Bathroom = place for poop. Laptop = something I use while eating. So, no, can't say I've tried it.

Which Countries Have You Travelled/Lived in?
personalityresearcher replied to victorydance's topic in The Lobby
I've been to Peru and Italy. I have to say, the Pervuian food is the best I've ever had. -
Michigan Beer - Isn't it the best!?!

Ever had Arbor Brewing Mr. Delicious Double IPA? Or Grizzley Peak Porter? I'm super into those right now. -
I agree with the last post - you'd need to narrow that interest - e.g., are you interested in a certain disorder/symptom? A specific population? Treatment or etiology? From my experience, there wasn't a lot of schools asking where else you applied. I don't think it'd be a red flag, provided you were able to demonstrate interest in something specific and there were researchers at the programs studying it. As I'm sure you know, restricting yourself to a certain geographic location could make it significantly harder to get in somewhere. But it's a personal preference for some people, I guess.

Old German is neat. I'm a fan of the porter. I think Dark Horse is my favorite. -

We have Founders, Bells, Dark Horse, Shorts, I like Arbor Brewing... New Holland is ok....I'm probably forgetting something...what's in Montana? -
Fatal Attraction: Watched the movie for my Abnormal Psych "diagnose a movie character" assignment...for some weird reason, it just made me laugh after seeing it 3-4 times...which made my friend laugh and then it turned into this thing where we'd watch it together and just laugh. Our Favorite Scene: When Alex Forest/Glenn Close starts the creepy-stalking Dan/Micheal Douglas and says "I WON'T be ignored, Daaaan!"

Weird graduation things your school does?
personalityresearcher replied to DerpTastic's topic in The Lobby
At mine they say your name then you walk onto the stage and shake (the dean's?) hand as they hand you a fake diploma - nothing about field, GPA, etc. Those were on the program brochures - an asterisk next to your name indicating high distinction, etc. If I remember correctly we RSVPed for our graduation to prevent them from calling names of people who were no shows? -
What's your favorite/s? Mine: Dark Horse Scotty Karate Founders Imperial Stout & Dirty Bastard Scotch Ale Bells Two-Hearted Ale

Hmm...I didn't know Dr. Loeb was well-known. (BTW if you're going for "famous" at that school might want to stick to Susana Pecina ...ask Robert Hymes, he'll tell you that) Your position at U of M could be a big boost, provided I'm remembering correctly that it's in psychiatry/directly related to your interest. You need those GRE scores up - 90th percentile both subsections, ideally. Even with stellar scores, LORs, and a great SOP, don't get your hopes up for either school - they'd be plausible, but not necessarily likely, even for President Obama . It's clinical. They're both Tier 1 research schools - they're uber tough to get into - it's nothing about you per se. It's just how it works. But definitely apply - if things go as you anticipate, I'd say you'd have a shot. TLDR other posts/replies :/ Aaaaaaaaaaand with this post I just blew my identity...for all the stalkers and chronically bored/procrastinators...

When it comes to gender, there are bigger within-group differences than between-group differences.

Whole Foods (surprisingly) also has a cheap canned beer (50-75 cents/can I think?) - forgot the name of it. But as I remember it wasn't bad, either. BTW - just tried Natural Light for the first time yesterday. I didn't like it. But, now, the next day, I do. Maybe crappy beer is also an acquired taste
-
Here's another: I love the taste of Pepto-bismol.

Ever tried Name Tag beer? I got it at Trader Joe 3 years ago - 50 cents/can. Good cheap beer. LOVE McDonalds Fish Sandwiches & Red beans and rice and chicken fingers from Popeyes! Also Taco Bell!
-
cheap beer: Budweiser, Miller, Rolling Rock, PBR...there's a special place in my heart for all these water-beers! I'm also beer snob: Dark Horse Scotch Ale, Bell's Two-Hearted...can't get Bells or Dark Horse where I live unfortunately ...also imperial stouts, double IPAs..

Question regarding second interviews
personalityresearcher replied to Psychoanalyst31's topic in Interviews and Visits
Do you mean a second in-person interview the same year? Or an in-person interview after a Skype? Or a second interview at a place you're reapplying at after a post-interview rejection the previous year? -
Some PhD programs in the US are funded (tuition remission plus a stipend typically ranging from 5-25K). Those programs are quite competitive (e.g., admission rates of less than 5% for the programs I'm looking at). But most terminal masters degrees and a handful of doctoral programs offer no funding - some of these programs let anyone in with a pulse , others take 10-33% of applicants.

The thought of doing something with my PI is as gross to me as doing something with my brother. My PI is young and good-looking - many students find him attractive. Still...gross.
