I feel for you. Similar boat. We can set up camp near by and have our own nonfiction program if you like? Good luck with whatever path you take next. I'm just glad they told us now instead of waiting til Monday. Mutual rejection beers anyone?

Iowa Nonfiction rejection email. At least I didn't have to hope all weekend. One rejection. Waiting on two others but only one of them really appeals. Would you go to one even if you weren't too excited by the place? Oh well, I worked on a new photo essay book today and getting that out within a few weeks. Good luck, friends, s

Great thread, thanks. I applied to three places, the costs of applying and the chance of funding limited me, but not yet heard from anyone. I like the support on here. Best of luck to you all. Nonfiction.
  4. It'd be nice if they all said, okay we send out notifications the end of February and then us hopefuls say thanks/ no thanks within two weeks for waitlisters.
  5. Well, luckily not many of the MFAs ask for interviews as I have tattoos on my hands. It works for a writer, hopefully!
  6. Well, want to hide in New Mexico in a cabin? I'm thinking of heading out to Oregon, I applied for a Ranger job there if the grad school option leaves me alone... Seriously, gonna rent it out! Anyone want to trade?
  7. Thanks again for the positive reminders. Be well and good luck!

Thank you for the sweet note! All the best to you!!!

  8. @DBear, big smiles. Big thanks. I quit my job in May to focus on writing and traveling. Then came the idea of grad school. If it doesn't happen this year, it's back to writing and traveling! I've been published, got stuff out there, but would love to find a community of other writers. One way or another, right? Take care, s
  9. @DBear, thanks, I'm giving myself a hard time right now. 25 years since the BA, a full life has given me stories aplenty, but academically I'm not looking good on paper. I've not heard back from anyone yet. Not knowing what is next is hard. I'd just like to know.

Time for this thread to start back up! What's the latest? Costs, areas, etc...
  11. Exactly how I feel! Couldn't sleep for shit last night. I'm not sure how to deal with myself for the next month. I applied to Iowa, Oregon State and Portland State. All three seem to send out notices in March. I need a holiday or something! I need to climb a mountain with no phone or internet...okay, so it's Sunday, we can get through the weekend okay? We can. We can.
  12. Good for you Sarah, I hope you get a chance to right that choice you made, and may the offers come pouring in!
  13. Yep, I have a list of back-ups! So, there is the order of ideal schools. Then I follow it up with the fact that I've applied for jobs for the Oregon State Parks in areas I love, seasonal work as a park ranger. Following that I've been offered a position as a camphost in Colorado near Telluride. I'm also constantly sending out freelance articles and proposals, working on a couple of photo-books, plugging my illustrations online, and then fixing up my home so I can rent it out whatever happens! In some ways, it's too many options, my brain is fried.
  14. @AuntieGrandmaYou're an inspiration. I'm about to turn 50 and happy to have a chance if accepted. I love how you explained your situation. All the best.

Great advice, thanks. Depending on the results of course, if/ when I look for a place, I plan on flying out to check it out. I was in the area last summer and loved it. Philimath would be great, and I have a motorcycle for commuting. Can't wait to find out. Limbo is killing me! S
  16. I feel the same way. Left home at 18 and traveled Europe with no money, studied at London University for four years working in a bar, and then came to the US. No credit cards, no back up, just came...I like that I learnt at that age to take care of myself. Nowadays, I talk to friends here and it's all about how the kids want the parents to pay for the phone, car, school and not work. Although, I guess that's going to be the middle class kids right? if you're poor, you get a job and take it from there. A good friend of mine who wrote one of the references grew up in Denver with her mom, and when we met, she was 41, two kids, full time job and studying for a Phd. She got it too. She's a role model. I should tell her one day!
  17. Good points, thanks. I'll start looking at rentals in the various places and see what there is. I like the idea of chatting to current students. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that I'm accepted!
  18. I do. Again, I'm wanting to study for its own sake. I have a full life, busy, writing and traveling. The MFA would be a great experience but it's neither going to make nor break me. I'd recommend folks to live a little before trying to settle into academia, explore, work, lose something or someone, and then try again. There's a huge world out there, go play and then come back.
  19. Hi folks, I've applied to a few fully funded programs. Thinking positively, I'm looking into housing and moving before hearing back! How much do you think I can afford for housing? Do they give a good living stipend? Or do I still need loans? Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

HI, me too. This thread is pretty old but maybe we can wake it up again. I was in the area over summer, very friendly. I'll be looking for a 2 bed/ pet friendly home off campus. I'd like the quieter neighborhoods, Philomath had a great cafe, huge and open. Very nice. Lebanon I didn't get to see though. A short drive or bike ride would be ideal but it seemed like a very small town to get across. I've looked on Realtor.com as they have listings for rentals in the area so I'm starting to check out places online. Good luck for all of you (us?) moving there. S
  21. So true. I think I'll take the dogs for a walk, again. It's pretty addictive to keep checking here, the websites snd the results page.

    Fall 2017 MFA

Yep me too. I'm not sure if anyone has heard from nonfiction apps yet. Good luck for all of us going that route. I only applied to three, money and recommendations limited me. Have you any idea when we might hear? I'm thinking the end of the month.
  23. Thanks, I just looked over there too. Kinda quiet! It's just a waiting game. Congratulations to all who have been accepted! ?

Anyone know about the program in Corvallis? I'm waiting to hear...
  25. Afternoon gang! Yep, I'm constantly checking the results survey page. Has anyone heard back from Iowa or Oregon yet? English MFA for me hopefully. I think they don't decide until end of Feb or March, sheesh. Still, I can't help but look at who's heard back. This is crazy making...I look at the websites, all say submitted/ in review. It looks like the 3 colleges I applied to call with good news or email with bad... Sleam
