Southern Applicants
Gingiestrong replied to southernspeechie's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Oh god I just checked mine this morning and I had 4 extra views as well! I'm so afraid that they won't like my video and I'll get rejected based on that haha. Also, it looks like people started hearing back last year between March 13th-15th, so I have a feeling we will hear back by Tuesday! That would be nice, anyways. -
I feel like it's totally acceptable in this situation. Like they initially told us a firm date of March 7th and then didn't stick to it, so they can't be too mad if people start questioning when we'll hear back lol. If you're worried about emailing, you could always justify it by saying that you need to make a decision soon on your other acceptances (idk if this is true or not for you).
-
On the 7th JU sent out emails requesting that certain applicants send them a short video, although I'm not sure how many applicants received that email! We have until the 13th to submit, so I'm guessing that decisions will be sent out early next week (I'm also basing this on when results came in last year). Good luck!
-
Oh god, my anxiety just intensified with the thought of results being sent out tomorrow haha. Maybe they will start sending out decisions tomorrow and continue through the end of next week?? Idk but this picture has never been more accurate.

THIS. I'm looking at you, University of Arizona. One of my letter writers is on the admissions committee for that school and I'm really tempted to call her and find out what's going on, but I don't want to be more obnoxious than usual lol. I'm dying inside it's fine

I just submitted my video this morning! Now to just anxiously await a decision lol. I'm hoping we'll hear back within a week of the deadline! -

I'm also super excited/nervous! This is my top choice school, so I really want to make an awesome video. The fact that these videos will determine their final decisions is kind of terrifying, but at least we have a week to work on it and make it perfect haha. -

Greetings, Your application has been reviewed by the committee, and you are one of the top ranking candidates. Due to the highly competitive nature of this year’s applicant pool, the admissions committee would like you to complete a short video answering the following questions: Why are you interested in Jacksonville University? 2. What are the top two characteristics that you have that distinguish you from other applicants? Guys I'm freaking out. Did anyone else receive this email from Jacksonville University? This seems like a cool/unique way to go about making admissions decisions, but I have no idea how I should go about making this video. Like do I write myself a script and make it a super high-quality video, or just be laid back and do it through photobooth on my computer lol. Any advice would be appreciated! -

Once you have recorded this, you should upload it to Youtube, but make the Privacy setting as “Unlisted”. Then you will copy and paste the URL into an email that you send to Brittany Copeland, Academic Advisor. The link will then be forwarded to the committee who will review the videos in order to make final decisions for the early admissions cycle. You must email your link to Brittany by Sunday March 13th , 6pm." Guys I'm freaking out. Did anyone else receive this email from Jacksonville University? Oh wow, I totally missed the part of their post that said PhD program. That makes so much more sense!

From what I know, we should all be hearing back by March 7th! There is one rogue post on the results page that claims an acceptance on February 8th, but it seems a bit odd since that's only a week after the deadline and no one else has heard back yet. I think it's safe to assume that all decisions will be sent out in the first week or so of March! Here's to the most stressful two weeks of our lives...haha
-
Just curious, were the two documents a pre-req verification form and essential functions form? I got an email about that a few weeks ago, but I wasn't sure if everyone had to submit those. Hopefully we hear back soon!

Has anyone heard from these schools?
Gingiestrong replied to Cookie Hall's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
GVSU is supposed to send out invitations for interviews in mid-february (so like now), but I haven't heard back yet! If none of us get any updates this weekend, I'm considering emailing them next week to see when they are planning on sending them out. This is so stressful lol -
Already posted something about this on the interview thread, but has anyone heard from GVSU about interviews yet? Their website says that invitations will be sent out mid-february, so I was wondering if anyone has heard back yet.

Official Fall 2016 Interview Thread
Gingiestrong replied to OverCaffeinated's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Has anyone received an invitation to interview with GVSU yet? Their website says that applicants will be notified mid-february, which is like...now lol. I'm trying not to be a psycho and check my email nonstop, but the stress is killing me! I'm considering emailing Dr. Macauley, but I don't want to bug her...so if anyone has any info on interviews, it would be super appreciated! -
An old thread, but I found a lot of the stories on here to be very uplifting.
-
Hey ya'll, thought I'd share a news update for all of my fellow GVSU applicants! According to their website, interviews will be held on March 19th, with invitations being sent out mid-February. So basically we should all know where we stand in the next two weeks or so! Hopefully this info serves as a bit of a stress reliever for those of us freaking out about this school lol. This isn't "tough love", it's just straight up rude. It kind of seems like you have some personal issue with this poster? I understand what you're trying to say, but there are a million other ways to phrase advice without sounding so aggressive. Like what possessed you to join this thread and go on a rant against someone you don't even know? Let it go.

To anyone that has completed their GVSU app: did you resend your transcript after your fall grades came in? I completed my application back in October and my fall grades actually boosted my GPA quite a bit, so I'm highly considering sending them another copy before the deadline. Also, for those of you that did send an updated copy, what address did you send it to? I know that they initially request you send all materials to the Allendale campus, but since the deadline is coming up fast, should I send it straight to the program in Grand Rapids? Any info would be greatly appreciated, and good luck everyone!!

Physical Sciences requirement
Gingiestrong replied to espresso68's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I could be wrong, but I think you can literally take any course that deals with either physics or chemistry. I took an intro to chemistry course to fulfill the requirement, so I'd imagine that a more advanced course like biochemistry would definitely work as well! -
Jacksonville University rolling admissions
Gingiestrong replied to Gingiestrong's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
http://www.ju.edu/Admissions/Pages/FAQ.aspx It appears that the FAQ for graduate admissions is the same as the undergraduate one, and under the first question it says, "the very first priority application date is November 15th – if you have submitted all of your documents by this time, you will receive your admissions decision on December 1st." It's possible that this is old information, but I assumed that since all of their applications are rolling admissions, applicants who submit by the 15th are pooled into their first round of decisions. I might email them to confirm this though. It would be awesome if we found out this early in the game! :] -
So as of yesterday (October 27th) I completed my application to Jacksonville University, and all of my required materials have been received. I know that this program does rolling admissions with soft deadlines, and was told that if I had everything in before November 15th, I would receive an early admission decision. Did anyone on here apply early to this program last year? If so, when did you guys receive an admission decision? It's probably way too early to be getting anxious over this, but I have no idea what to expect lol.
-
This is so helpful, thank you!!! I didn't even think to check the FAQ haha. Also, I couldn't help but notice we're applying to two of the same schools! How is your Jacksonville app going?

Anyone else applying to ASU this year? I'm kind of freaking out over the fact that personal statements have to be 300 words or less. All of my statements so far have been around 700-800 words, and I'm not sure how I'll be able to cut that down without removing important information! The prompt just says, "explain your reasons for wanting to be a speech-language pathologist". To me, that sounds like they want to hear about personal backgrounds, rather than clinical experiences and such. I was going to explain that my dad had a stroke and was diagnosed with aphasia when I was very young, elaborate on how speech therapy has helped him over the years, and then transition that into an explanation of why this has made me want to pursue SLP. I'm worried that it'll end up sounding like a sob story, but I'm not sure how else to approach this prompt! Any suggestions?

Do I have a chance?
Gingiestrong replied to mayadel3@yahoo.com's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Alright, well I was just trying to be encouraging to those of us who have less than stellar stats, but I guess I stand corrected. Regardless, I think it would be silly to give up on this major before you've even tried applying!
