Too add on: This is still in the works, but one way to project how much the WL might move is to know a) how many initial offers a school makes; b) how many WL offers they make; and C) Look at their offered admission vs yield vs enrollment statistics. I'm adding these elements to the spreadsheet right now under "statistics" (Though some things will need to wait until Summer when I have time to FOIA anything departments aren't willing to share. Though if folks have friends at certain institutions they may already be able to access the info ??‍♂️).

The survey has now been workshopped into a more formal report though there are a number of limitations due to sampling size problems. That said, here's what we have. More on Part 2 soon!

Over the past few years I've noticed a number of trends when it comes to departmental websites being less than accessible or clear about what materials they need from applicants and how certain processes work (such as letters of recommendation-i.e., do they go out before or after you submit the application). As an extension of the Philosophy Admissions Spreadsheet (bit.ly/PhilAdm), I am gathering information both on the barriers folks have encountered while applying in recent years and trying to finally get a solid set of numbers concerning how many schools folks are applying to. That's where you and other recent applicants come in!

In order to make asks and create change we are going to need tangible numbers that the APA and departments can take seriously. For better or worse, a survey of this sort might be one of the faster ways to gather this information or, minimally, set the stage for a more formal investigation through the Graduate Student APA council to workshop changes to the system and remove/reduce the barriers for future applicants.

But they still want the spreadsheet to be up to date so folks stay informed and have been kind enough to drop me a few lines.

As you said, the vast majority of folks won't be jerks and will decline as soon as they can. For the folks that are jerks, it's not as if pressuring them will likely make them decline from places any quicker ??‍♂️

Looks like they misreported with the PhD designation--it's for the MA program (and they have 4 folks currently accepted based on the stats I tracked from FB?) ??‍♂️

Waitlisted at UWMilwaukee MA program. This is my only semi-positive response I've gotten this cycle so if anyone accepted is not interested in the program and is planning to decline please do so as soon as possible, it would be greatly appreciated! 

@PHILOKEV @MtnDuck Oh my god that was me. I just realized I put waitlisted at PhD instead of MA ?? I'm so sorry! I don't know how to fix the results page entry. I'm assuming I can't. Well, I guess the entry will remain as my being waitlisted at an imaginary program that does not exist...
