Can I comment in this thread if I'll be 30 by fall 2018? I identify with so many of these issues that you have brought up. Giving up a good paying job to make 1/4 as much... Postponing kids (or not having them)... This feels like my first real life decision that will change my future, and it's rough. (Still sitting here without any acceptances or rejections)

I hung my keys on the outside doorknob and locked the door. The delivery driver just pointed it out to me. I'm done being a person today. -
I tried arguing (with someone in another thread) that the GRE has a role in gate keeping. It gives the committee a way to narrow the pool, which is bad news for someone with lower scores. I'm a first generation college student who studies language preferences and the lexical bar. I tried to address it in my SOP, but who knows if a reviewer even got that far.

I sent an email to a student about a missing assignment via Blackboard and then got excited when I had a new email. smh. It was just a copy of the email... I'M DONE WITH EMAIL! -
The Waiting Game: Lightning Round Edition In my mind, you get props for being able to wait two days without contact! I have no idea how long I'd be able to hold out. I don't see an issue with a nicely worded inquiry to the department.

I keep getting listserv emails every few hours, and I have minor heart palpitations every time I see the outlook push notification on my phone. They are all from the university that I work for too, so they say from Chancellor bladablah, Academic Senate Office, etc. Ahhh! -
I think app fees could definitely be more reasonable though. My alma mater only charges $35.

It would be complete anarchy without fees though. Every department would be inundated with even more applications. Think about that time sink. Talking about anarchy. I propose a "trial by combat" option to replace the GRE.

Can we talk about the GRE please? ETS makes so much money off of us. They know that most of us are applying to more than four schools (sometimes 10, 14, 17...). $27 to send scores electronically is absolute garbage.

At this point, I'd be happy with a rejection notification. I just want something.

@renea: Good luck ! My husband and I were planning on applying together, but he had a change of heart about pursuing a PhD. This process is stressful enough without having to worry for two!

Congrats on the acceptances @midwest-ford! Syracuse's Composition and Cultural Rhetoric program seems really special. They only accept like 3-4 too. Side note: The waiting is killing me! It has just been radio silence.

I really wanted to apply to a program in California, but none of them quite worked out. Honestly, I don't think I want to leave the ocean/weather/politics. Also, I looked at Kansas, but I'm still a bit frustrated that they accepted me off of the waitlist after April 15th (when I applied to MA programs a few years ago).

Congrats @Wabbajack!

Which schools @turtleducks?

@Wabbajack: I identify with you so much! I am also currently a Lecturer (UC San Diego) and I submitted all of my apps on October 31. I pushed all of this out of my mind until this week because the wait has already been so long.

So, I'm not saying that I only applied to Purdue because of Purdue OWL (there are some POIs that I would love to work with and they have ESL/WPA secondary interest options)... but wouldn't it be amazing to work for Purdue OWL???
