I know St. Ambrose (in Iowa) loves people who have experience! They don't have spring admissions though!

I've been feeling imposter syndrome ever since I got accepted at my top choice. I keep feeling like I don't belong at such a great program and institution, and that when I start I won't know what to do!! But this was really reassuring, Thank you so much for this!!

I think I'll end up living with someone also, but I don't really want them to be in my cohort either! It's just cheaper to have at least one other roommate. I'm hoping Craigslist will have some other grad programs looking for roommates.

Love this thread! Such awesome advice as I am weighing whether to have a roommate or not and whether in the same program or not!

    I'm in a similar position @SLPsingballs agh :/
Only thing is I love Milwaukee and accepted my offer there, but just got accepted from Central Michigan University with an offer of a GA position and in-state tuition. I'm so torn and don't honestly know what to do... and CMU needs an answer by April 21st (but I just emailed asking for a deadline so fingers crossed on that).

Callen got a reaction from plume in What schools has everyone decided to go to and why did you choose them?
I just officially accepted my offer to UW-Milwaukee's program
Reasons? First, it is the only place I've fully been accepted to. I'm on some waitlists, but yeah. Second, I just visited and their program seems really nice! They have a professor there who is interested in Voice Disorders and has been researching Transgender Voices, which I would love to be a part of. I also found that they have some electives in Adult Neurogenic Disorders (!!!), which is one of the things I'm most interested in! I really would like to work with TBIs, etc., so that's right up my alley
Cons to the school: price! I'll be in debt forever. lol. (I laugh, but it's really not that funny)

I know that CSUSM is more educationally tracked and SDSU is a good mix of both.
I know CSUSM GPA is a huge factor to get you through the door. They don't look at GRE scores or letters of recommendation.

You could try Fresno for spring admissions but I don't know if they "value" older students. I can agree with @Callen and say St. Ambrose really values experience and wants to get to know you as a whole rather than just numbers.

So many INFJs!! I know ENFJ is also pretty rare at I think around 2.5% or something. Rare is cool ahahah.
I always find meyers briggs personality types interesting because they do seem to really align with each person I know!

I think the question here is why made you guys into an: INFJs, ENFJ and  INFP (or J) respectively?
Was it mostly nature or nurture?
Maybe I'm going to deep down the rabbit hole here lol

My mother had stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma. It was so aggressive that it spread tumors to her knee, lungs, and brain. After finding out she had cancer she only lived for 4 months. During those months my father and I took care of her. Due to the tumors in her brain she lost the ability to speak to us, eat, and comprehend information. She didn't even get the chance to say goodbye... It was a devastating experience. Even though this broke my heart, it opened a new chapter in my life. I made it my goal to become a speech path in hoping I can help individuals like my mother be able to communicate. I want to work with both adults and children (my main goal is to work with cancer patients) so I can give them a means of communication.

I love this explanation! I'm an ENFJ and I feel like that also plays a role in why I chose this field. I didn't even think about it

Thanks for the feedback guys and gals
I really should have added the caring of siblings and other relatives to the pol. Doing that on a regular basis obviously has a powerful effect on your personality.
I think that it made you more sensitive to the suffering of others.

I think it definitely contributed to your choice. Both of my parents are also medical professionals. I'm pretty sure that growing up in that kind of environment had something to do with my career choice.

No, I did not have to care for a parent growing up. Like Callen, my parents are in the medical field and I have always been drawn to it. I do have a disabled sister who required care growing up, and I have wondered if this had anything to do with my drive to pursue a helping profession.

    Interesting question!!
I didn't grow up taking care of a parent. I'm wondering if my parents history in the medical field led me to combine my interests in science and language? My parents are both in the medical field in some way, so I've grown up around it.

Now that you say that, I am realizing I wasn't even counting the classes I would be taking this summer....! I just keep reminding myself that in two years I will be an SLP!

Emerson is about $30,000 per year. And Boston living expenses... eek. Thankfully, I will be living with my partner, so I will be able to split rent. It's looking like we will spend anywhere from $500-$700 each per month living in an itty bitty place and possibly having roommates. Still not 100% on this decision... if I am admitted to Redlands I could move in with my parents for the two years and save a lot of money. I am jealous of the people reporting tuition under $10,000! If only...

Just out of curiosity, as it stands right now, what will each of you have to pay in tuition and what is the cost of living at each school you're seriously considering attending?
