  1. I wrote a thank you and that I would consider it as well as asked a few questions about the program / offer. If you think it would be awkward to just say "Thanks for the offer, I'll let you know" then think of some pertinent questions to give your email more substance.
  2. I wondered of spring break would give admissions time to focus and finalize it all but if they also take a break I guess not.
  3. First result is an acceptance! Feels good to finally be able to add a result to the results page

Thanks all, a tiny bit less stressed now. Still pretty stressed though :P

      Congratulations!

  4. Around 5 months from submission to results, almost half a year. The only thing I've waited longer for is HL3.
  5. There is also a change in perspective you get when you go to another university. Only learning about X from Professor Y instead of learning about X from Professor Y and Professor P, etc.
  6. You mean you never heard of a career as a socio-psych-osopher-neuro-security-data-engineer?
  7. As far as if and when a rejection comes, I guess I would say "what took so long?". The waiting is awful.
  8. Some children are like little panthers so...
  9. As far as the weather in Buffalo, lake-effect snow make winters pretty crazy (especially if you are from an area where there is no snow). I love snow but I don't think I could do Buffalo. Having to shovel snow so your roof doesn't collapse under the weight of it all seems like a little more maintenance than I would like to put up with.
  10. Great Utah sent an email saying decisions would be emailed "Any moment now...". Now I'm stuck refreshing my Google Inbox

  11. Why doesn't an employee of the university have a spot?
  12. I'm just letting the stress overwhelm me. Maybe it will be good practice for if/when I get in?
  13. Honestly if I heard of someone trying to use reporters/lawyers to settle an issue where someone didn't want to help another student or using the word "blackmail" and "harassment" to describe "please work with this other student" I don't think I would feel safe hiring that person.
  14. They specifically link the forum as a place for discussion, results page should be for results so people can use the page for results.
  15. <s>No way, these forums are just for "Rate my chances for the Ivy league"</s>
  16. As TakeruK said, the names are mostly just in the Dear X University Admissions Committee or something to that effect. The letter is more about their experience with you and I think the committee will be more focused on that rather than a few shout outs to their university in the body of the letter. Though I hope my recommender who got his PhD at one of the universities I am applying to made it a little more personal for that specific one. Though I assume the committees will do some background research into each recommender and see it anyway. Not sure it would even matter.
  17. Sometimes my girlfriend will start eating almonds when we watch a show. Like during Band of Brothers... ***There is dead silence as our American heroes wait in their foxholes... ready to take cover from German artillery fire, snipers, what have you... the tension builds and you know something is about to happen when *CRUNCH CRUNCH*..........(ellipses). It is ok though, whenever she is watching something alone I just toss the squeakiest toy our dog has into the room...
  18. Result search is for results, I don't think a question is included in 'results'. I don't know of any policy moderating the results but I assume there is one. It also isn't a good place because someone who posts their results (for say MIT PhD CS) might not ever check the result search for CS, MIT, etc ever again. There is of course a forum on gradcafe that is a place for questions to other users. We may or may not be on it right now... :-D
  19. No, I applied to 8 schools (some use the same application programs) and I got an email from one who said he was starting and less than an hour later he was done except for one (the LOR request email never reached his email box so I had to get the school to resend it). Let your recommenders know what schools you are applying to beforehand so they can get their letters ready (changing the names of the school/program per each letter). Once they get all the requests it seemed like a quick process to do each school. Also remember professors do these letters all the time, it comes with the territory. They probably have a system for submitting them (obviously one of my recommenders system of recommending was to sit down and get the student out of the way so he stops sending reminders ).
  20. Most of mine were links that the recommender would follow. Once they logged into the system they would upload their letter and sometimes have a survey to fill out. It doesn't take a long time, one of my recommenders sat down and did them all in one day.
  21. Does the result search have results for your type of degree and your field and your school's yet?
  22. What is the rate of psychology majors working a job not in their field? If "McDonalds Manager" counts as employment for a recent psychology major grad then the rate comparisons mean nothing.
  23. You sound like a pleasant person. I think there is something about a pot and a kettle and the color black here considering your status... OP, just get on a study plan (Magoosh lists a few based on the amount of time you have before the test) and schedule the time. Studying (and finding the time to study) was pretty difficult when there is so much else (life in general) on your plate. But if you properly budget your time and get good materials, you should be fine (I took it 4 years out of undergrad for reference). I can never forget that since my teacher made us memorize it in song. I guess it was actually a good memorization tool in hindsight.
  24. You could respond positively. Like "It would be an honor to join your program" etc, and then maybe ask when decisions are normally sent out to applicants. He probably doesn't know but it shows interest.
  25. probably because he said vis a vis, who says vis a vis?
