No, my advice is to cast a wide net and see what you can catch. You have to believe in yourself, no one else will. I think you have a profile that fits PhD/Master's programs, but the admission criteria is a different for both. I can see you easily getting into a top 10 or a top 25 master's program.

Don't worry too much about your grades now. What is done is done. The fact that you've gone to an excellent undergraduate school, as well as your GRE scores, will nullify a little bit of your weak GPA. In my experience, it is best to first do your own research on schools you want to go! I mainly applied to top 20 schools and did very well in Master's programs. I'm sure you would fair very well with good letters and SoP.

Thank you. Do you think it'd be possible to apply to other PhD programs next fall if I complete my masters? The program is one year long, and I fear I won't have time to do proper research/develop a quality relationship with letter writers.

I think it's great that you are voicing your options. I think the best bet for you is to go to UWM. It's an incredible school, with a fantastic program. Considering you have a lot of debt from your previous degree, I would agree with you that attending Duke would not be wise. Congratulations on being admitted to such great schools

Relax, you're fine. Just wait to hear what happens. Be selfish here: if the school that you want to go comes back and gives funding after you accept, you simply lose your deposit.

Not really...stronger programs don't fluctuate in rankings though (if you want to use rankings to pick Columbia) . I think if research lines up better at one school and there are multiple professors in that field, you should pick that school!
