  1. I PM'ed you my detailed story regarding acceptance w/ probable funding to UCSB's program. It's their combined MA/PhD program, by the way. I guess it's so subjective though. Perhaps I underestimated myself as a candidate and perceived myself to be an unlikely acceptance.... Or perhaps it really was unlikely, but I did the right mix of things and had the right mix of experience to sway them.
  2. This is a would-be fake-out moment: I went to check my CU-Boulder application status today, and the whole front page has changed, and it says A FINAL DECISION HAS BEEN MADE on your application, so click on your "Application Status" to check it out. When I click on it, it takes me to the same page I've been seeing for months: application pending. Now, this is only a would-be fake out moment because they called me earlier today to tell me I was in fact accepted. I would have been going NUTS otherwise.
  3. Not exactly the same but similar - I'll PM you later tonight, omw out the door now.
  4. Omg! Congratulations on the fellowship! That's a lot of money for our field! Is it a true fellowship? Meaning, no teaching responsibilities? Congratulations Pedanticist!
  5. LOL! Well, 100% admission rate but I only applied to THREE schools, and I visited all three and have been communication with two of them for over half a year, and with one of them for almost two years about applying. Thanks autumn. I'm floored.
  6. No way dude - you're going to be loved and lauded the world over for your research. I'm not joking. I understand your view though - when studying terrorism topics we're usually surrounded by individuals of a certain mentality, world-view, and mindset, which does not mesh nicely with those who speak out against injustice. But believe me, outside of those circles (which is so much closer to the majority than one might realize), your work is going to be hot sh*t. But more to your point, I received two of my offers well before formal decisions were coming out (still have not come out). They are openly asking me about competition, and one has said they will do what they can to sweeten the deal if it means picking them over the others. Still, you need more than one offer to play those cards. Also, I didn't pull it out of them, they started asking me.
  7. It was hilarious... I was juuuuust trying to deal with the transcript issue I discovered to be systemic (meaning it affected all three of my applications), thinking "dang, maybe that's why they aren't notifying me yet..." and grumbling to myself when my phone rang. I picked it up and there was silence. I was like "Hello? ...Hello??? Hello?!" and the line dropped... I just about lost it... Went to dial the number back and then it popped up ringing on my phone again. I could tell immediately from his tone of voice that it was going to be good news. Then I jumped and pranced around the house like a caffeinated pony while sounding calmly gleeful on the phone (so I believe), and sent myself into a coughing fit (got the bronchitis right now..) from exerting myself so hard on my prances. My stepson said to my partner, "I think this means she's officially wanted in three states." That kid.
  8. Unbelievable. I have my full choice of the three schools I applied to. Just got my last acceptance.

  9. Being a Californian myself... And having lived in several other states and countries .... I think that while this is certainly a generational issue, it is also specifically a California issue, as it seems quite magnified/exacerbated there. Shoot, I was hoping for some better news :/ Maybe I'll try and speak with a few of their current TA's.
  10. Anyone else see the CU - Boulder Results submission? Says "Communications" plural .... and a rejection via e-mail + pdf attachment. Idk if it's legit or not...
  11. I had multiple B's and W's and have been accepted to two schools so far. See PM for details...
  12. Sweet! Thanks!
  13. No way dude, look it up. It's the name given to the seemingly incurable strains of pneumonia, you know, those not responsive to antibiotics or other conventional treatment. That's serious! It also belies the patient's state because apparently you "look" fine, but feel like garbage.
  14. Dude, you have walking pneumonia, that is serious!
  15. Thank you! And thanks for the offer. May I ask, do you know what classes their TA's typically teach? Were you taught by any TA's? What was the level of their involvement? What were your classmates like at the undergrad level? I don't mean to be brash, but my impression when I went there was that there are a lot of spoiled, rich kids mostly all from a single race, with very little exposure to the "real world" ... not even outside their suburban California neighborhoods. The students didn't seem motivated at all in the class I sat in on, even though it was a super specialized class and I figured you had to be in there only if you really liked that subject. I worry about dealing with unmotivated and un-exposed kids every day.... What were your classmates like in your opinion?
  16. I kind of feel like a jerk even posting that I got responses. But I will say that you guys are right on the money. One acceptance makes the whole world brighter. I hope yours come soon.
  17. I had a few POI's... I am looking at the East Asian Religions track as primary focus. The person made it very clear this was not a formal offer of admission, and that full admissions decisions won't be coming out for another month or so. Based on the results search it seems like second week of Feb through second week of March is a pretty typical time frame to hear from them. I was also told I won't get funding info until the end of Feb or early March. Which track are you looking to focus on? Did you apply to MA and PhD? Or one or the other? I applied to the combined MA/PhD. Good luck to you. It is such a great program and really one of a kind... so I hope you get in if it's the best fit for you! For me it is the only religious studies program I applied to, because no where else I found has exactly what I want/need in that field. It is seriously a dream come true, and will be if I get to go there (I just can't without full funding though...).
  18. Yes, what Autumn said is how I also understand it. Thank you guys for the congrats. I am really blown away - I kind of can't believe it yet. It doesn't seem real. Funding info won't come until late Feb or early March. I am kissing the ground and giving many thanks ... I am spoiled lucky compared to others who are/have been waiting in agony for so much longer than I - I will try to be extra extra grateful knowing that. Best of luck to everyone still waiting for a word at all.
