Yikes. How does someone even get into all those schools? What kind of application do you have to have to just hit every top school?

I think the entire process is anxiety-inducing but I'm pretty sure we would have been getting no acceptances if it weren't for this community. The GC gave me a much more realistic picture of what the situation is like for English PhD applicants and advice on how to select schools. I'm sure there are plenty of applicants who don't need this support (or have incredible support already from their fancy school or professors) and will get in everywhere anyway, but I've found it invaluable. Of course there are stress-inducing moments here but there would be anyway, in my opinion.

I know, it's so frustrating. I would be going absolutely NUTS if husband got into Yale, yet this person takes their notes section and uses it to be rude to others rather than being excited or helpful. Ugh.

Another Yale acceptance via phone--would they really call at this time in the evening? Or maybe the poster just didn't put the result up right away?

Yeah, that's the most logical scenario! Where are you Yale admits, I want the deets! Also these slowly trickling Brown rejections are heightening my anxiety every time I see a new one. Ughhhhhhh.

Anything posted after 7pm ET shows up as the following day because I think the results board is on GMT. But yes I also hope that it means that the results will actually come tomorrow so I just relax tonight!

It says by phone so I think we can give it a few days! If we are to believe that it is real this time... Edit: Ok the latest says by email, now I am very curious as to what's going on over there.

Brown and BU have not been answering their phones so they might be closed. Or just really don't want to be bothered.

I know that @clinamen received an acceptance and we were waitlisted at BC. Our waitlist notification was just over a week ago. We posted to the survey but for some reason it doesn't show up for me when I search, so I'm not sure if something is broken with that this year.

Same, especially with the change of deadline and DGS. I'm debating having my husband call and ask about a timeline. I know it's probably a bit irritating for them, but they are one of our top choices and we'd like to figure things out sooner rather than later if we have to make plans to travel to Boston.

Do you have any idea when BU might notify?

And so day 4 of Brown limbo begins. Is it acceptable to try calling the grad coordinator today? We emailed the DGS on Friday to inquire about his status but haven’t heard anything. Or should we just sit tight and hope to hear back soon? I just want to know one way or another!

Sorry to pop in here, but can someone explain what the different research area names mean? Like early modern, modern, late modern... I know postmodern because that's what husband studies but I'm not sure what time periods the other 'areas' are?

My husband is also a fiction writer and had dreams of going onto an MFA, but his main goal was a PhD so we went for that. He'll continue his creative writing during his PhD anyway.
