  1. I would still go for School A's interview at that weekend but re-schedule for School B when you're invited.
  2. Probably will stop applying. This is my 4th round, and I think I"m tired of it. I think I'll still be a good researcher even without PhD. Master should be enough, hopefully. I applied to 2 schools first round, then 10 and 10, for 2nd and 3rd. Now I'm applying to 4 schools.
  3. Just ate fried chicken wings today! <3 Muuch love out there for fried chicken wings lovers
  4. I am feeling the same way!!! I am still holding out hope though.. Just a little bit. I was at my peak last week, now it's decreasing. Maybe it's for the best! Low hope = low disappointment!
  5. Wow, after seeing all these amazing curriculum, my hope of getting into MIT is tanking haha! I hope you guys get in!!! You guys are awesome! Good luck to all of us
  6. Also next time when you apply again (assuming you didn't get in this time, touchwood), you can mention in your SOP saying why you didnt pass the two classes. I'm sure they will see why. But you got back up and ready for more research!!
  7. I also wanna add, I understand how incredibly nerve-wrecking this is. And after all the rejections from the graduate school, I began to question my self-worth, and if I'm a real scientist. But don't give up. Even though it is easier said than done. Find the right people (friends/ family/ SO), they will support you through hard time.
  8. Hi there, I may not help much but I probably had the similar problem you did but back in 2012. I graduated Chemistry with a GPA of 2.88 (overall transferred from Community college 3.12/ 4.0). It was not good, IMO. I didn't fail any, but I came close to it. My first question to you is, what will your GPA be after the 2 classes? (Let's say you got a C in both) I applied to grad school (I graduated in Dec 2012) but of course I was rejected. It took me a while to find a job (due to my International student status, not many companies want to invest in a Entry Level Chem Graduate International Student. I was lucky enough I found a job, associate scientist, and they helped me tremendously to grow as a person. Nothing bad bad will come if you don't get into grad school per se, I'd say, take a few years off school, get a job and see how you like it? You're still a scientist even though you're not a "PhD" IMO. If you really want to pursue grad school, go ahead, when you have gathered enough experience. My experience in my job helped me get to my current school. My current school gave me opportunities I may not get in industry and gave me strength and confidence to apply to top schools. I'd say, go big or go home (that's just me lol) I have applied to PhD Program for 4 years (2013, 2016, 2017 and now 2019) I really want to get a PhD that's why I"m so determined to get one. At some point, I felt like giving up as well. But I have people around me, encouraging me. My friends, my family, my then boyfriend, now husband. IF that is what you want to be, age does not matter. Take your time to get to know yourself first I'd say. I hope this help. Anyway, if you need more help, you can always msg me.
  9. Wrote the wrong school name in SOP but still got in... I realized after a semester in the school!
  10. I definitely understand how you feel. It was hard for me the past 3 times I applied for graduate school. I was an international student back in 2015 and I had shitty GPA and couldnt' get into any school until Brown offered me a Master program in 2017 (meaning I have to pay for it) I took this chance to brush up my GPA and get into research I really want. Hopefully this 4th round will be better. I hope you get into a school that you applied to! In my 4 years of experience in industry, I did't even get any posters/ presentations to show! So I think you're in a good shape overall! Don't feel dejected because of your age! I am also 30 now and still applying! Don't give up! However if you dont' see the point of pursuing PhD, I think it's better not. Never listen to what others say, listen to yourself. You'll thank yourself in the future!
  11. Wow! Very good to know everything has been sorted out!! I'm happy for you and glad to hear that! It makes me nervous when the email / phone call/ msg just get lost like that! It is great you actually went there physically to give her a gentle nudge! Good for you!
  12. This is a response for the post below, couldn't delete this post unfortunately.
  13. I graduated undergraduate in Dec 2012. Since 2012 I have applied for PhD for Fall 2013, Fall 2015, Fall 2016 and Fall 2019. I'm determined lol. I was international student until recently, I got married Spring 2017. When I didn't get into a doctoral program my first round, I decided to work as an associate research scientist for four years until I was accepted in Brown University for my Master in Fall 2017. During the year between 2013-2017, I was able to grow as a person / woman, got to meet my current husband. My parents were kinda supporting me to go to school, but they also wanted me to get a boyfriend (and husband eventually). I met my husband in 2014, we got married in 2017. He is supporting me now for my masters, he is also quite supportive with me going to get my PhD because it has been my dream to be a Dr. So I am glad I married him, he loves me for who I am, and what I'll be.
  14. doctormelody I'm so so sorry you're experiencing this! This is definitely nerve-wrecking! I am also applying to Columbia and Boston University! How are the applications going other than the recommendation letter? I have not submitted my applications for Columbia yet, I'm still waitin for a recommendation to come in. I do have 3 though, so it's enough for submission. Do you think I can submit the application and the letter come later?
  15. Worries : I have applied for Doctoral Degree since 2015. I got into Brown for a Master degree in 2017. Reapplying again for 2019 hopefully I can get into a doctoral program. I was an international student, and my undergrad GPA was not good so I didn't get in any school for Dr program until Brown offered me a Master program which I accepted. Before that, I worked in a cancer research institute for 4 years instead of focusing on what I really wanted to research, so it may hurt my chances of getting into research group I want. ( I want some research to deal with bones.) I took the chance for my master's degree to work with bones as well but 2 year degree not much can be achieved. I am currently applying to MIT and Columbia and this nerve wrecking. Excitement : I just met up with a professor I want to work with in MIT and I am very grateful for the people who showed me around and the professor for giving his 15 min of time to talk to me. I have hopes but I'm trying to not get it too high because I dont want to deal with bad disappointments later! I also emailed Professor in Columbia and he said he is also lookin forward to my application because my skill set is more of a biological side instead of engineering side. So cross finger, getting into both would mean alot to me!
  16. Thank you, I believe I can get strong LORs and work on my SOP. I have contacted the DEAN of biotechnology in my school and they mentioned a first author of a publication would definitely help with my application. I do have one that's been submitted but I'll have to confirm with my PI again. My community college score was 3.5GPA before going to my undergrad university (but that one doesn't count I guess..) My advisor didn't really help me at that time, so I really struggled.

Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter:Applying to Where:MIT - Biological Engineering Brown - Biotech I would like to look for more schools around Boston / Rhode Island area. I am very interested in development/ application of biomaterials into bones (This is what my masters' thesis is about) I am in Brown right now for my school, so I hope I can get into Brown Biotech PHD program. But do you think it's possible? I do not really want to take GRE again :/ I hated the testing. I almost always do better during my practice but then my nerves just got on me when I did the test. (I have done it 3 times )

  19. did you decline offer to Cornell? Many of us are still waitin for decisions from Cornell and haven't heard from them.. Congratz!
  20. I am waiting on Cornell and Columbia (Fu Foundation) I dont think I have much hope on Columbia and I am wishing I can get into Cornell, I can't wait...!
  21. if they didn't tell you the reason why you're not accepted you still have a chance. i've got a few reasons why they didn't accept me XD anyway I asked about the status of an international student because my manager where I am working now was also an international student when she applied for PhD in the states. She obtained a masters degree in the states and you would think she can get in pretty much anyway but she couldn't. She told me she applied to many places and got accepted to 3 universities. She told me one of the profs told her that international applicants apparently goes to a different decision point and many international students we see are the ones that professor hand-picked and brought over with them when they moved.
  22. oh ;( sad, i will try to reach out to them.. i'd like to hear from them earlier if they decided not to accept me.. why do schools do that frustrating.. i heard back about 8 days ago good luck!! maybe you're still in the list. Question : Does being an international student affect the decisions they make to accept the student? I am an international but I got my BS here in the states.
  23. Does anyone know if UNC is still sending out acceptances or are they done? I applied to UNC/ Cornell/ Davis/ Columbia, got rejection from Davis and waitin for the other 3... thanks and congratz to those who got accepted!
