  1. See I've never been in an Ikea before, I didn't know you could do that!
  2. I'm debating whether I should treat myself and get a nice desk for home. I'll be reading/writing papers a lot so I think I can justify it ha. Any recommendations? I would like something clean, not bulky, and maybe in a fun color? I'm planning on having a laptop, printer, and would like some room for papers. Storage would be great too! I've been looking online for a bit and have found nothing yet.
  3. I know! She travels a lot for work so thats how shes able to build up all those points. Several years ago we were able to stay in downtown charleston for free because of her points. That was a fun trip. I know she feels guilty for traveling so much though, I tell her all the time its ok! She's excited though because she actually goes to a city for work frequently thats near Lubbock so shes happy she can still see me.
  4. That's why I'm not tooo worried about finding a place, Lubbock is a small city/college city. There are plenty of places available. Our lease ends in July, but we will be leaving beforehand. My mom was generous and is letting me use her points so we can stay in a hotel for free for 2 weeks. So we will use that time to find a place. We decided against the uhaul, which makes things easier.
  5. @sjoh197 Sorry about the funding! Anyone else super paranoid that they are going to fail a class and then not get to go to grad school? Just me? Thats the only reason why I haven't accepted Texas yet. I'm super paranoid of my test in physics and we haven't gotten back yet. I thought I did ok but now I'm starting to freak a little. I mean I got an 84 on the first test but still
  6. Oh my personal samples! I'm not sure how many I have but its less than 200. I know the feeling of moving professors, I've moved three of their offices by now. Geologists are the worst hoarders ha. @MarineBluePsy Yeah I guess TSA aren't really thinking about us chucking rocks at people, they most likely think we are weirdos ha. And I will have to say I have 4 coffeepots so having a lot of deodorant makes sense. Better to be prepared!
  7. They clearly don't know a good sample when they see one! Man its going to be a pain to move all of our samples. I don't want to part with anything.
  8. Nooooooooo, hopefully their swabs didn't damage it. The irony of it taking millions of years to form and can be easily destroyed by anything remotely acidic.
  9. Well you would have to be very dedicated to make a bomb of out a micrite limestone
  10. Somehow this mental picture of TSA personal swabbing deodorant sticks is super funny! I've actually never realized that there isn't a limit of deodorant you can bring on the plane. Wonder why
  11. If having too many bags is wrong, I don't want to be right! I have three deodorants, one for the bathroom, one for my bag (I sweat a lot), and a backup just incase somehow to breaks. So you aren't alone!
  12. I think so too, I mean a prime example is the South Harmon Institute of Technology
  13. @sjoh197 @Neist Yeah I think science museums are the best, but I'm completely bias. But in funny/awkward news my sociology professor handed me a typed up letter from their department head saying how my professor has recommended me to be a sociology major. I'm flattered that he recommended me, but I'm graduating..... I emailed him saying thanks and it feels great that he sees potential since I'm planning on using some sociology techniques for my masters thesis. He pointed me to one of their faculty who could actually help me find resources for my masters thesis. And this is why I love my school!
  14. And its finally coming together! We had a budget of 450,000 which got slashed to 120,000, mutiple delays, an unimpressed administration, etc. But we are making it! My mentor said once the museum is done he is officially retiring. He even said when they look for his replacement to run the museum, he will put in a good word for me. Btw I'm super jealous of you!
  15. @hippyscientist Haha, sorry! I've been working on this for 4 years along with my mentor so I think of it as my museum. But its actually the university's museum! And that sounds like so much fun. I wish I went to museums as fieldtrips, we mainly went to jamestown, colonial williamsburg, etc. We went to a petting zoo once!
  16. That's exactly what I want to give people, knowledge AND fun memories! I also love how there's no set formula on how to design a museum, I find the architecture just as interesting. The ones that definitely stick out in my mind are the Perot Museum and Salvador Dali Museum.
  17. That does look pretty awesome and those other museums sound great (not sure if I could survive the American Pigeon Museum, might die from laughter). Thanks for the suggestions! I may suggest a funded field trip....for research purposes of course.
  18. Mainly science and interactive museums! I've been working/interning/volunteering at museums for around 2-3 years now and I absolutely love it. My undergrad is in geology and I would like to get people super excited about science. But just to visit? I pretty much like any museum, I think they are very unique in a way because they can be about anything really.
  19. I'm so tired, I spent 2 hours sweeping our museum. I'm super excited about us opening! A lot of people ask me where I'm from because I have an "unusual accent". Its weird because no one else in my family sounds like me. @pterosaur my school also doesn't send official transcripts until I graduate so I have to send those to Texas after my ceremony!
  20. @ToGoOrNotToGo Anytime! A lot of my friends struggled with the decision as well and even I thought about it. Just no one openly admits, which I can't understand why.
  21. @Pink Fuzzy Bunny Because I suck at technology apparently! It was suppose to be an otter gif, but here's the link. That sucks!
  22. That's awesome! My cousin moved from Minnesota to Arizona and she loves it there. I think amazing coffee is in order! When I celebrate I put ice cream and a bit of baileys into my coffee.
  23. I talked to my potential adviser today and she was so welcoming/friendly! I have an amazing feeling going to Texas Tech. I'm also happy everyone is excited! @BooksCoffeeBeards Yay, congrats! Weren't you nervous about hearing decisions back or am I confusing you with someone else. I'll also be in the southwest!
  24. yeah I think they were just giving you the option for the full amount. I'm curious, why did you decide on a long distance program and what do you want to study? I'm also going for my masters in museum science!
