  1. Thank you! I will do so! Terrible, isn't it? I simply would just like to know so I can move forward. As for my plan B, I am an adjunct professor at a community college so I believe my next plan of action would be to do whatever I can to try and become a full time faculty member. Do you have any ideas of what you will do?
  2. I've applied to Social programs! I suppose I'll come up with a Plan B then haha
  3. I've heard nothing from my programs (other than UC Davis). I have emailed POIs for an update with nothing in return. Is this normal? I feel like that is just a precursor to the rejection letter.
  4. Darn, I suppose that means I'm facing another admission round full of rejections. Thanks for the info.
  5. In all my demise this season I was beginning to rely on being waitlisted at this point in the game. Though, I'm not sure if you still need an interview in order to be waitlisted. Does anybody know the answer to this? My first round of PhD apps all ended in rejection, so I do not know how it works. Thanks in advance!
  6. Thanks for the positive words, ilikepsych. I hope this isn't the start to a rough verdict process Yeah, I'm feeling the same way 2ndTimeHopeful. This is my second round as well and I would just like some feedback. Perhaps if some other POIs respond to my emails I may ask.
  7. Emailed POI at UC Davis (Sherman) and he let me know I was not accepted. Hope that helps.
  8. Wanted to let all the curious appliers know...I emailed POI (Sherman) at UC Davis for an update and he let me know I was not accepted. Very sad and feeling hopeless. I thought I was a strong candidate (MA, high GPA, excellent independent research experience, worked under a significant figure in the field) but I suppose not. Continuing to wish good luck for you all!
  9. Update Time: After finally receiving an email back from the department, they said my application would still be reviewed. Phew! Good luck everyone. I still haven't heard a peep. Hopefully soon...
  10. @rvavr @cindyboop Thanks for the support! I sent an email to both the recommender and school, so hopefully they both check their emails before break! I know some schools say they'll still review your application regardless of status, but I believe this one said that if all materials aren't submitted then they won't look at it. I'm just upset that it took me this long to discover it guess I'm down to 7 chances now ugh.
  11. Well...*panic mode*... I failed to realize one of my LoR was not submitted yet as the school does not send you a link to check your status upon submission. Thanks, Indiana University! Have sent an email to the writer as well as the program. Everything else was submitted in a timely manner... Now I am mad.
  12. So...just saw someone post on the results thread that Northwestern has finished reviewing applicants. Now I am feeling doubtful as I haven't had any update. I did decide to reach out to my POI at U Wisc.
  13. Hey, could the people who heard back from Northwestern Social let me know who their POIs are? Thanks!
  14. Yes there is! It is killing me seeing people getting interviews already ahhh!
  15. Happy to have submitted everything! Now I am panicked as I just checked the GradCafe Admission Results page and some psych people have received interview emails already! Am I missing something? Hopefully the schools I applied to didn't send these out already
  16. Hey there, I would have to agree with PsyGeek. Most of my friends from my M.A. program who are now in PhD programs are facing the same issue. My one friend attending BYU has told me that there is an air of competition throughout her cohort. She is 1/2 in the cohort who have an advanced degree and it seems as though the individuals who came straight from undergrad are out to compete with them. Whether this be in lecture settings or in the lab, someone always wants to show they are better. I believe this has to do with a need to prove themselves as they did not have the graduate experience. My advice would be to take it with a grain of salt. Understand where they are coming from (i.e., new educational setting, being uprooted) and keep it moving. You are there for yourself and shouldn't worry about others judgments. Stay strong!
  17. Don't worry! You will be fine. I moved to NYC to attend grad school and it was a nice change of pace from NJ (not far, I know). Take time to explore your new surroundings. Learn the area. You will also meet great people at school, I know I did, and they will become a part of your family as well. Remember: this is your time. Enjoy it
  18. Agreed, the worry about being deemed 'incomplete' has me a mess! I did contact Stanford though and they said not to worry, the application will still be viewed with the attached unofficial transcript. Phew! Glad you had that opportunity, PsyGeek! Unfortunately, my schools are too far away from where I live for me to have done that. Hopefully things will work out fine, though.
  19. Feeling anxious about transcripts as well! Submitted a few apps and the 'official' transcript is not showing up on the checklists even though I requested official transcripts a month ago. Hopefully just a processing issue! Now I'm deciding if I should submit diversity statements or if that would hurt me. Ugh! Good luck all!
  20. Hey Becca, totally understand how you feel. I hate the GREs with a passion. My scores are sub-par, though I have an MA and research experience. If I could offer any advise, I would say to move forward with the rest of your application materials. In the end, I believe your sanity is not something to sacrifice and if taking the GREs again will stress you out, then don't do it! Focus on selling yourself in other ways (i.e., SoP, CV). You've got this!
  21. Thank you fuzzlogician! Very helpful
  22. Hi all! Wanted to join your thread! Looking for Fall 2018 admission to a Social program. I graduated with my MA in May from NYU. I aided in a lab for the length of my time there and loved the people I met! If anyone has questions about NYU, I'll be happy to help. Otherwise...here goes. Program of Interest: PhD Social Psychology --> Stereotyping and mechanisms of stereotyping. Schools I'm Applying to: Stanford, UCDavis, UWisc - Madison, U Indiana - Bloomington, Tufts, Penn State, Tulane, Northwestern Worried About: GREs ( i hate them), lack of publications. Not Worried About: research experience, LoR, GPA.
  23. Hello!!! Currently applying to psych PhD programs. I am in the process of perfecting (if you will) my CV for upload to application portals. My question is whether or not to include future positions on the CV. Last week, I was hired on as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology, though I will not start teaching until the spring semester (way after apps are due). Do I include this in my CV? I feel that the position will look excellent to admissions, but since I have not started the position I am worried it will come off as presumptuous and weird. help!
