  1. Yeah, seems strange to me too. Looking back at old threads it seems there's always annoyance and impatience with their process, you'd think they would've found a new process by now- one that makes decisions faster, not slower. I'm going to DC this weekend and since I consider georgetown a super super longshot, I'm not visiting the campus, but it'd be nice to visit the other school with a commitment to attend.
  2. I'm 20, turning 21 in November & starting a master's program in August- generally I got through college on @MinaminoTeku's first point & the fact people don't know, but that got harder when everybody turned 21 and I had to explain why I couldn't go out. I drink but I don't have a fake ID, I feel like I'll be outed pretty quickly. But @kit2138, you're not alone.
  3. It just ended but it was one of the virtual events listed on the fb page & emailed out yesterday! I think they're doing the same one again in a few weeks.
  4. @the99 there was an online chat today (actually still going on) and they said if you received merit aid, it was in the original acceptance letter- but very few students receive aid, unfortunately. Congrats on your acceptance!
  5. Same! I'm applying straight from undergrad so it's a super long shot but I don't want to accept an offer until I know for sure.
  6. Well, from the SSP thread it looks like they were told first week of April, but at least some decisions went out today...
  7. Damn, last week of March?? I was hoping this Friday since they were released last year on the 18th...
  8. I think I'm a bit disillusioned when it comes to loans- so many people owe so much that student loans have started to seem inevitable, not like a car payment or mortgage. I'll be looking at $100k in money I don't have, though fortunately my parents may be able to help me out (mostly by loaning me their own money which I can repay them without interest/fees) and even though $100,000 is a whole lot of money, I'm leaving undergrad debt free and I'm hoping to work in the private sector at least until the end of the trump administration (and then take that pay cut to work in government). So, I'm not really in a position to say what's worth it for you, but in my opinion if you make the most out of your two years, the added value in the job market should make it worth the money in the long term. But I'm a fresh college grad with no spouse, kids, any other financial obligations, so savings aren't as important to me as they probably are for others.
  9. I know in past years they've sent decisions over the course of several days/weeks! Good luck!
  10. my decision was posted! In with 4 credits of tuition remission per year, total of just over $13,000. Hard decisions lie ahead- that's about $20,000 more than LSE but it's in DC and a little more specific to my career goals.
  11. I haven't gotten an email yet but my decision was posted, not sure if they all have been!
  12. Blog says they'll be out by 3 pm EST! I love how transparent they are about the process, I've been refreshing my AU page for a week now and still have no clue when they'll be out.
  13. I'm desperately hoping for today, I called on Wednesday and they just said "within the next few weeks at the very very latest." It seems like in past years they rolled out decisions over several weeks so I'm thinking the first batch of decisions will be tonight.
  14. Assuming no decisions today? It looks like last year they started sending them the first Friday of March, so I was hopeful but nothing yet.
  15. Thanks! Where are you gonna end up? I just got acceptances to LSE & KCL but I'm waiting until March 15th for a few other schools anyway so I'm gonna stick it out.
  16. I've submitted applications to LSE, King's College London (both for conflict studies), and Tufts Fletcher (MALD, applied EN), and I'll be submitting apps for American SIS (US Foreign Policy & National Security) & Georgetown SFS (MSFS) in January. I just found out last week I was deferred until regular decision for Fletcher, and got a conditional offer to LSE this morning! I'm applying straight out of undergrad with just under a 3.6 from NYU (political science), 166V/164Q/5AWA. Experience is limited to one relevant internship, but I have other extra-curriculars/work experience in undergrad as well. I also have somewhat extensive international experience, not working but growing up/study abroad. I know some of these schools are a stretch (lookin at Georgetown) but if I didn't take chances I probably wouldn't have bothered to apply for LSE either. Since the department is so renowned in the field I think KCL would be my top choice- both UK schools are also significantly cheaper assuming no funding.
  17. Yeah, UCL is definitely a more well-known university internationally, while KCL is better for the War Studies department, but the University as a whole isn't so prestigious outside of the UK. I was going to apply to KCL, LSE, UCL, St Andrews, and a few schools in the US but one of my references said he would only do 5 schools (his personal belief is that you shouldn't be applying to more than 5...) so I cut out UCL & St. Andrews to include 3 US schools- but now I'm just wishing I had a decision from anywhere haha
  18. I can't really answer your question, it sounds like you already know UCL is below KCL for security/war studies, and LSE, though UCL is certainly a recognizable university. I'm just here because I also applied for KCL War Studies- when did you apply? I submitted my application November 1st, second reference submitted November 11th, they sent me a message that my transcript was unofficial two weeks ago so I submitted the official one, and a little over a week ago I sent a message to confirm the second transcript was good- but they haven't responded. It's been over 6 weeks at this point, I was really hoping they'd give me a decision before Christmas. Same question for LSE, I submitted my app there end of October, I thought they didn't give decisions until January?
  19. Thanks! I got deferred to spring for Fletcher early notification, and I know their average age is higher and expectation of work experience is more strict. AU's program is more what I'm looking for anyway, I think.
  20. I'm applying to SIS too- US Foreign Policy & National Security. AU does their apps weird- you submit the application (the form part) and everything else is a supplementary document- including the personal statement. Are you applying out of undergrad? I'm a little worried about lack of work experience.
  21. Same here! The wait is horrible but I'm applying straight from undergrad so I'm just glad I didn't get flat out rejected. Are you two planning on adding to your application? I'm graduating next week so I might get a short-term job to add, I was also thinking about trying to enroll in a quant class since I didn't have anything beyond basic "Quantitative Methods" (no econ at all) on my transcript. Also obviously sending my final grades but I'm not sure if they'll actually be better lol
  22. Program: International Affairs, focus on Conflict or US Foreign Policy Interests: international security & conflict Schools Applying To: Georgetown SFS (I had a friend that got into Harvard for undergrad with the same stats as me and I use that as motivation to apply for things even if I know I won't get in...); American SIS; Tufts Fletcher; King's College London Dept. of War Studies; LSE; St. Andrew's Undergrad Institution: NYU Undergraduate GPA: 3.57, I think a tiny bit higher in the major Undergraduate Major: Political science GRE: 166V, 162Q, and 5.0W Work Experience: basically none, straight from UG. definitely the weakest part of my app/why I'm afraid I'm not getting in anywhere. I had an unrelated internship (events) in a different major freshman year, I've been a Resident Assistant for 2 years, and I'm interning this October - December at an NGO that works with the UN Languages: intermediate italian LORs: One of my academic references is pretty good, small class, good term research paper, pretty well known professor. Other academic reference isn't great- the professor liked me but it was a big class based entirely on in-class exams- I asked him to write because it was the class that helped me decide to go into FP. Professional references (for schools that require them) are either my supervisor in my RA position or for my internship. Other Things: I'm a military brat, so lots of international experience + semester abroad in London. Hoping my SOP/LOR/GRE scores help make up for no work experience, if anyone has recommendations... Any thoughts to share are welcome!
