i waited to tell my parents about Texas Tech until I knew more about funding. I also put a gag order on my dad, he likes to share on facebook. I know he's proud but attention overwhelms me at times. Everyone else though I told since everyone I know has either gone through this process or they would like to know. No major share on facebook. I kinda avoid that since I have a couple people in mind that I don't want them to know what I'm doing. But I understand the stalling, its a major thing to process!

@Euler I completely agree! I haven't visited Texas Tech but their warm correspondence has blown me over and seal the deal for me.I love the area around here. Low cost of living, decent things to do, nice parks/hiking trails. Plus the weather is pretty mild. I haven't been to Virginia Tech's campus though, way too big. I went to one conference building for a GSA meeting, that's it

Yeah I kinda felt bad too. In other news, I had an interview for a job today. I scheduled the interview before I got the good news from Tech and I didn't see the point in cancelling. I was hoping that they could do it as a summer position. That was a no go, but I'm happy I went through the interview. I've volunteered/intern at this museum in the past summers and wanted to leave on a good note.

I wasn't able to track them but I sent my transcripts to all my other schools at the same time and they were received. I guess that was me being naive on my part assuming that they must have got them ha. TBH, I'm going to Texas Tech. They have been wonderful and welcoming. They are also giving me funding. I just paid the fee for IUPUI so I might as well get a decision.

Hey Everyone! I know this is late and will most likely get very little traction but I'm hoping to start a discussion about museum science programs. Also hoping that this will encourage future topics. Gradcafe seems to be lacking in this aspect, but here's hoping people will come out of the woodwork! I'm a senior and I'm finishing my last semester as an undergrad. I applied to a total of 7 programs. Some were a bad fit (University of North Carolina Greensboro) had lukewarm response (UC Boulder), too expensive (University of Oregon) and some rejects were disappointing (University of Washington and University of Kansas). I'm still waiting on IUPUI but I will most likely (99%) attend Texas Tech. I was a nervous wreck for awhile but I'm happy it's over. Anyways I'm hoping to hear about what everyone's interests/areas they want to focus on. I would like to focus on community outreach through science museums and see how museums as a whole effect their community. Idea is rough but I'm hoping it's a good topic. I'm going to discuss my ideas with my POI next week. She seem excited so that's a good sign. Well enough about me guys, I would like to meet my future colleagues!

That's a mass reject email if I ever saw one, and trust me I've seen a lot haha

My boyfriend knows how you feel, he also felt worn out. It took him around 8-9 years to finish his undergrad. He switched majors, schools, and even states ha. He was also in the navy for a bit so he had school paid for and didn't start undergrad until he was 21. He's one of those people who's pretty content on any 9-5 job that pays ok, so we think it won't be hard for him to find a job when we move.

I guess it would come down to which one is the most affordable for me! Also I feel like making a pros and cons list can at least knock one out of the running. And if there are two left that are equal, I would flip a coin. But I wouldn't base my decision on the actual outcome but my reaction to the outcome. Am I happy or not? I usually find with me that I always have one decision preferred over the other without realizing it.

I know my boyfriend is trying to make sure I'm not taken advantage and he views a lot of things as scams ha. He had the reaction of yay!! which then turn to ask as many questions as possible so we know exactly the situation. He views me as full of sunshine and happiness which can be true ha. He also knows he can come across as an ass but we both know he means well. I value his opinion because he is moving with me so it made me really happy when he said Texas Tech was the perfect option.

Yeah this time of year is super annoying! I didn't find out a school didn't have my transcripts until I emailed them 2 days ago and their deadline was Jan 15th.....Look you have been waiting for almost 4 months now for a decision. I would send another email saying how you are looking forward to coming to this program for the fall semester and were curious on the status update on your application. If that makes them reject you, then I think you dodged a bullet. People even grad school prof/administration need to be held accountable and if your email makes them uncomfortable it should. They have been blowing you off.

I haven't felt the imposter syndrome yet and I don't think I will. Or maybe I used to feel it so much that now I'm oblivious to it now and have an extreme high tolerance

@Neist @hippyscientist Thanks so much for the congrats! I'm trying so hard not to run to Texas right now haha. Can I just graduate now and not take my physics exam?
-
Btw I'm super happy, Texas Tech has given me in state tuition and a fellowship! I may get even more funding, still waiting for details!
-
I mean what do you expect, its not like they are getting paid to notify us or anything . Btw that's my first emoji ever haha
-
I think I wouldn't be as annoyed as I am if they emailed me vs me emailing them because I've heard nothing. I'm pretty sure if I didn't email them, I would never had received a decision.

IUPUI just told me they never received my transcripts even though I sent them in Oct and every other school received them. I double checked with the registrar and was able to confirmed that 1) I sent them, 2) They were sent to the right address, and 3) It was before the deadline. Deadline was Jan 15th and they never told me that my application was incomplete/never saw it on their website. So I'm going to assume I'll be rejected even though they said they will still look at my application.....
-
AHHHHHH IUPUI just responded to my email saying they never got my transcript. Deadline was Jan 15th, you think they would have told me they didn't have it by now! All my other schools got my transcript and my university confirmed the address they sent it too. I'm annoyed at IUPUI, and I wish I could get my money back. I doubt I'll be accepted and I'm not even sure I want to go there anymore. The director already stood me up once when I was suppose to have a meeting/tour about the program......

I just emailed IUPUI, I mean their application deadline was Jan 15th, I would think they made some headway by now.

Congrats!!

Any time! It will eventually work out, one way or another! I can't really offer much advice since I don't really know anything about your field, but I'm happy to help alittle.
-
I really think you should take time off. You shouldn't be in a rush, grad school will always be there! And just because your advisor is saying go to grad school doesn't mean you should. Try working for a couple of years and then see what you really want. I'm a senior in undergrad so I get it.But you don't seem committed to either option.

Btw if you want any recommendations about the area, feel free to ask! I live around the area.
