  1. I also started looking into Plan B before Texas came through. One way I was coping was telling myself grad school will always be there. Sometimes I feel like we get this pressure "of now or never". I wonder if its a cultural thing. I've noticed a lot of my friends from other countries don't have this sense of urgency when it comes to time. And good luck in pharma! Hopefully that job market isn't saturated like the law job market is.
  2. I only have IUPUI left but I wish they would hurry up and either accept or reject me. I have a great deal from Texas Tech so no matter the outcome I'll be happy. If I only was accepted to Oregon I would feel differently ha. My boyfriend keeps telling me to be patient and not send any emails. He's most likely right, I just despise not knowing.
  3. @rhombusbombus See that would actually be too convenient though! I'm super excited about Lubbock because my boyfriend and I can afford to rent a 2-3 bedroom house and get a dog! Sure we still have things to plan but its actually a possibility which makes me want to get there now ha.
  4. Hopefully you will get everything you need soon! I also echo @sjoh197 feelings on the inflexibility and how that may impact you later on. Right now grad school is suppose to be encouraging so you would actually want to go there. If they are pushy now I could see them always being pushy or getting worse. Then again they may have a lot of people asking if they will get off the wait list and thats why they have given you a short deadline. Trust your gut though.
  5. Does your boyfriend realize how much of an impact that he's having on your choices? I know my boyfriend would be floored/unhappy if I choose an unfunded program over a funded one partly because of him. Then again we are all different. I would choose the small town with no debt than big city with big debt. You could always visit Seattle for day trips. But if you made up your mind then no one here can say anything. Good luck!
  6. Yeah you can back out! Tbh I would just take the other offer since you like the school and the money is good. That's just me though. Good luck!
  7. I'm not sure if you have found out if you are actually funded or not yet. Too bad, the letter is suppose to clear everything up, not confuse everyone! It seems like grad schools like to use convoluted language instead of being very straightforward. Tbh I would go with your husband's offer if it is unfunded. Btw long distance is pretty awful, so be prepared! My boyfriend and I only did it for around 6 months and we decided we won't do that again.
  8. @thepinkdragon76 Thanks for the suggestion but I got into Texas Tech and received funding so I'm happy! Btw thanks everyone for giving me advice. I really appreciate it! I've been super busy so I haven't been on here for awhile. Now I have no excuse and should actually focus on my school work haha.
  9. Not really since my grandparents have been dead for over 10 years. And tbh I would find it foolish to blindly accept it without thinking about all certain kinds of situations. My family has a funny relationship with money so I think its smart on my part to think things through. Then again I didn't fully explain my family life here.
  10. I'd say that's great. It's not childish... what would be childish is to reject their money just to save your own ego. Ok wasn't thinking of my ego,but thanks.
  11. My dad would definitely do this and has done it in the past. However, this is coming from my mom's parents and he has no control over the money. My mom told me she would never withhold the money and will actually divorce my dad if he tried to prevent my mom from giving me the inheritance. I'm still cautious though.
  12. Thanks for that! I was thinking the same thing, but I wanted to get non-bias opinions on the matter. Oh trust me, if I ever had kids/grandkids I would definitely help out. Not sure if I would be able to pay for everything though, since college tuition is pretty much worth more than my kidneys ha.
  13. Another one bites the dust! I'm not upset about being rejected from UNC, it was a bad fit. Would it be crazy to go to a grad school without guarantee funding? Also my mom recently told me my grandparents set aside money for my education and she was saving it if I went to grad school. Idk, on one hand its smart to not take out any loans. But it feels almost childish to accept that? What do you guys think?
  14. Too bad there isn't a website for masters. I've been accepted into one school and they don't provide funding the first year. They also can't guarantee funding for the second year. I've asked about certain fellowships being available and I haven't received a response yet. But the department that accepted me has been wonderful and I can see myself doing well there. If only it wasn't so pricey.
  15. Hey, I'm also applying to museum studies programs! I'm more on the science side of things though. Did any of them offer funding? My mom works in DC so I visit her and it is a really cool place. I'm not sure if I can help much since I'm applying this cycle as well. I'm just happy there is another museum person posting ha.
  16. That I could totally afford 50,000 dollars in debt. My only acceptance doesn't guarantee funding so if I didn't get picked for possible fellowships then that's what I would end up with after I complete my masters. I have no undergrad debt so that blinded me for a bit. But reality has set in, sigh...
  17. Meh I guess, I reserve the right to be bitter until tomorrow ha. I guess it was a blow since I felt like Kansas was one of the schools I thought I had a reasonable chance. Now I'm definitely worried about Texas Tech and IUPUI.
  18. And I was rejected from Kansas. Sad, oh well life goes on.
  19. My boyfriend just applied to a hydro position that would be perfect for him and pays well! Now I realllllllyyy want to get into Kansas
  20. Annnnnnd Donald Trump is coming to my university......just awesome. I'll be hiding in my apartment where its safe
  21. Still waiting dtydtjrsesdkfligui. Also my mentor/boss asked for my resume but didn't say what it was for....
  22. Yeah my boyfriend graduated at 29! My department had a lot of mid twenties students so I never thought too much of it. We have many years ahead of us to work, we also have savings so we aren't scrambling for money. I'm just happy to explore a new area. I don't really have emotional ties to places so I'm looking forward to moving on.
  23. Thanks for the assist! It pretty much feels like that old MTV show NEXT. I just hope they will want to go on a second date. Or at least let me get off the bus!
  24. I need to borrow Mr.Karb's smallest violin, waiting is always the worst for me. I can't plan for things in these conditions!
  25. That's his motto as well! He graduated with a 4.0 with a BS in geology. He was able to support himself through grants/scholarships along with the odd job every now and then. He took longer so he could live comfortably. Besides I think as a society we are to focused on rushing everything so we can get to the "next stage on time".
