  1. When is the deadline for schools to let you know if you have been accepted? I know for Fall applicants, April 15th is the day that schools are supposed to let you know one way or another. I don't know if I would email the school because they are probably already getting a lot of emails. I would hold off as long as you can so that you don't have to accept and then deny at the school.
  2. Everyone's advice is great! I would also suggest not dwelling on it too much if you are going to mention it...which even I'm hesitant about because I personally think that mentioning it may bring more light to it. But if you wanted to include a sentence or something that may make you feel better to sort of explain yourself....of course, directly followed by how you have learned/what you've gained since then. Good luck!
  3. I actually think it's pretty common to get in off the waitlists. It may be a little frustrating to have to wait until people who got accepted to send in their "no thanks" to the school, but I think it definitely happens. I know several friends who got in off the waitlist at schools.
  4. I could be wrong here but I think they mostly look at CSDCAS. I believe the transcripts you send to the university are only looked at by the graduate school if anyone. From what I've seen, applying through the graduate school is basically just a formality and what is really reviewed is your CSDCAS application.
  5. I believe University of Cincinnati has an online program for atypical student (you would likely follow that criteria because you have children and are a military wife). I also think Eastern Carolina has a program?? I may have just made that up. You can search ASHA's EdFind site and narrow it by online programs only.
  6. Hi there! I don't think that a 3.54 GPA is going to disqualify you from getting in to graduate school. However, you will need to try harder in other areas of your application than a student with a 4.0. Your GRE scores are good and with a great SOP and LORs, I think you will have a chance. Make sure you pay attention to the kinds of stats that schools are looking for. Obviously don't apply to a school that weighs heavily on GPAs. People who are out of field get into grad school all the time...you just have to make solid argument for why you want this and why this is the career for you. You could easily turn teaching EFL to Asian students to your benefit by emphasizing working with different cultures, etc. My point is that a lower GPA can definitely be balanced out, but you need to be strategic and work hard. Best of luck to you!
  7. Not sure if any of you are still involved on GradCafe, but I was wondering if you knew what percentage roughly gets GA/scholarships? The number on ASHA seems high (15 offered with funding or something like that) and I wanted to see if it was partial tuition or what. I'm from Ohio and trying to find east coast schools that aren't outrageously expensive.
  8. Hey! I'm also applying for next fall. What I've found is that if a school wants a CV/resume, they will state that in the "school materials" portion or whatever it's labeled. Otherwise, you just include your information in the achievements, activities, work, leadership portion.
  9. I am, yes! Nervous but excited to start applications. Such a big step! How about you, how are you feeling?
  10. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in sharing their personal statement/SOP with me so that I have an idea of where to start. Message me! Thanks!
  11. Does everyone always get the $20,500 regardless? And with the FAFSA, does it consider parent's income during grad school? I will be applying this fall for next year and I'll be 22 when I start, if that helps.
  12. @mcook64 In that $14k, does that include summer terms?
  13. I think it can go either way. Sometimes, GA positions pay for tuition but other times it just works in the same way as a part time job, which is kind of a bummer but better than nothing. At University of Cincinnati where I go to school, I know people who have both but they consider the one who only receives an hourly rate more of just a student worker.
  14. Does anyone know if most schools tell you when you're accepted if you got a GA position/assistantship or if they wait until you accept the spot? I've been calculating cost for potential grad schools I want to apply to and it's outrageous but if I got a GA position or something it may be affordable for certain schools. I'm just curious how many schools offer/when they offer. Anyone care to share their experience?
  15. To go off of what I said above, the program total is around $30,000 total I believe, which is SO CHEAP for SLP grad school.
  16. I'm not sure which part of the country you're looking at, but Worcester State University in MA is relatively cheap. I think someone on another forum noted that they do not charge out of state tuition, so the program turns out to be really cheap given the circumstances.
  17. Anyone have any wisdom on STARTING personal statements? I have no idea where to begin. Of course, I've done some research and viewed samples but I just don't know where to start. Help?
