  1. Also received a rejection last night from Univ. of Washing. PhD in Epidemiology. Though I realized I may have made a big mistake b/c I can't recall if their department had tracks, and I would have applied to the ID EPI track but my application says General Track ? Anywho, 2/4 rejections. The other 2 are radio silent. ?
  2. On the same boat as y'all. I applied to 4. Got 1 rejection, and the other 3 are radio silent. I'll just keep manifesting that I get an acceptance or a last-minute interview invite lol ?
  3. I only know about JHU (PhD in Epi) as that is the only program I have heard back from so far. The administrator noted they received over '400' applications. As for timelines, I think most of us are going off of previous years and maybe adding in some lag time b/c of COVID + record number of applications? At least I am
  4. Nope, you should have gotten an e-mail from them saying your applications is complete, etc.. The same one that @ham1just shared
  5. Nope, I submitted it right up to the very end of the deadline (~10 PM on Dec 1st), so they tech reviewed it in less than 9 days? .... pretty reassuring I got a very 'holistic' review
  6. Hahah I'm just more irked that it's highly suspect that they are reviewing applications so holistically. I asked for some clarification from the department, and they claimed 2 faculty did review my application. Apparently, JHSPH Epi PhD received over 400+ applications this year. So best of luck to everyone else. Onto the next one
  7. Ummmm...anyone else apply to Hopkins PhD Epi. program? I just got an automated email saying a decision was posted to my portal (a rejection) -- but wondering if it's a fluke? This would have been the fastest turn around ever... lol Update: the admission office said yes that the decision was supposedly made yesterday. So that the portal is right...wow record rejection time lol woohoo!!
  8. So I can't say for certain -- but what my mentor told me who is a professor at a major university that some of y'all have applied to and sits on the doctoral admissions committee ... the longer ago your undergrad (or even grad) was, the less weight it will have negatively. So if you graduated over 5+ years ago, the professors won't hold some bad grades against you, because they understand that was some time ago... etc...
  9. Just wishing everyone the best of luck now that most of us have submitted our applications!! It's in fates hands ? Some last minute shuffling around, my final list of programs: Harvard - PHS - ID Epi John Hopkins - ID Epi Univ. of Washington - ID Epi (though I may have accidentally selected general track by mistake. need to correct that... whoops) UCLA - Epi UNC - Epi
  10. Hi everyone! Can't believe it's application time already. This is my third time applying, and hoping it's my last ? (previously applied for Fall 2016 and Fall 2017). Some quick stats: Undergrad GPA (BA: English and Pre-Med): 3.2 Grad GPA (MPH): 3.8 Work experience: ~7 years in clinical and public health research, with a lot of first-hand experience in designing and analyzing both small and large-scale clinical trials in both chronic and communicable diseases Related research experience: Zika Virus, HIV, and SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 Publications: 19 publications and counting, a few first-author or corresponding author Conference Abstracts/Pres: 7 in both major clinical and public health conferences in the US and Europe Other activities: Previously co-chaired scientific session for APHA and reviewed abstracts for several APHA conferences; participated in a CSTE/CDC work group LORs: Nailing them down, but 2 of them are previous professors. One who taught me most of my epi skills in grad school, and the other with whom I did research. Since it's been a few years now since I graduated from my MPH program (3+ years), thinking I will ask someone from work. Programs I'm eyeing: All PhDs in Infectious Disease Epidemiology or equivalent (i.e. Pop Health Science / ID) Hopkins, Harvard, WashU, U of Mich, UCLA, Columbia, NYU (Maybe) Hoping this time around my added years of work experience and publications will help. But what i have learned from the past is that it all comes down to sheer dumb luck, right time, right advisor, right place (not to get all hunger games) ?
  11. I have emailed them in February and March. Same response..... I emailed them again last week, no response yet. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
  12. Hahaha - Like I said, different field. More in the humanities, where a longer timeline is expected. Most PBH/Epi Phd programs seem to be aiming to get their doctoral students out by 4 years. I remember when talking to a few programs they said if you needed to, you could petition for a fifth year if you needed to collect more data, and they would fund the fifth year if the petition was accepted. Others said it could even be feasible to do it in 3 years, if you play your cards right. I know in the UK most of the PhD programs are 3 years.
  13. The only program i’m waiting on now is Rutgers. 6/7 rejections so far. But surprisingly not crazily bummed. A good friend of mine in another field, applied to PhD programs 3 times. The last cycle she got an 8-year full funding package at an Ivy League! It was her dream program. So I like to think that things work out for a reason, and if you fail the first and even second time (like me) you try again, if this is something you really want!
  14. Rejection. Le sigh, lol. I’m still waiting to hear back from Rutgers-Epi. But it looks like i’ll be reapplying next year. Third times the charm?
  15. Not really sure! I feel like if they were on the committee they would know the outcome of your application... :/ On another note, just got my decision for Columbia Epi track, for those who are waiting to hear back
  16. I’m actually a graduate of their MPH program I know there has been some faculty change (ie new director for the Doctoral program, etc..) So that may be why.
  17. So strange! As I said before, I applied last year and the rejections came in early Feb.
  18. There technically is one for Columbia, if you are reapplying... it would be the same portal they used to send the decisions from the prior year. NYU has no portal, it's an e-mail. Last year the rejections for NYU went out early February, so not sure what is going on this year... :/
