Likewise, I've been in the same situation. Moved to a different state for undergrad, graduated and moved back home with my parents, couldn't stand their dysfunctional ways, moved out again for grad school. The first year of undergrad was the toughest since I had to learn how to use the laundry for the first time. I remember being so embarrassed to ask people how to operate the laundry that I neglected to wash my clothes for four months. Out of socks? Let's just buy a whole new pack from wal-mart. I'm not particularly proud of this. I've been working since I was in middle school though, so I've been paying my bills since. I think I felt most like an adult when I decided to live off-campus. Had to go househunting, roommate searching, and inquired about foreign matters such as utilites and appliances, internet set-up, cost-splitting. When I finally signed the lease, I felt like such an adult. My schedule is now only dictated by class and work, and I can eat popcorn for dinner and drink wine like water with no reprimands
  14. Atlantis.
  15. Hell no. I lead my own life, thank you very much.
  16. I do know how you feel, echob. Grad school can be an isolating experience if most of your friends are "out in the real world" so to speak. I usually just hang out with my classmates, and sometimes we all go to exploring eclectic cafes for fun where you can meet more people. I'm really into singing, so I also joined an undergrad acappella club. When I have time, I also invite people over for netflix bingathons and potlucks. Maybe you can do something similar?
  17. What do you say to someone you've never met before? Talking about weather will only last about 3 seconds, and then you're back to where you started.
  18. What genres do you like? For a more serious thriller-drama, try Orphan Black. Dry comedy? Community.
  19. Enter a sort of reverse "cram" mode: schedule all of your leisure activities and other extracurriculars in the hours that you'd normally be cramming, so you will be forced to get work done in the hours that you normally don't.
  20. Join a club (i.e., running club, tennis club, squash club, etc) that interests you, and sign up with a friend. If your school has intramurals, you could also sign up for this.
  21. No weight gain but have gained eye bags, crow's feet, and permanent frown lines *sigh*
  22. I keep the ones with pretty covers, and toss the rest away =D Actually, no, I lied. I take pictures of the ones with pretty covers, make them my screensavers, and toss 'em all away.
  23. If this is an April Fool's joke, considering giving your creative juices a good shake.
  24. I agree with this. But from my experience, it's good to room with friends of friends, as the friend can hold both you and your roommate accountable to your actions.
  25. I have a friend who emailed their academic coordinator, who then sent out an email to all students enrolled in the program about roommate searching. Perhaps you could try this?
