If I could have just one of the fantastic suggestions already made here, it’d be this ^. Honestly, what pisses me off even more than the GRE, the money, the tortuous and contradictory requirements is that, even if you have a stellar application, it could still be summarily rejected because they already filled their quota of your speciality. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. This seems to be a bald attempt by schools at raising revenue without expending much effort. It should be posted right on the prospective-students page which specialities are needed and which are at capacity. Idk how they get away with this nonsense.

I completed ETS's post-GRE survey just so I could include a, I kid you not, five-paragraph screed on the iniquity of its prices. I know they probably don't read those, but it felt good to get off my chest. I wish I could find it somewhere; it was quite colorful, if I remember correctly. I half expect that "Educational Testing Service" is a dummy label for their true name: "Egregiously Torturing Students"

Yessssssss. I love everything about this ... well, ya know, except the whole rejection part. I'm counting Chicago out at this point, and I'm beginning to think that Duke is a bust, as well. Looking back on it, my Duke fit was tenuous to say the least, but still. Ohhhh well.
