  1. Insurance companies are always great because they will just take care of you and then worry about the whole 'whose fault is it' and 'who do I have to sue' problems for you. I don't think I would ever just accept a cash payment to not get insurance involved. It could turn out really bad if what you thought was just a little damage turned out to be a lot more later on in the shop.
  2. Then that school has more faith in the GRE than even ETS does... I see only one of your denials is official. Shame that Stanford has lost its way. https://www.ets.org/gre/institutions/scores/guidelines/board_guidelines "A cut-off score (i.e., a minimum score) should never be used as the only criterion for denial of admission or awarding of a fellowship."
  3. I doubt people would receive a rejection letter that says "your quant score is too low". ETS even says you shouldn't filter applications solely on GRE scores (using cut off scores that say "if you are below this, you are rejected").
  4. Perhaps they cannot finalize their decision until the application is marked as complete (if your official transcript is the only item left to complete your app). The official transcript might be a University wide requirement before any action (I assume a positive action since a rejection comes to incomplete applications as well) can be taken on the application. That said, weird that they want an official transcript. All of my applications except for one wanted just a scanned version of the official and I would only need an official transcript if I was accepted (and accepted their acceptance). Something about saving trees I imagine.
  5. As great of an analysis she made about worrying... I'm still worried :-(. I always did like rocking chairs though.
  6. Of course they didn't leave a note. Personal responsibility isn't taught in schools anymore.
  7. Walked up to my car and realized the driver side mirror housing (cover I guess) was dented and scratched. It is weird because it couldn't have been a car due to where I was parked. Car has less than 1100 miles on it too :-(. I went from being stressed about admissions to just feeling dejected about everything. Going to have to pay money to fix something some jerk did.
  8. I think you really know what your choice is.
  9. A good problem to have... Thank them and let them know you will consider their offer in the coming weeks. As long as they haven't demanded an earlier written response they aren't going to pull your offer before April. This thread has some good advice...
  10. I don't think the overall ranking is as important as your specific work (who you work with and what you are doing). If one is a better fit, what does it matter what the number next to the schools name says?
  11. You guys are scaring me about Nashville... Which is quite the feat when I live in Atlanta.
  12. If it is something you are interested in, what is the harm of letting them do it? You can always make a decision later depending on how the rest of your applications turn out. It isn't like you have to accept their acceptance if the other PhD track accepts you right?
  13. For profit companies are always going to be looking for profit. Corporations only have responsibilities to their share holders and if they can get things like cheap labor they are going to get them. If it isn't in China they will go to the next country without strict labor laws. You can always try making your own.
  14. It sounds like he would like a short call (just propose some times you would like to discuss it, probably his office hours) to discuss it. The "however" seems to have a negative connotation in his message though, but I am not well versed in how funding is decided. It could just be that he isn't comfortable talking about it just over email, and is perhaps trying to see if you are willing to TA over RA, etc. I'm sure someone else can chime in on how it is usually done.
  15. Set up the call. Only the POI knows what they mean by 'funding situation'.
  16. Many of the GPA (and GRE) requirements I have seen have been set by the school and the department must abide by it, but they do have a few exceptions they are allowed each year (I assume you need to make up for it with stellar everything else to get one).
  17. Don't be shy, for one. Remember, one day you will be a peer and not just a student. So have confidence (while still being open to their wisdom) in yourself. Take interest in their interests as well as share your own. Also share your goals (what you plan to do after MS, in this case PhD, and beyond so they can speak to your ambitions for your letters). Also, do you not plan to go for your PhD at your current institution? Could you not position yourself to continue on after you defend your thesis? These professors probably have the best advice for you on that subject if you do plan to stay. So ask (it never hurts to).
  18. That is some crazy ageism. Surprised Japan does that. If a professor agrees to advise you, he is probably factoring in how long it is going to take advising you.
  19. Yeah 2 isnt a lot. I'm nervous about only applying to eight. Get with someone well versed in interviewing and do some mock interviews so you can be on the ball for your real one this month. Maybe the pressure will help you shine?
  20. The minimum for gatech graduate school is 3.0 so make sure you obtain it. What is your major gpa? (just EE classes) Some schools only care about your last 60 credit hours so if you really improved you could try looking at universities that take last60 into consideration (both Arizona schools do).
  21. Yeah, this isn't really a challenge to a relationship compared to the hundreds of other challenges that relationships face. My parents have had thousands of miles between them at several points for extended periods of time in their marriage (you know, war and stuff) and they are still together. I don't think temporary distance breaks a relationship, it will just exacerbate problems that will. So if you a mature enough to solve problems and understand it will be more difficult to do so from some distance, it won't matter in the long run.
  22. I used a direct manager (but she was retiring) as well as an associate director from the company I work for. Don't be scared, any company that doesn't want the best FOR you doesn't deserve the best FROM you.
  23. I would treat (and prepare like) every interaction with the school before you are admitted as an interview.
  24. Totally, no one ever tries to get a visa to live and learn at "silly American schools".... It is just so silly and not worth anyones time ever.... It has never happened, not even once.
  25. What major?
