  1. I'm a Fletcher student, so I'm biased, but I chose Fletcher over SIPA because (actually I didn't end apply to SIPA because of these reasons) Too expensive I heard through SIPA grads and current SIPA students that the big name professors are never there. Like, you'll never actually get to face time with Jeffrey Sachs I knew SIPA grads who were still looking for jobs a few months after graduation. Yeah, that happens to some Fletcher grads too, but I figured that if I end up in that position, I'd rather be in that position with a lot less debt Larger class sizes at SIPA At the same time, I'd rather be in NYC than Medford any day of the week.
  2. Did anyone go to the admitted students weekend want to share their experiences?
  3. Nice, I'm also interested in political risk analysis. Have you been successful in finding an internship in this field for the summer?
  4. Has anyone been in touch with their "Admissions Ambassador"? I would love to talk with a student or alum, but I still haven't been contacted by mine.
  5. Haha finally got the email. 2500 a semester. I will most likely be declining. Congrats to everyone!
  6. I had very good results across the board, and was fortunate to be offered a 100% tuition waiver + small stipend to both CMU Heinz and Fordham's IPED program. At the same time, I was offered $13K a year at Fletcher. I am also considering MSFS, but I wasn't offered any funding, so I will probably decline. I have been reaching out to professionals in my field, and I've been getting mixed advice about the importance of the name and networking vs. actual technical skills. My dream is to be an FSO, but if that doesn't work out, I am interested in working in some capacity, be it government or private sector, in economic development and labor issues in the Middle East and North Africa. My concerns about CMU is that it is more domestic policy oriented, and my concern about Fordham is that since it's pretty small, it lacks the networking opportunities that a big program offers. Would I be crazy to turn down a free ride for Fletcher?
  7. Great! First, how did you decide on Fletcher? What was your thought process? What are you studying and what are your post-Fletcher ambitions? Has the Fletcher name or network helped you in your job/internship search? Do you feel like you miss out in anyway on networking and job opportunities by being in Boston instead of NYC or DC?
  8. I emailed on Friday asking about when we'd learn about funding offers, and I haven't received a response. This whole thing just leaves me with a poor impression of GWU. I understand that funding decisions might not be ready, but they can at least keep us informed about their timeline.
  9. What if, by pure coincidence, no one on gradcafe got funding, and that's why we haven't been sent anything?
  10. Did you get your funding information in your admissions letter?
  11. Wowowow! I'm in too! I can't believe it. No word of funding though.
  12. I feel like such a chump constantly refreshing my email...
  13. Just a word of advice, I attended a HKS information session with a friend, and she asked about submitted AP Calculus scores as quantitative experience. The dean told her that they don't want anything from high school. A recommendation might be different, but I could imagine that admissions committees might look down upon a recommendation letter from a high school teacher.
  14. I'm still weighing my options. The other two I'm really considering -- unless GWU comes through with an amazing funding package -- are Fletcher (I feel like the program is probably the best fit for me) and CMU Heinz (I got a 100% tuition waiver there as well). I really like the IPED program and the fact that it's in NYC. I worry about the name recognition, though. Will a degree from Fordham go as far as one from a "bigger name" school?
  15. Oh wow, I really hope not. That would be brutal.
  16. @RCtheSS Just wanted to say congrats on all that green in your signature!
  17. @ZebraFinch, did you apply to Georgetown McCourt or MSFS? Just wondering because I applied to MSFS, but I haven't heard back yet.
  18. I'm in at the Fordham IPED program with a Coverdell fellowship. Did anyone else on this board apply?
  19. I was accepted into the International Development program. The acceptance deadline is May 1st.
  20. In the threads from last year, it looks like funding letters came separately but the same day as acceptances. I don't think they released their decision letters on a Friday afternoon though, so we might have to wait until Monday.
  21. I got 26K for two years. I'm ecstatic, but I wish it was more. It's my dream school, but it's so expensive!
  22. I am a huge proponent of work first, grad school later. I think you will appreciate what you will learn in grad school more if you have a few years of work experience, pharmacy experience, under your belt. I am 3+ years out of undergrad, and I am so happy that I didn't go to grad school straight out of undergrad.
