PsychBoy got a reaction from Adelaide9216 in Vanier CGS (2017-2018)
you can decline to re-apply for Vanier (but do you really want to do that?)
defer...I don't know...

It was a mistake, all. Doctoral results are still a mystery...

FYI, SSHRC will tweet out when they post the letters, so you'll have some advanced warning!

I don't see anything else I should be clicking on the researchnet site - but I am asking my school's awards department and verify that this the ONLY thing we need to do. Will keep you posted if they say otherwise

Ahh... I guess it is too early to get that, since we technically have until April 20th to accept/decline the offer. However, the PDF outlines when you chose to have your award to commence

You don't get one, underneath the letter of acceptance, etc (or on the previous page) there is another link that you need to press and fill your institution info and accept!
Then, you will see the PDF that says "OFFER OF AN AWARD / OFFRE DE BOURSE"

No. They are completely separate processes.
I know someone who won a Vanier a few years ago (through the SSHRC stream) but she was not even forwarded to the national competition for the SSHRC doctoral fellowship by her university in the same year.

Was getting reno-victed when I made my application, so my options were pretty limited. I wasn't even sure where I would be living the next month when I submitted my application. I should probably make friends with people that have fixed addresses, haha.

This is going to be a long month everyone! Best of luck. Will update once I get my letter in the mail.Hopefully they don't come as late as last year. But I vaguely remember that SSHRC tweets out when they send the letters... so that should give us some idea.

I appreciate the optimism! And congrats on your Vanier.
Apparently 5% decline throughout the agencies. SSHRC Vanier does seem to have a higher rate of decline: http://www.cihr.gc.ca/e/48761.html
I hate being so close because it's like I can't get closure. It's still that state of hope, ugh. Does anyone know of people who got the Vanier and they were waitlisted?

No luck for me. A bit disappointed since I thought my leadership score would be the highest given some of mt past experiences (designing policy for a country, organizing national conferences, president of student club, etc) but I only got a 4.6! And similarly, didn’t expect to get a 6 on research potential but it was my highest score ... ah well. Here’s hoping for SSHRC!

Congrats to those who won!
My friend got 47/55 from SSHRC. I ranked 58. My lowest score was academic excellence. I suspect it's because I never won OGS or SSHRC in MA, because I have straight A's with some A+'s! And lack of publications. My highest score was research potential and then leadership.
What's the likelihood of getting off the waiting list? I doubt people will reject Vanier unless they switch schools, accept Trudeau, or go abroad... does anyone know? It just sucks to be so close.
I can't apply next year either. I spoke to the people at my school and I guess it must be a school rule or departmental rule, but I can't apply because it's for first year PhDs here. So I guess my struggle ends here unless three people reject SSHRC Vanier.

I've been told by friends of mine that after the top 80 or so, they essentially stop rank-ordering them and just randomize their ranks in a sense. It makes sense because it's kind of a waste of time to spend time ranking applications that aren't close to being awarded. I totally agree that 56th place sounds like a horror movie LOL.

Maybe while waiting we can get ready for the big day?
How about we post the following when results are released:
- awarded/rejected
- agency
- breakdown of scores in each category
- overall ranking
(I really need some distraction lol)

I feel this is a test of concentration - can I set aside this anxiety over the Vanier result and be productive? This is my goal for today!
