Ok, just about to formally accept my offer from UW-Madison! This process has been something else, and I'm so glad it's over.

So I officially accepted my offer at Texas Christian University. For future rhet/comp ppl who are lurking or applying for their PhD next year, if you are interested in New Media studies, multimodal work, or food rhetorics I would highly recommend the program. I just visited last week and found the department to be very welcoming and the stipend is very competitive to the other offers I received.
For anyone waitlisted, I'm declining offers today at Miami University, Virginia Tech, Georgia State, and Florida State. Hope this helps someone out!

I just want to also agree that no, definitely do not go into debt for an MA. especially if funding is an option where you currently are. 

You picked the right day to ask, haha! I can happily (and now officially) say that I'll be heading to Carnegie Mellon this fall.

I'm SO nervous, @A blighted one! I have one coming up on Wednesday as well, and I have NO idea what to wear. I wasn't really worried about what I should wear until I was browsing the forums and saw something about business casual. I wasn't necessarily planning to go that dressy, but now I'm freaking out thinking that I need to.

Next thread idea: how to not go f*%king crazy while grading. I have 42 students this semester and am currently 1/3 done with grading their first papers... It feels like some mountain I can't climb because I'm wearing flip flops.

Lurker here. When the last list of MacArthur "Genius Grants" was announced, I found a proposal or statement written by one of the winners. Curious to read something that garnered such a prestigious and generous award, I began reading it and came across a glaring typo in the first sentence. Seeing that certainly eased my paranoia about my own SOPs. 

I emailed last week to ask about schedules and was told we’d be getting them by the end of this week. So, hopefully by the end of today or tomorrow!

I'm a little disheartened by some of the responses I've received here, especially because you don't know my situation at all. I'm not entirely sure I owe anyone an explanation. I've been reflecting on this over the past day, and this is so important. Only one of the programs I was accepted to for MAs did a visit for MA students, and I felt like I needed to show off and impress them. This might have been partly because I was insecure etc etc, but the people there also made me feel like I needed to do that as (In particular, one really awkward conversation with a POI stands out..) So, just another thing to think about. Someone in the pinned thread put it like this: this is a school's time to impress you. You've already impressed them with your application materials!
