I mean I don't see any issues that would definitely prevent you but unfortunately I don't have a crystal ball! Your chance is just as good as anyone else. Good luck!

Reaching out to Professor about Summer Research
Need Coffee in an IV replied to anxietygirl's topic in Officially Grads
Don't worry about being too forward! They should be happy that you are excited, I mean my potential PI said she would photograph apartment listings and tell me what she thinks since I'm moving from states away. Pink Fuzzy Bunny is right, the worst they can say is no! -
Well my timeline will be different since I'm not an international student but my boyfriend and I are planning on arriving in June. My school starts in August, I think? Still waiting for official details but we like to take our time.

Btw I'm not sure how useful my advice would be, but I would like to help. Have you thought about leaving with a masters and reapply to a PhD program later? This way you could take time to get your depression really under control? I know that may not be a good solution since you are on a visa. My boyfriend has depression and he realized grad school wasn't for him. You shouldn't put yourself through mental anguish. There's no shame in mental illness, quitting something that is causing you emotional distress, or just examining all your options. We don't shame cancer patients, so please don't be hard on yourself! Maybe ask if you could take a leave of absence and come back refresh? Don't be afraid to talk more about it!

Balancing grad school and hobbies
Need Coffee in an IV replied to Citizen of Night Vale's topic in Officially Grads
I'm not a wise grad student yet but I also thought about this! Tbh I usually plan things out if advance. This way I get stuff done on time and have a set time for my hobbies. I know that if I don't take the time to relax, I'll get stressed out and actually be less productive! Not a runner though, I do yoga at times, walking, and reading are my main hobbies. Plus is binge watching hgtv count as a hobby? -
Group work is will forever be the bane of my existence since my field is nothing but group work! But yeah I'm sorry! I have a wiring project that's group work and I've been the one in charge of getting everyone to do work so it can actually get done! Sometimes I wish I didn't pull off being bossy so well

Oh I know that the desk isn't super important but I kinda want to pretend so I don't feel as guilty for spending a bit on it . I'll most likely get a comfy compter gaming chair. @Neist I think that color is awesome but I love very bright bold colors.

I officially accepted Texas Tech offer! I'm so happy and excited. And it's super nice out today, too bad I have to study for hydro blah. @jlt646 my friends say it doesn't look like a mullet so that's good, enough though it feels like it! My exercise routine is yoga every now and then, plus walking. I'm super un-athletic haha

It was growing up but now I know what works for my hair so its pretty relaxing. I find doing my hair/makeup is pampering and I can only think about myself. Those 30 mins are definitely worth getting up a bit earlier. That effortless look was something I've always wanted to try but I'm as effortless as wily coyote haha

I wish I could be laid back, but then I freak out when I don't have at least an idea of what I'm doing/where I'm going. I think I'm very protective of my hair because it use to be an afro. I've finally tamed it! I have short hair and it grows fast so I get it cut every 6 weeks. If you have frizz, I highly suggest a diffuser and shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie or bumble & bumble styling cream.

Sounds super pretty! tbh I have no idea what my natural hair color is, I've been dying it on/off since I was 13. Might be brown with a hint of auburn? That's the color it becomes after a dye wears off! I will have to say finding a hair stylist who knows how to cut/style curly hair is takes forever. I'm already looking for one in Lubbock.

@Fallen Thanks for the suggestion! I may play around with that idea. @Neist I know what you mean, I've been looking for awhile now. We are most likely going to use craigslist for a lot of our furniture. I hate things that are very ornate which seems to be a common theme for desks or they look like cheap metal ones. Maybe a compromise will be try to find colors in other ways. I'm thinking of setups like this.
